I just saw Tyll mention this on FB.  Remarkably, it looks as if I'll be in the area with my family.  My wife will be working and I'll be hanging out with the kids, who probably will make me suffer if I try to take them to a trade show.  I'd love to get together for extracurricular activities though.  Anyone else planning to be there?

"Over the past couple of years, I've been to all of the wildly successful Southern California Head-Fi Meets organized by third_eye (Ethan) and warrenpchi (Warren).  Witnessing the growing scale and quality of their meets, the three of us met to explore the idea of turning next year's Spring SoCal Head-Fi Meet into a full-blown annual CanJam event.

I'm sure that none of the HC crew will be actively involved in putting on this event like the second through fifth national meets.  That said, if people want an excuse to congregate then I might make my way down there and drop into the CanJam event briefly.

I'll likely be there one way or another.  But yes, it is one in a long chain of events in California organized by a new, much more commercially-oriented group of Head-Fiers who have little to no knowledge of the days of yore.

We must teach them. 

We have been given this knowledge of how to put together a good fly-in-meet not for our own benefit, but for the benefit of future generations who would no doubt stray from the righteous path without our guidance.

 

I vote as many of us as possible go, and each adopt someone.

I don't see a problem with increasing vendor interest in the enthusiast community by involving more of them.

They're the ones with the money to make this sort of thing really possible.

I think Warren and Ethan are good people and would vouch for Warren and his motives personally.

 

We'll never recapture the glow of the genie in the bottle we once had. 

I'm grateful to have been a part of it.

 

Now, it'll have to be something new and this has the energy to be it.

 

Am I excited for it like the old days? No.

 

Do I think it's a good thing and am excited to see what may come of it? Yes.

As for this, I'll explore the possibility but next year is already full of work-required travel which is likely to severly limit my mobility in the "fun" sense.  That said, if I went I might attend part of the event but it would be the reason that I traveled.

That's all I was really saying.  It's never going to be what it once was, but at least we can enjoy the memories.  The new scene is fine, but there are a lot of agendas floating around out there.

The 2009 CanJam in LA was awesome - so glad that my son and I attended that one!  

The first five were pretty damn awesome! I'd be up for Death Valley camping - drinking and a fly by Can Jam

We're planning to drive to CA, and will definitely be packing our camping gear.  The kids love camping.  My wife is going to be at a conference in the San Bernardino area, so Death Valley should be easy enough for the boys and me to get to.  

If any of you show up then I will swing by on my way to rehab with Amanda Bynes.

 

 

There are big ass scorpions in Death Valley you know, bring your Kevlar lined sleeping bags if you plan on camping out there.
