So I read through EdipisReks' thread here, but I have already brought back one thread from the dead and decided better of it this time. So here is a new thread. Just got the MB Quart QP55x's yesterday. Got them through eBay for $45 shipped. Brand new, unopened box. I mainly got them for the velour pads to put on my Sextett's. Anyway, currently I have been listening to them and so far I am impressed. Build Decent quality, not as high quality as AKG or Senn's; but they should hold up to plenty of abuse. All plastic and retro looking. I won't say that they look "cool", but c'mon does that really matter anyway. The cord is higher quality than any Rat Shack cord, but n…

After getting myself a pair of Jecklin Floats Model I needed to restore these: Before and after: Since I put another cable on them as well (Mogami 2893), I wanted to do a quick and easy test. I pulled the DIY Charlize out of the rack, added the PS1 as the player and hooked the Float up to the speaker out. While I have to say that there was some ground noise, this whole combo really rocks! David Bowie "The Man Who Sold The World" has been described as "Hard-Rock" but I never heard it this hard rocking! Before the Float was all Highs, Bass was there but not really coming to the fore. With the proper pads and the new cable the Float I is one of…

  3. Hello! I'm looking for a pair of headphones for my work. I'll be wearing them for about 4 hours every day to cut out noise and distraction at my station. I'm really looking for the sweet spot between Comfort, overall quality and price! (I have a budget of $100) I've done a lot of searching, and so far the Sennheiser HD 439 seems like a contender. Are there better models for the same price? any more options that I'm missing? Any help is appreciated!!! Thanks!

  4. I got my cans and my amp back yesterday. The ps-1's are recabled with a custom beryillium copper alloy cable, and the rs-1's are recabled with a moon audio black dragon. The amps 1/4" neutrik was replaced with a 4-pin xlr and some of the wiring was redone. My initial impressions are that the sound is more open and 3d. The bass has become bloated, and the overall sound is less refined. I prefer the ps-1's over the rs-1's currently because of their added refinement and better sound stage, but the rs-1 midrange does have its moments. Biggie.

Hey guys, I'm planning on designing some leather Grado pads but I would like to get some suggestions as to whether people would prefer the pads being more bowl shaped or GS1000 pad shaped. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks

So even though i wanted to get RS-1's, I didn't really want to get rid of my HF-1's. I came across some Darth Beyers today, and couldn't resist. They'll be my priciest cans to date... Sometimes, hobbies can be dangerous. To get the goahead for the purchase, I had to promise to not complain about the amount my fiancee spends when we go clothes shopping this week. What have I gotten myself into ladies and gents, WHAT!?!?... Oh well, a nice big box in the mail later this week will make everything better... **BRENT**

Hey guys, need advice from your infinite wisdom. I recently lost my Shure SE425, therefore I need new earbuds. As good as they were, they lacked bass for me. As a beasshead, Im now looking for earbuds that have extreme bass, don't really mind compromising over quality of the rest of the spectrum (I have an HD650 for audiophile listening). I don't really have a max budget, but if it could remain under 500$, that'd be awesome. Also, I will be driving them with my phone's headphone jack, no portable amp (I just hate addtionnal bulk in my pockets). Thanks in advance. UPDATE: managed to find some XB90EX brand new for 100usd shipped, thanks everyone

  9. Generally speaking, I'm mostly listening to Lo-Fi Music, Hip-Hop, and Punk-Rock. Here are 2 sample songs for each aforementioned genre: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiljpJc5pzlkTTyVsLGEoS5hS4tkyaMsh Intended use I listen to music at any time & any place, meaning that I really prefer headphones that are noise-protecting. Speaking from my personal experience, I'm a big fan of IN-EAR and OVER-EAR headphones. They feel naturally comfortable to me and that's generally a big brownie point. Please don't hesitate if you have any further questions or ideas! THEREFORE Super many Thanks in Advance! I genuinely appreciate the privilege of being able to…

  10. I sold my HD650s a little while ago and now I kind of regret it. I'm thinking of picking up another pair of 650s or 6XXs, but there are rumors that the newer ones that are assembled in Romania are somewhat different than the made-in-Ireland sets. However, Sennheiser has stated on the Drop website in this post: They also said in this post: Does anyone have any direct experience comparing older and newer HD650s and/or HD6XXs?

I've bought a new SR-003 in eBay and when I connect them to the Pro bias connector of a modified SRD-7 can listen to a small noise in the right channel, it is a small "backfire", as if the earphones were throwing a long fart. It is difficult for my to explain this noise in your language In the first moment I believed that it was a problem of the SRD-7, but when I disconnected the earphones I continued listening to this noise, I suppose that for the capacitive load of the cables. If I connect the earphones to the connector of low bias I do not listen to this noise. With music I don't listen this noise and the sound is good. These are the first electrostatic earph…

Hello. I have a pair of Lambda Nova Basic. Both drivers are slanted forward and left one has less bass. Volume is slightly unbalanced but mostly noticeable for stereo music. Should I risk it? Audio signature suddendly changed today and then it sounded normal again (that's when I noticed both drivers slanted forward. Left one was only slightly slanted now both of them fully are)

So, I hae a broken pair of DT990's. One of the channels is significantly lower than th'other. Like 18db lower. First of all, for my edification -- what would cause such a thing? I would have guessed a broken connection, but I can still hear the signal, albeit significantly weakened. A short? An almost broken connection? I rule out the latter, because it does not cut in and out. This is all just theory -- I'm not much of a solderer. Secondly, who would be a good person to send to fix it, and perhaps to upgrade it at the same time (new cables)?

I heard that shure had changed the shure se530 cable formula in order to fix cable broken issue. Anyone know information about that? As I read on heafi, Shure changed the formula on June 08, so is it correct?

http://www.headphile.com/page20.html Looks cool, though I don't totally get it. Are the drivers supposed to be swappable or something? Or is it more of a CD3000 hybrid type deal, but with heavily modded beyers? Seems cool either way. And the Cherry Bomb description confuses me a bit, are they grados with fully custom wood enclosures and modular cable?

The local Craigslist is choke full of "NIB" Beats. Somebody must be bringing in truckloads of Chinese knock-offs. We have had a ton of those white van speakers around here, now these. There must be 20 a day listed. Worthless either way, real or not. Is this the case around the other metro areas around the country?

Hi, I'm in the process of fixing up a HE60 I found in very poor condition. I've replaced the pads and headband, and thankfully the plastic housing is in pretty good shape. The cable seems like its the stock cable, but with a very shoddy stax retermination. The previous owner took very poor care of them and listened to them for years with a Woo Audio amp, and unsurprisingly the drivers are on their last legs (intermittent pops and high pitch whining when plugged into an amp). Thankfully I also have found some new old stock replacement drivers. I also have found a replacement orpheus cable with a 4.7 MOhm bias resistor. Unfortunately, when it comes to soldering an…

  21. Sadly, I have a noisy family. No but seriously they are real noisy. I listen currently to SR-007A Mk2 with KGST, but need a pair of closed back non-stats, which will be run off my PureBipolar. I have collected names, and have so far Focus Stellia or ZMF Verite Closed or Kennerton Rognir. A shop some hours away has 2/3 of these in stock. The question really is, for a stat devotee listening to acoustic music (classical and jazz) will any of these be acceptable in the aim to help me forget my family? Or will they all make me run screaming from the house instead?

Hi This is my first post, I would appreciate opinions on why I have this issue. The link below is the Stax energizer using Lundahl PP TX that I built with a pro-bias circuit. The only change was I didn't use the Lundahl power transformer or the oil caps, I used a magnetically shielded toroid TX mounted on top of the cabinet and poly caps, I also installed the 4m700k resistor after the last cap. The bias volts are 575 d/c, here is the issue, when using my new 500 MK 11 headphones there is a plopping sound that starts in the left channel and then in the R channel, think of a dripping faucet in a cup of water, the L channel is about 60 cycles per minute and th…

After listening to 340's for about 30 minutes the top part of my right ear begins to hurt then it becomes unbearable, I also feel the clamp is too strong on my head. I changed the elastics that did not help, I took off the plastic part and just hooked the elastics over the part of plastic used to go over and that did not really work. These have the velour pads and I have a big noggin. I am probably going to try different pads but wondered if any one had any suggestions before going this route or should I just cut the tops of my ears off?

But since it's my birthday, maybe someone can help without whipping me for being so stupid and lazy... "Hey Wayne. Can you recommend a set of in-ear monitor for my motorcycle helmet communication system in the $200 ballpark. I’m not listening to music on them; purely for Atom use for driver <-> passenger communication, and the occasional phone call. I’m looking for something that I can comfortably wear inside a helmet for hours at a time. Thanks. Nick. PS. How are you, I haven’t heard from you in a while." Seems to me that he's looking for custom IEMs on the lowest end of the food chain. Some…
