Cubs legend Ron Santo dead at 70 - Daily Pitch: MLB News, Standings, Schedules & More - USATODAY.com If there's any other Cubs fans around, they'll probably care to know about this. Unfortunately I never knew Santo as a player, only as a commentator, but I grew up listening to him on WGN Radio and am very saddened by this.

So, I thought my Christmas shopping was done, but turns out my brother already owns the first thing I bought for him. I now want to get him a basic, all-inclusive, beginner brewing kit, and I've been looking around, mostly at Amazon, but I obviously have no clue what's decent or not. I'm fine with anything in $200 range or under. Any ideas?

Happy birthday, Zoe! (My 8 year old daughter, who is buying headphones with her b-day $$$). Most of you don't know her, but I don't care. She digs headphones and listens to FLAC on her Sansa Clip +, sometimes with PX100s. Man, I feel old. **BRENT**

Does anyone here have a fancy robot that goes around doing the boring dirty work, cleaning all the vacuum at home? I was thinking perhaps the Roomba could work... but I'm not sure if it's the Stax of vacuum cleaners, or if it's more like the Bose of floor sweeping robots. Do you have a robot floor sweeper at home? Is it good?

It's hard to find gifts for my dad--he's the kind of guy who kind of has everything. But today he was telling me how much he liked Superman comics when he was a kid. He wanted to know if the comic was still published. I know nothing about comics. Nothing. But I was thinking about putting together a little package of superman comics for him for Christmas. Not collector's item type stuff, just maybe a few cool things. It's the kind of thing he would never get for himself. Now I could use some advice about what to get and perhaps a suggestion where to get it. Again, I don't need any collectibles, just some comics and/or related stuff would make him very happy I think. …

I checked under the hood for dead animals, I looked under the seats and in the trunk, I don't see anything. also it doesn't smell bad under the hood, only inside the car and in the trunk. It smells like something dead and has grown stronger throughout the day. suggestions?

  18. As some or many of you may know, I decided to turn a visit to last month's Rocky Mountain Audio Fest in Denver into a week-plus epic road trip through the southwest. While I certainly couldn't visit every amazing place this part of the country has to offer, that didn't stop me from trying at a breakneck pace. To my delight, I found more amazing sights than I ever could have imagined, including many excellent surprises. Here is a collection of photos from the journey. Of course, there are many more, but this felt like an appropriate representation. From Cali to Denver: Just outside an I-70 rest stop, Central Utah A chilly morning in Maroon Bells, n…

  19. Sorry for the lengthy post to follow, but I took the 2008 Outlook in today for a noisy power steering pump, and ended up test driving a 2008 Infiniti G35x all wheel drive that I really liked. I'd really appreciate some advice from you level-headed people about maybe buying it, or not. I didn't want to clog up the "last thing you bought" thread with this, but that was where we talked a little about a "next car" recently and got me started. The G has 31,450 miles and has most options except navigation, and very nice new Michelin all season tires that look like they'd be good on the occasional snow we get here. And I got them down from $28,988 to $27,500 + $2,000 cash-…

Stealing my thread title from Bob Dylan it seems I have had some recent bad luck purchasing audio stuff over the Internet. I detailed the broken Quad ESL63's I dealt with in the Quad thread. In addition I have had: - Broken new Welborne Labs power supply for my Duet. Sent back and waiting for new one. - Broken new VPI 16.5 record cleaner. I had to open it up and tighten a allen screw to get the platter to turn. - Broken new Seta Nano phono preamp where the left RCA channel cuts out (I use XLR). Vendor is sending me the new model in December because they are aware of a manufacturing defect. - Broken new BA where the volume control was bad. Sent back to Craig and he f…

I don't really want to do this, but wifey asked if I could post the link to a plea page she has up for our stupid cat. We found out he has a growth in his ear that's probably a tumor of some sort and the vet wants between $3800 and $4500 to fix it. So on top of losing my job we now have this.. so anyway, don't feel in the least bit obliged or anything, I'm posting because she asked me to. 24. Started by Grahame,

On Friday I had the fun experience of the "traditional" approach to making a (replacement) dental crown (multiple impressions, making + fitting of temporary crown etc) . And this was just the first visit. I still have the second visit to look forward to for the removal of the temporary crown and the fitting of the permanent crown. On discussing this with our FD at work, she mentioned that her dentist had used a CNC milling machine to make a crown, and fitted in in the same visit. No temporary crown required. She seems happy, and the cost was not dissimilar to the traditional approach. I found some blurb on the web here Dental Crown and Bridges from Harbour Landing D…
