Marc is 76 years old today, but doesn't look a day over 45. That could have something to do with his head always shrouded in pipe smoke. I've been inches away, but never had a clear view. Or possibly it's his career that keeps him looking younger. He's a towel boy at a posh country club, and the constant steam must be the answer ( I realize that some of you think he's involved with software, but that's just his cover story ). Maryanne sent me a pic of the cake she baked, just beautiful! Have the best day ever Marc ( if that is indeed your real name )!

I have to admit that the IRS is getting on my nerves a bit -- getting me just a little bit angry. Doing those things they do. I did my tax (or rather, had them done) early this year because we owed a little bit a of money last year, and I switched jobs last year, so I wanted to see where I was at in terms of taxes. As it turms out, because of various factors, I significantly overpaid, so I'm expecting what for me was a sizable refund. My taxes were electronically filed on 2/16. According to the IRS chart, I should have had my refund directly depositted last Friday. As of today, nothing. So I check online and find that the processing of my return has been "delayed,"…

Article suggesting that it is the artifacts we are familiar with, that we like.. I remember wondering what audiophiles were up to, buying extremely expensive home audio systems to play old vinyl records. They put turntables in sand-filled enclosures with elaborate cabling schemes. I wondered what they heard in that music that I didn't. Someone explained to me that audiophiles liked the sound artifacts of vinyl records -- the crackles of that format. It was familiar and comfortable to them, and maybe those affects became a fetish. Is it now becoming the same with iPod lovers? The Sizzling Sound of Music - O'Reilly Radar

I come in to work everyday at 7:30 ish... People show up at 8:30. Everyone around me is really into this fantasy football bullshit and as soon as they start showing up, like directly on top of me, they all sit there talking for like between 30-60 mins about this shit, really loud. It aint a huge deal now and then, but it seems through out the day a few of these guys in sales or whathever just keep coming back here to talk to this guy next to me for between 15-30 mins about this garbage. Anythign from a blog posting about baseball trades, to anything... I'm pretty into sports also, but I do my best not to sit on top of people talking for an hour while I see they are kinda …

Okay after finding this place just recently, and then jumping back and forth to the other forum (HF), I am starting to loose patience with the other place. Does any of those fuckers know how to use the search function. Surely by now everybody ought to fucking have a pretty good idea of what the "best closed headphone under $100" is, or even the "best portable amp under $150" is.

I'm curious - how many of you here have perfect pitch? For those who don't know, perfect pitch or absolute pitch is the ability to recognize a note that's being played without any reference. I don't have it personally and it's something that's been bugging me for a while... I mean, I listen to music everyday, I've been playing music since a very young age, both alone and in orchestras/harmonies, so I've been surrounded by music for as long as I can remember, but I still can't identify notes by ear. Some people have this ability naturally, others don't and scientifics still don't have solid evidences about the cause of this.

As Wayne has already pointed out, it's hard to believe that so much time has gone by. You deserved to have a long and wonderful life! But the universe had other plans for you. We really miss you Matt. I for one am better for knowing you, even if only briefly.

Another member said something that reminds me of some of my musings concerning how we perceive various types of stimuli. Each format has its own sonic signature. Those people who grew up listening to vinyl have trained themselves to listen through the surface noise and accept the sonic signature, or limitations of records. Many of these individuals find listening to digital extremely unpleasant, even unacceptable. Whereas many who listen solely to digital and have never listened to vinyl find listening to records extremely unpleasant, even unacceptable. Everyone has their own set of filters with which they process information. Many of us who originally listened sol…
