Sweet. Thanks for the explanation about the voltage jump, guys! Pictures attached to this post. This was my first time working with external heatsinks. I underestimated the difficulty, and ruined one sink trying to hand-drill it. Total fail. Luckily, I discovered that a colleague owns a Tormach PCNC 1100, and he was kind enough to invite me to his workshop and let me use the machine. A gorgeous device, let me tell you. It made short work of all the drilling. Then I hand-tapped all the holes (I think the Tormach machine can tap holes, but I wasn't sure how to keep the oil flowing and the taps clear of gunk for this operation). The heatsinks themselves took some finding. They are Fischers, 10mm high by 300mm long, with 40mm fins, part SK 56 100 SA. High quality, and hard to find in the US. With 10mm standoffs, the entire amp fits nicely into an enclosure just slightly larger than 2.5U. (I also tried sinks with identical dimensions from HS Marston, and they sucked: all extrusions I received were crooked, and there was no way I could have bolted angle brackets to them.) The rest of the chassis was done by FPE. In retrospect, I wish I extended the top and bottom panels to overlap the sharp edges of the heatsink fins, with large rectangular cutouts so air could still circulate. Still, I'm happy with how the case turned out. If anyone cares, I'm happy to share the .fpd files. Because FPE does not do anodizing, I had to have the panels made in two steps: one run before getting the pieces to an anodizer, and one run after. The circuit itself was easy to assemble and adjust. No trouble from the Toroidy transformer. Overall, the amp runs a little warm to the touch (at 20mA output): cooler than either my KGST or mini-KGSSHV, though we'll see how it fares after more than an hour (all I've listened so far). Many thanks to @mwl168 for the group buys and build notes, @sorenb and @jdineshk for the capacitor group buy and help, @vilts for making the spectacular titanium knob, everyone else who answered questions and provided inspiration, and many many thanks to Birgir and Kevin for making all this possible in the first place.3 points

Just a few rides I have done in the past. After death ride tour Colorado I quit cycling. I love the downhill but have always felt i might enjoy the climbing better (especially when I am in the zone). https://www.strava.com/activities/52392823?utm_content=1831823 https://www.strava.com/activities/46393994?utm_content=1831823 https://www.strava.com/activities/54202707?utm_content=1831823 I will say this the century ride I did was probably one of the most mentally taxing things I have ever done. Your mind starts to wander and you find yourself in a strange place. Though it was tough mentally it felt really good to know I completed it.2 points

Well done Iceland, you play excellent football without the play acting cheating certain other teams do. As for England, they are over paid, over rated arseholes and must be made to take a huge pay cut. I prefer to watch Rugby League than Football, but I do like to watch well played football, so I enjoyed the way Iceland played, with no going down without being touched like most of these so called top players do. Anyway, I very much hope Iceland go on and win the comp.2 points

I am going to ship my ipad 1 to a friend with kids. What level should I have the battery before shipping (for safety) - 30% or 60% or should I discharge?2 points

If you have minimal running costs then 700K at a decent markup (kinda on the excessive side for the LC...) but we know that this is really the third Cavalli Audio as he's run it into the ground two times. He always needs new investment to stay afloat so the running costs clearly aren't low. Also how many of those units resulted in massive discounts on other items and thus last revenue?1 point

If you see any reason to distribute data of some type to several people blu-ray is nice capacity wise. I only use disks in my car these days. But if it had a usb port, I would only burn disks when I'm distributing original music files to friends. SSD's and medium size jump drives are so cheap that data disks (that degrade over time) just don't make sense to me anymore.1 point

I've been watching all seasons of Discovery channels Vikings. While nobody can argue that Ragnar Lothbrok isn't one tough son of a gun, he and others are not without their weaknesses. I'm compiling these weaknesses, and when I'm ready, my well trained army and I will invade with a shock and awe campaign, the likes of which your Viking tribes have never seen before.1 point

No, any commercial product with lithium cells has a protection circuit built in. If the cells dip below a certain voltage the protection circuit refuses to charge the cell. Due to the chemistry of lithium cells it can be dangerous to charge them if they pass below a certain voltage threshold, but you would have to bypass the protection circuit in the battery pack, which I assume isn't an issue in your case. A dead cell has little power stored in it so there is essentially no risk of explosion or fire, that usually happens due to overcharging or a charged cell suffering a puncture, or internal breakdown of some sort like what was happening to a lot of laptops in the late 2000s. The fire/explosion risk of lithium cells is directly related to their energy density, so a dead cell presents no real risk, although I wouldn't recommend trying to smash one.1 point

I think you did more analysis there than Cavalli has ever done for any of his products. Designing with just a multimeter for the win!!1 point

I don't know what you're trying to pull, but you've obviously falsified your profile! You claim to be from Arkansas, yet you have a fork and knife clearly visible, on your plate.1 point

So I know that I've posted these quite a few times recently, but we keep tweaking and I think we hit on a true winner tonight. Red peppers worked better for us. I started them empty, open side down on the Weber. Once they started to soften a bit we flipped them and filled them with the egg mixture. That consisted of 4 eggs beaten, diced Roma tomato, diced pickled jalapeno's and shredded sharp cheddar. The final result was delicious. Spicy, sweet, mildly acidic, and the eggs were soufle-like. This tweak is a keeper. Thanks to Al for the original inspiration. To our adoptees, you both will support us in our retirement, correct? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

That seems like a lot of effort for 18 parts. Have you looked into small ovens? Or hotplates? http://dangerousprototypes.com/2013/03/14/workshop-video-59-946a-solder-reflow-hot-plate-workshop-video/1 point

Thanks to Steve & Andy. I've been listening to the KGSSHV Carbon with the Golden Reference psu for the last three or four days now. Here's my take on the Carbon against the BHSE and DIY T2 which was in response to Muveling's take on the trio on headfi: You memory is nearly spot on Mike. I commend you! I personally will rate the T2 as the best amp among the T2, KGSSHV Carbon, and BHSE. The BHSE and KGSSHV Carbon are equally excellent in my book with the Carbon having considerably grander musical presentation with noticeably wider and slightly deeper soundstage than the BHSE. Spatial imaging are about on par but the wider soundstage does allow the Carbon to produce a more enveloping musical experience. Musical details just floats from the background with better layering compared to the BHSE. On the other hand, the BHSE does offer a more intimate presentation with smoother and more liquid tones from top to bottom especially in the midrange region. Bass doesn't quite hit as hard and authoritative as the Carbon but nonetheless is still very much satisfying to my ears. The SR009 out of the Carbon is actually quite a bass monster surpassing the Hifiman HE1000+Susy Dynahi setup on both texture & details and matching its output. The DIY T2 loose out to the Carbon very slightly on the width of soundstage but does make up in the depth department. It is able to render sweeter musical presentation (yes, even more than the BHSE) and about on par at resolving musical details. Bass output is slightly less than that of the Carbon but the T2's bass has more bloom while the Carbon's bass is tighter and come at you at greater speed. This is my take on three amps with the SR-009 so your mileage may vary. Anyway, I now have the KGSSHV carbon for several days now. Mike and I are quite blessed to have the same builder who executed the build to perfection. Both of our units come with the "Golden Reference " power supply. My unit uses a custom build Khozmos 48 steps attenuator while he goes with the Goldpoint stepped attenuator with exotic resistors. So far my amp has been nothing but pure audio bliss to listen to. It runs cooler to the touch compared to the T2 but definitely warmer than my 500V KGSSHV. Listening to Carbon really make me appreciate how much KG, Birgir and the team continue to push the design envelope. I sure wish the Carbon was there at Tyll's Big Sound Event. I don't see how the HE1000 and HD800 can even come close to the SR009 if the BHSE and KGSSHV Carbon were there at the event. IMO, of course.1 point
