Hi All, I have been going cross-eyed of late poring through the various threads for the projects required to get a complete amp together and hoping to get a few pointers. I was originally looking at building a Dynalo based amp but after some feedback from Pars and others I had a look at the CFA2/3 boards and think I have decided to go with a CFA3 based build. I'm taking a Microelectronics lab course and we need to pick a particular not overly complicated circuit we think is interesting that is in the literature to build and test. If necessary, we are allowed to make use of the VLSI fabrication laboratory but have to design the layout ourselves. Any cool ideas people have for this project? Edit: Forgot to say that unless we provide the transistors/opamps/etc ourselves, we are using bog standard parts. 2N390x BJTs and ancient 4007 MOSFETs. Opamps are some newer version of the 1458.

I started to think about upgrading my HT and my new plan is to have an AV processor plus power amp. After searching for a while, I figured that Hypex might be a good choice as a power amp. What would be a good option here? A) 5 X UcD400HG with HxR Softstart module Exodus MCH Power Supply Transformer 115/230V x40V 1KVA 5 X UcD400HG with HxR SMPS1200 Plus of course heatsinks, case and other accessories. Received my RS-2 a few days back, the previous owner used GS1000 big bowls with them which fit very tightly and left an annoying residue around the inside edging of both cups. It's a very minor concern, but I was wondering what I should use to get rid of the black gunk? Muchos Gracias.

What can I use to get rid of nasty sticker/tape goo residue without harming a nice surface? The item in question is the VAC-1 (VDA-2, VHP-2, whatever) and I'm talking about the nice smooth finish on the front plate.

Someone, who will remain unnamed here, got me interested in building a Megatron I got quotes back from the fab houses. If we can get 10 sets we can get the cost per board down to just under $40 USD (plus shipping from me to the participant). The PCB is 228mm x 228mm and will be 2mm thick with 4oz copper. I did some research and the only obsolete/hard-to-get part is the 4 2SA1968 which Kevin confirmed can be replace with KSA1156 mounted backwards. The board also uses 2 2SC1815 or MPSW06. I have a stack of the 2SC1815 so I am happy to supply them to the GB participants that need them (no cost). Please respond here if you are interested. Thanks!

My P/S caps are 220mFd electrolytics. My unterstanding is that the higher the value, the greater the storage capacity... increasing the amps bass performance. If so, what value should I stop at? I.E. How high is "too high"? Do cap brands really make a sonic difference? My power supply is two 9V cells, with virtual ground between the two 9V batteries.... Similar to the RA1, however the RA1 doesn't use electrolytic capacitors in its power scheme. Are the P/S caps even necessary in the above schematic?

I could not help but notice that the dead tree carcass machinists have a thread on wood machining. But dead trees do not make the best cases for stax amplifiers. ok, I'm finishing up a Twisted Pear Buffalo DAC using the soon to be released Legato III I/V output stage. I intend to use the BAL/SE stage in the beginning since all of my headphone amps are single ended. However I want to build a balanced headphone amp. It will be the balanced dynahi or M³ and I'm concerned about the statement below from Twisted Pear. What does this mean if I build a balanced M³ or dynahi rev2?

I really don't like the screw terminal blocks much, so I was going to use PCB headers/wire mounted connectors for a couple of projects. I need something in 5.08mm (0.200") or close, and the only ones I have come up with so far are the Hirose HF5 series at Digikey (http://www.hirose.co.jp/cataloge_hp/e67600011.pdf, or the Molex SPOX series at Mouser View List I want something where it is foolproof to take apart and put back together. I need connectors of 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 pins. Digikey has everything I need. Mouser has everything EXCEPT the 8 pin header (they carry the 8 pin connector... not sure why?).
