December 11, 200817 yr comment_183582 I foresee a Dalek themed headphone... Looks like the rumor is being taken very seriously and a few others are getting confirmations. It seems to be real this time. Although, if the $1300 rumor is also true, I don't think they will be exterminating the HD650 soon. Report
December 11, 200817 yr comment_183594 I doubt that's the intention, if it's an electrostatic. I mean the HD800, not HE120. Report
December 12, 200817 yr comment_183711 The price sounds right based on what I've been hearing for a few years now (north of $1k MSRP). Report
December 12, 200817 yr comment_183719 Also, the supposed Sennheiser email has terrible grammar, which I doubt would happen if Sennheiser really sent it. If Sennheiser really did send the OP an e-mail and he didn't copy and paste it, well... then fail. It might have come from sennheiser of germany and the contact could have mediocre english skills. On the other hand, it seems to be the policy of all corperations to not divulge things until an official announcement. In the casino a member was asked to build a headphone stand for an unanounced headphone and he was sworn to secrecy about the new headphone. I doubt that they would just spill the beans willy nilly to some stranger asking a question. Report
December 12, 200817 yr comment_183732 the picture in the link buried in that thread look fake as hell not to mention ugly. http://www.oomp4.com/doc/478/680/1663.htm Report

December 12, 200817 yr comment_184015 Sennheiser USA - HD 680 - Product Details Guess we know what headphone they are upgrading around the same drivers this time. The really odd/interesting part is that is you use their search and type in HD800 or HD 800, it also gives you the HD 680 link... edit: duh, that's probably how you found the link in the first place... December 13, 200817 yr comment_184191 Too many NDAs in effect for something to NOT be coming. One is quite synonymous with electrostatic amps, and a cable maker, or two. Report
December 13, 200817 yr comment_184199 If it's just a new variant on the same old shit I'll be highly unimpressed. If it's something fresh and exotic I won't be able to afford it. Damn the world to hell and back!!! Report
December 13, 200817 yr comment_184203 I'm more then ready for a new Senn HE but I'm not optimistic though... Report
December 13, 200817 yr comment_184204 I'm happy with my 650s, so I don't really care... but if there were some new ones I'd have a listen. As others have mentioned, I can't imagine that something at the same price can reveal itself as much improved over the current model. I've never understood why people get quite so excited about the whole thing really - if I was unhappy with what I was using I would have bought something better by now Report
December 13, 200817 yr comment_184206 I find it interesting nonetheless. If they managed to produce headphones with the flat response of the HD600 or better, and with the lower distortion levels of the HD650, with improved impulse response and eventually more sensitive, they could be monster cans. Moreover, add to that package that they were closed or in the least provided more isolation than the current open design HD6xx, selling at some price point below $600, and I'd be scared if I were AKG, Ultrasone, Grado and the other competitors in the dynamic phones market. As others have mentioned, I can't imagine that something at the same price can reveal itself as much improved over the current model. I've never understood why people get quite so excited about the whole thing really - if I was unhappy with what I was using I would have bought something better by now The point exactly - there hasn't been anything better. And, it is only a matter of time that existing units, having years of heavy use, start to break down. I'd rather take a shot at something new if my hd600 drivers have already been replaced with something newer anyway - oh, and I am far less a fan of the hd650. If they fix the errors in th 650, and retain the good bits, outstanding. There is an eyewitness report in the thread today that there is something new coming - yet, due to another NDA, no hints other than HD800, not hd680. So, perhaps we are looking at a tech refresh / upgrade AND something new (planar)? Report
