Headphone Amplification

Hi, new here, looks interesting. I use HD600s with my orignal, stock Musical Fidelity X-Cans I am not a big user of headphones at home, mainly LP (LP12) and CD (Ikemi), I never use my PC for music. What should I try and how much (ish) should I expect to pay to noticeably get a better sound than the X-Cans. Has anyone here ever had their X-cans upgraded? thanks KT666 London

Hi I am going to build energizer for Orpheus and Stax with LL9202AM. For Stax I will copy PSU Bias from T1. I wonder if I can use the same kind of PSU from T1 for Orpheus (with lower voltage of course)? I think so, but it could be very expensive mistake if I am wrong ... Can any HE90 owners suggest a 'budget' amp for driving a pair of these headphones? There are a few Stax SRM-007T on Yahoo Japan that won't plunge me further into horrible debt ($600-ish). How would they do? This is really only until I can save up for something a lot nicer. Cheers, Wai

Maybe Beefy knows something about these Aussie blokes? Their new Headamp popped up on HF this morning. It looks quite interesting as a potential match with HD800s. It's powered by their own discrete opamps, which they apparently also sell separately. Has anyone had any experience with rolling these?

This probably dives me more insane than anything else about this hobby/obsession. So I finally make the switch and have all my music into a 5g iPod 60gb, I get the awesome Turbodock II for the line out and am using my fully burned in Hornet. The Hornet sounds awesome... nice texture, black background, good weight/depth, etc. So why did I put it on eBay... I miss the crossfeed and bassboost from my SM for some of my music. Damn I hate this! I wish I could keep both but without the parametric EQ some of the music I listen to sounds slightly too dry with this amp, which is frustrating because I'll switch to a different album and it's bliss! So off I go to sell and on…

I've recently purchased the C&C BH from ebay and it doubles the perfomance of the JDSLabs C421 for almost half the price. It's a top amp. Battery last 80 hours from a single charge! I can't wait to put my hands on the $300 C&C XO2 for an A/B. As we proceed I'll let you know more details about this little gen, that beats amps that cost twice as much. It has the performance of $300 amps, with the resolution/detail/clarity of much more expensive amps. If you live in the USA you can get it for just $99 and odds are that in your country you don't pay customs tax. I think the same applies to Australia. Hi, I'm asking for help because I can't understand ... so i installed in my 006 two tung-sol 6sn7gtb tubes (American NOS)with about 250 hrs on them (so out burn-in but new), I replaced the adjustment trimmers with multiturns to have more control, I use a ceramic screwdriver, my mains voltage is 220Vac constant, I let the amp warm up for at least an hour (with signal on and volume at about 2) before calibrating, put the volume to zero and select an input with no signal (the 1, which is connected only the 3). .. tester in Vdc...first I adjust the balance or then the offset, then balance again and then offset...then I switch to the other channel now this happens to …

I was wondering what you have been paying for your 6sn7w's. I saw a pair of metal base 6sn7w's that went for $459 on ebay, and another pair, again on ebay, for almost $500 .... both buy it now. I am trying to get a current market value of these tubes. I know tkam uses them, but anyone who buys these tubes or has any input, please post .... your input is welcome.

I'm thinking about upgrading my headphone amp, and since I'm using my Nuforce Icon for headphones right now I might as well upgrade my speaker amp at the same time. I've heard good things about the 840A, but not much about its headphone amp. Anyone have any experience?

SET and push-pull designs in tube amps? I know this is a very broad question, but what I am interested in is, if one design is suitable more for some type of headphones over the other. As far as I know, with the same tubes, push-pull designs can put more power, however with the usage of headphones, that should not be that important, I guess. The reason of this question is the following: I am wondering, if HD800s will be driven better with a PP or SE design in the same price range? What do you think? Also, very briefly, why? I would appreciate any information you might provide. Thanks.

Can you hear the piano on Bob Dylan's Mondern Times, "Spirit on the Water" and if you can, where is it? my mid range set up: Computer>optical Constantine>Woo3, GS1 Listening with my 880s tonight: (stock foobar 9.5, 32 bit, kernel streaming, album@320kpps mp3~EAC With the Woo3 the piano is subdued, on the right and mixed into the music With the GS1, I can hear the piano as a separate instrument, but barely..... lots of air and space to the cut, but I'm having difficulty picking out the piano with the tube amp and can only do it slightly better with the SS. What are you guys hearing? USG

Hello It occurs to me that the Cary 300sei is selling mostly under 2K on A'gon. which gives me the impression that maybe i can start thinking about trading in my ZD.... anyone have any idea about how these compare?

Took my Cary 300sei out of the garage not heated where it has been unused for over a year, amp was pretty cold temps in the high 40s. I should have let it get to room tempature but I didn't Amp turned on got a hum from the transformers I really never noticed before,Input tubes light up but My WE300bs never light up. Ideas? I have another set of we300bs ,but I don't want to take a chance installing them. I don't have any cheaper tubes to try.

I've seen a few Cary SLI 80s go for pretty decent prices on audiogon lately. Been thinking about picking one up to use as a headphone amp and to drive a pair of monitors in a secondary rig. Does anyone have experience with it as a headphone amp? Is it good with all phones? Or just low or high impedance phones?
