I Can't Hear You, Speaker Man, I'm Listening to My Headphones

  1. Started by Zanth,

Though speakers are not in my immediate future, nor really in my remote future, but I have been listening to some very serious setups as of late and speakers offer some things headphones do not: 1) listening for 2+ 2) realistic bass 2) soundstaging/live feel With a new little one on the way, it would be great to be able to sit with him on the couch late at night while my wife tries to get some zzz's and my other son is sleeping upstairs. I could do this with headphones I suppose, but it would be safer all around to do this with speakers. I have a hankering for coincident victories and tube amp from CJ or VAC, but that is beyond my budget, even used. But if only t…

Sound Has anyone tried these out? Seems to be in a price range between the Audioengines and the Quads. With a built in USB DAC and headphone amp, the feature list looks pretty good.

  3. Started by Voltron,

Has anyone done this successfully? Bluetooth or wifi? This is not for an audiophile.

  4. Started by HiWire,

These should go well with my Arcam C31/P1 monoblocs... pity about the price, though. I'm currently running Acoustic Energy Aegis Two floorstanders. http://www.pmc-speakers.com/products/consumer/twenty/twenty26 I heard the older FB1i at a dealer paired with Arcam electronics and it was a great match. Initial reports from the Bristol show last weekend seem to be enthusiastic. I'll take mine in Amarone.

After years of only Headphone listening, I'm finally jumping on the speaker party. Coming from the headphone hi.end I must say it has been pretty disappointing on the performance side with speakers..Most need to get the volume up to lvls where it gets shouty or annoying to get some kinda engaging sound and most just sound thin.. specially if music is not perfect jazz records, some get crazy details but again, music is nowhere engaging. Enter the Zu's, I heard the Zu Omen Dirty Weekend II on the dealer(have never heard of them) and loved the sound, totally different from most known brands, this speakers can truly rock. They have such a dynamic and forward sound,…

Should be able to pick it up by the end of next week. I'm thinking it will be a pretty big upgrade over my trusty VK-42SE. Now all thats left are the amps. Right now I'm leaning towards the BAT VK-75se or 150se tube amps or the 600SE SS BAT amp. That should complete the BAT/Harbeth system.

Does anyone here know anything about these speakers. Enclosure design looks very interesting on paper, but I was curious if someone heard these. They only have two models it seems.

  12. Started by laxx,

Has anyone heard these before? I remember someone on Head-fi had a pair, but don't remember who. I'm currently talking to a guy in Maryland about his pair (he's selling a pair of X-Statik's, X-Voce, and a MFW-15 sub) for a pretty good price, but pick up only. I'm trying to work out the details of how large of a car I'll need. I guess I just need a little nudge to commit as long as I can find a way to bring them back to NYC. And I guess I'll find out after tomorrow's watch sale if I even have the money to buy them.

The midrange driver on one of my B&W 802 stop moving. i listed it at ebay but decided to pull it out and make it a project to fix it. Madisound suggest replacing the capacitor which i did and to my surprise, it did work and it sounds damn good. now i am in a process of replacing all the capacitors since they are about 30+ y/o (the bad speaker first to compare the sound between original and modified). i am installing different brands of capacitor (mostly poly cap some electrolitic) to match the value and fit the tight space. I bought some Mundorf Supreme and Clarity Cap for the tweeter and midrange section and will install them soon. The base is a little l…

  14. Anyone here know cheap speaker cables with small/skinny spade plugs? My McIntosh 2100 has tiny speaker taps (there's a pic of it around here somewhere) and most spades won't come close to fitting, unfortunately.

What do you guys think about Zu's? Specifically the Druid mk IV? I'm thinking of picking-up a pair used for around $1600... I briefly heard them at a dealer and really liked what I heard, but they were being driven by a big solid state amp (even though they're very sensitive)... I plan on driving them with a 2 watt decware SET amp. Thanks, mjb

  18. Started by tkam,

I moved into my new place last week and the room where my Selah 3D's will be going has hardwood floors. The 3D's currently have rather large metal spikes for feet, and I'm looking to replace them with rubber feet to avoid damaging the hardwood floor. I need some suggestions on rubber feet that screw in and have a recess for 1/4-20 machine screw.

  19. Started by GPH,

What would you guys recommend as a good integrated amp, preferably under 800$, that could handle well Quad 12L2 speakers and that could be use to feed a SRD-7 Mk2/SR-007 at the same time? My source for the moment is an Apogee Duet. Here are the specs of the Quad speakers:

  20. I now have more speaker cabinets than I know what to do with. 4x Yamaha NS-1000s, some 15 years old and decidedly quirky. These served as the fronts and surrounds in my HT system for over 7 years. 2x Unisound AU265s, I'll get around to modding these at some point in a utopian future. 1x B&W CDN-CNT, center channel. There's also a pair of Pinnacle <mumbles> upstairs that were my father's and were re-drivered at some point. All of the above have been driven by my Rotel RMB-1075 since late 2003. It puts out 125W into five channels. It's a decent amp for flinging movie noises around the room, but it's not exactly what I'd call musical. Having just purch…

I just ordered a pair of these mono blocks for $899 with a 21 day return policy. I figured I would pick I would give them a try. I also would love some of you more tecnically knowledgeable to check out the website and let me know what you think, if you can tell from the information on the site: http://www.tubeaudiodesign.com/

Found some positive reviews of Emotiva bang-for-buck, but they've been a bit short on details. Anyone here have experience with the RPA2, XPA2 or any other Emotiva offerings? Not sure what speakers I'll finally mate with these, but at least initially it was be some CSW M80s. Likely use the Extreme Platinum as a preamp. Any guidance much appreciated. I've been having intermittent issues with my Moth Audio system that I was blaming on the amp until I recently discovered that one of them Cicada drivers is dead. Doug helped me troubleshoot and I found no short in the driver but it reads zero ohms. The other one shows 12 ohms as it should. Doug mentioned that someone much more skilled than I would be able to test it out more thoroughly, but I am not sure what the point would be unless it could be repaired. So, does anyone know of a source for Cicada drivers? Does anyone happen to have one or a pair even that they are not using and would be willing to sell? Apparently, Nelson Pass bought all of Craig's stock and then …

I'm working on a pair of speakers that will be 13.5" high, 7" wide, and 14.75" deep at the base. What sort of rule of thumb do you use when choosing appropriate stands? These Dynaudio1 stands just showed up, but I'm not sure they'd be the best match: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?accsrack&1208786474 Any recommendations?
