Here's the really important news of the day! http://www.mercurynews.com/crime-courts/ci_29665803/u-s-supreme-court-hear-apple-v-samsung5 points

Spent the day in Illinois. Short client meeting but hung out in Hinsdale the rest of the day. Found a great beer/wine store, Whole Foods here has a whole FFF beer section, great butcher shop with Prime Brisket, found a decent home audio shop and two decent bike shops. Have not found guitar or camera shops but I am sure they are here. Ferrari dealer is 2 blocks from the house so I take that as a good sign.4 points

The GTI was sold this morning. Truecar is working on the replacement, unless Jeff wants to unload the S4 for half what it's worth.4 points

I have two stacked 4 channel power amps (self build - but think in terms of two Emotiva XPA5 in size and power). Damned cat has taken to sleeping on top because it is warm. Took lid off to find the inside covered in a thick layer of ginger cat fur. Hoovered it out as a precaution, but the amps hadn't missed a beat even with a mat of cat on the circuit boards.3 points

I found it to not be all that comfortable for a 6-1 guy and his two kids and all their crap. I was constantly getting kicked in the back and feeling like the car was stuffed to the gills just getting people back and forth to school. It had also started to irritate and old hip injury. The side bolsters on the bottom of the seat were, at times, painful. Otherdays it felt like sitting in a perfect fitting glove. It was frustrating. Thanks and not entirely sure. Likely candidate, 2016 4Runner Trail Premium. Hardly. While values were down I still did ok as a private sale. I'd have taken a huge bath trading it in though with dealers offering 15% below published KBB/NADA values at best. And those numbers have gone down a lot in the past 6 months for sure. Basically when I got a cash offer at 95% of my asking price I took the money and ran. I suspect I could have got another $500 or so (full asking) if I did 3000 better than trading it in which was good enough for me. I made a conscious decision not putting any $ down on it so to sell it this early in the game (19 months and 30k miles in) and do better than break even vs. payoff seemed like a huge win. I fully expected to basically pay a retroactive downpayment to get out of it. Can't say I'd recommend a GTI to him given that he's not exactly a small fellow (from what I remember from pics). Encourage him to drive one first for as long a test drive as they'll allow.2 points

I really think your best bet is to buy my practically NIB BHSE and keep it in the box to replace yours if it is murdered by dust or humidity.2 points

Hello My little amplifier for my Stax headphones. First stage is based on ECC82. One triode per channel as cathodyne phase inverter. The second stage is 6N1P-EW with CCS, and power stage is with E80CC with CCS too. It was designed to work with my PC to drive Lambda Pro. So output voltage is not so big 308 V peak-peak, but it is enough for Lambda Pro.1 point

I'd say it's the worst time to get away from the VW brand, since you'd be selling at a loss over traditional values. Now is definitely "buy" or "hold" time.1 point

I can't say that no amount of dust that can accumulate in a couple of year can do harm. If you dust it regularly and open it up to vacuum it once a year (or two), I believe that no harm would come to it. I'd use the cover as I'm too lazy to do the dusting and vacuuming.1 point

Shelly, my idea was that you'd put your BHSE on the top shelf and acquire the cloth cover of your choice. I'd just use a large enough cotton towel but you could choose whatever suits you. When the BHSE is on, the cover is off. When you are done listening to the BHSE, let the tubes cool a bit. I'd think that 5 minutes would be enough. Then dust the BHSE and cover with the cloth until the next listening session. This solution is simple, effective and easy to execute.1 point

If I'm understanding you correctly, I'm not sure humidity under a small (relative to the rest of the apartment) dust cover would amount to much. It's not like the humidity will get trapped in there by the humidity equivalent of a Maxwell's Demon or anything -- as much humidity departs as enters if it's not hermetically sealed, and if you had it on recently when you put the cover on, it'll probably be less humid in the vicinity of the amp than elsewhere in the apartment. Heck, it was probably exposed to more humidity in Justin's workshop in swampy ol' Virginia while it was being built than at your place. I thought you all had dry heat? And by you all, I mean West of the Mississippi (and East of the ...whatever mountains that stop the humidity rolling off of the Pacific -- I know it doesn't take much, my sister used to work East of the bay, and it was basically desert there).1 point

That was remarkably perfunctory. But in for a couple of 128GB (smaller) iPad Pros as the kids have pretty much beaten their Airs to death. What a fucking dog's breakfast the naming conventions across the range are now. iPad mini 2, iPad mini 4, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro, iPad Pro.1 point

Forget the plastic cover and no, there are no issues with plastic cover on any of my turntables. Also, while it is humid in Florida, it isn't in my house which has A/C.1 point

I'm in the UK - and maybe it is not as humid as Florida, say, but for a decent part of the year we are close to the triple point of water. No problems with any electronics I have had ever. Including BH (non-SE) and T2. Outside currently 10C and 67%RH1 point
