April 5, 201115 yr The Joy Formidable, The Big Roar -- after seeing them twice live, finally getting around to listening to the album in its entirety. Quite possibly album of the year for me, although there are a couple of false notes on it (not literally, just...stuff I don't like as much). Rawk. My friend says grunge, but I don't hear it. Think Catherine Wheel at their most cacophonous. Three people should not be able to make so much noise. Bonus points for the occasional unorthodox time signature moment (the beginning of Whirring goes back and forth between 10/4 and 12/4, for example -- I love that, dropping a part of a bar just because it makes more sense the other way).

April 6, 201115 yr Oh Land (or it might be Ohland) -- really catchy synthpop with a groovy almost triphoppy beat. Pure pop for me.
