dsavitsk
I am selling off some surplus PCBs for various projects including for the L-2, Black Diamond, and the Apsara. In the case of the Apsara, there are also wood sides available, and the possibility of convincing me to build a pair -- just ask https://squareup.com/market/ecp-consolidated-productions-llc

nopants
I'm tempted by those L-2 boards, can we buy the torpedo output transformers by themselves directly from Edcor?
jvlgato
Those Apsara are beautiful amps!
n_maher
I'm tempted by those L-2 boards, can we buy the torpedo output transformers by themselves directly from Edcor? My 2¢, if you're going to build an L-2 you'd want to see what other options might be available rather than the garden variety Edcor.
dsavitsk
I'm tempted by those L-2 boards, can we buy the torpedo output transformers by themselves directly from Edcor? Yes. You might be able to convince them to use nickel cores on a pair. It might do good things. You could also use something else off board. I also might have a source for more bobbins. With them you could have more transformers made. The problem is that Jack does not stock the nickel, so you'd have to make a minimum buy which will run close to $1K. With sufficient interest, I could organize a run.
PretentiousFood
Try Cinemag, perhaps? The CM-13107 is a 10k:600/300/150/32, and the mixed stack was very affordable. The primary impedance is a bit high, but they might another standard design that would be a better match. I know they mix their stack differently than Jack does, so it might make sense to derate the power handling slightly.
dsavitsk
Some initial pics of the DSHA-2 (which needs to be renamed, but that's what it's called for now.)

Aura
Did I hear this? I think I did. It sounded really fucking nice with HD800's.... insanely neutral with a near-perfect midrange and absurd detail.
purk
I can't wait to audition the DSHA-2. My ECP-L2 is unbelievably great with the HD800.

TomB
I had to the chance to hear this (and its larger cousin) recently and Doug's work continues to impress. Yep - I guess you guys aren't too far apart, now. As always, Doug is pushing the boundaries of design thought with regard to headphone amplifiers. Very impressive.
HiWire
I'm looking forward to hearing the DSHA-2 when it's finished. Will the power supply be the same as in the previous amps?
dsavitsk
Getting there. The PS is bipolar with the transformer, rectifier, and initial filter in a separate box and the regulator internal. It uses a standard connector on the back allowing one to use an off the shelf switcher.
recstar24
I'm assuming the PSRR of the actual amp circuit is as high, if not higher, than the DSHA-1. If so, how much of an impact does the separate PS have, vs. an off the shelf switcher?
dsavitsk
Besides the PSRR, the amp has very good regulators. I think the difference is pretty small.
