Well it has taken me almost 5 days to upgrade my EeePC disk from the 80Gb stock issue to a 320Gb drive. The main problem is that most of the disk cloning software just absolutely sucks and failed in one way or another when I tried to use it. However xxClone came through, worked superbly and was extremely easy to use. I now have 268Gb for music/data, WooHoo.

  6. So I had ripped Abbey Road into FLAC files a while back and converted them (via Max) recently to ALAC so I can use them with my iPod. For some odd reason, I can't play one of the tracks (Something) nor can I add it to the iTunes library. Rest of the album works just fine and the track in question plays just fine in FLAC format on Cog. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? It's not that big of a deal but I really don't feel like tracking down my CD in the abbys that is my closet.

  8. I've got a small Apple wireless that I take with me on gigs. I usually plug into the local network and I can get out on the network, plus set up the wireless so that anyone else on a mac can leech off. At home I come out of the cable modem directly into my ethernet port. I've noticed that when I plug in the Airport Express my dowload times and browser refresh rates are much faster off of the Express than being directly plugged in. Shouldn't it be faster directly plugged in to the modem? Do I need a different ethernet cable perhaps? Just curious. I've had no issues with the hardware on my Macbook Pro...

So I've got enough free space on my MacBook that I'd like to have a go at running Windows on it, just for kicks. So is there any reason not to use boot camp? i.e. is there a better way? With the single largest caveat being that I don't want to have to wipe the drive and reinstall both OS's.

So I finally got my internet "working" a little while back and now my router is being a PITA. When I connect from the cable modem to the router, and either connect wirelessly or wired to the router there is no internet, but I can still access the router page (192.168.1.1) and if I connect the cable modem straight to the computer using ethernet, the internet works fine. I tried resetting the router and doing everything I found online (that doesnt void the warranty) such as changing the router ip address, changing the router to static ip address, trying different security options, beating it up etc etc So does anyone have any suggestions?

My Lite-On DVD/CD recording drive is on its lasts legs. It still reads and writes okay, but the drawer only opens one time in 20. I suppose I should not complain much, as it was about $30, 3 years ago. Recommend to me a new DVD recorder. It must be internal, IDE, and preferably in stock at newegg. I have been perusing different models here [i am not sure this link will work for other users], and I notice with some distress that most such units cost $20 or so, which leads me to doubt their reliability. I see a couple Pioneer units that are around $40. It used to be that Pioneer made excellent DVD drives, but that was years ago, and I understand they are crap now. T…

Just thought I'd get a pulse on how Mac fans handle their digital music libraries. For example, do you ALAC + iTunes, or do you FLAC + some heretofore unknown program to postjack, or do you bypass all of that with a Squeezebox, etc. Currently on the PC I'm finding the Squeezebox to be the best thing since peanut butter since I don't have to screw with clunky buggy slow foobar (just my experience) or ASIO. Its my understanding that Macs don't need ASIO because Core Audio > kmixer, is this correct?

  20. Started by Knuckledragger,

I have an AGP (yes, it's old) video card with dual DVI outputs. Currently, I only have one working monitor. Are the the outputs on AGP and PCI video card standardized with regard to the location of monitor one and two in Windoes? i.e. is the left DVI out (when looking at the back of the card) always monitor one? Unfortunately, I am not in a position to test this myself. I need the one working monitor I have to be monitor one on the first boot in this instance.

  22. If, like me, you find it annoying to have Time Machine start churning away when you're already employing your Mac's FireWire bus to transport bits to your Duet, then you're in luck. Time Machine Editor Let's you schedule backups when you want them rather than the default hourly behavior. Works fine for me so far, doesn't appear to perform any dodgy hacks and is free as in beer.

  23. I attended this CME course and they gave us the lectures in iPod video format as well (.m4v), but I don't have an iPod or a Mac, so I'm having a hard time finding a way to play them on Windows. Does anyone know any reverse encoding software that can make them into a file that I can playback? Thanks.

  24. So I'm using my MacBook's miniToslink port to connect to my DAC. I've been using this set up for two days now. But today, all of a sudden, I would get random noises--it's not clipping--just digital noise, which goes away in five seconds or so. The noise shows up randomly. FYI: I'm using Play as my player, and I set the output to 16/44.1 in AudioMidi utility.
