Can I pm you my Paypal address? OK, so today was a busy day at work necessitating a early start with the Borgogne taste testing. The telephone rings and I have a "Microsoft security engineer" with a very suspicious accent on the line telling me that Microsoft has detected a security breach on my computer and he was calling me to help resolve the problem. This guy had no idea what he was in for and I was going to have some fun with him. I proceeded to keep him on the telephone for the next fifteen minutes trying to trouble shoot the problem while fighting with my "wife" for control of the computer because she was trying to buy clothes on Amazon while I was trying to trouble shoot with Microsoft. I would put the phone down and yell at her and then motion for her to scream back at me while pretending to throw things at each other and make a lot of noise while fighting for control of the computer. Eventually the guy saw through my bad acting because he politely told me to "take my computer and place it up my ass". Ah, little pleasures come from the most unexpected sources.15 points

Decided to take a break from unpacking and setting shit up so we drove over to the local beach 10 minutes away. We bought a yearly beach pass that includes all beaches from Ormand Beach to New Smyrna and also Lighthouse Point Park. Then spent a few hours boogie boarding. Very nice day.7 points

The tire shop was able to patch up my tire free of charge. Man, random acts of kindness like that really brighten up the day. Now it is my turn to pay-it-forward.5 points

I really don't get it....I've heard Cavalli amps 4 times @ 3 different shows. Granted show conditions, but each time other amps at the same show sounded better to me. Don't any of these people have access to other amps?! The latest was at the recent Spring NY meet. Dan (MrSpeakers) was displaying his prototype electrostatics with a BHSE, and one of his Ether's with a Cavalli amp. One of the 2 stats sounded promising to me (the other sounded a bit glaring and congested). I went over to listen to the Ether on Cavalli, and it was a bit dull & lifeless, with a frequency response that did not sound balanced at all. I have heard the Ether sound a lot better.... Same thing happened with my own Senn 600's a few years back at the same NY meet. They did not sound as good out of the Cavalli amp that Yikes had as with several other (cheaper) amps at the same show. Heck, my own cheap setup, forgot exactly what it was at the time, sounded better to me. I am no expert at the tech side, so I leave that critique to those who are. But sometimes a lousy design can still SOUND half decent, at least for a period until something goes bad. But to me, these just did not. I haven't heard the LC so can't comment there, but jeez.....I just don't get the enthusiasm.....2 points

Another Carbon powered up. The chassis a tad bit long/deep but too lazy to chop 2-3 inches off to size. A phase splitter sits on top of the trafo for SE input (a power switch off when use balanced). Going cheap with Alps R27; will upgrade later. Thanks, Dr. Gilmore and everyone else for designing the Carbon. Thanks to sorenb for organizing the group buy!2 points

I tried to cryo my ears, but I got a cold reception from the people who do it. So, I'm going with having my ear canals quantum tunnelled to cut out the different propagation delays at varying frequencies..... This is akin to reducing the jitter in your DAC, but a much better high tech solution....... It also helps eliminate the Josephson Junction noise in your synapses and the sound of quantum foam.2 points

Sweet. Thanks for the explanation about the voltage jump, guys! Pictures attached to this post. This was my first time working with external heatsinks. I underestimated the difficulty, and ruined one sink trying to hand-drill it. Total fail. Luckily, I discovered that a colleague owns a Tormach PCNC 1100, and he was kind enough to invite me to his workshop and let me use the machine. A gorgeous device, let me tell you. It made short work of all the drilling. Then I hand-tapped all the holes (I think the Tormach machine can tap holes, but I wasn't sure how to keep the oil flowing and the taps clear of gunk for this operation). The heatsinks themselves took some finding. They are Fischers, 10mm high by 300mm long, with 40mm fins, part SK 56 100 SA. High quality, and hard to find in the US. With 10mm standoffs, the entire amp fits nicely into an enclosure just slightly larger than 2.5U. (I also tried sinks with identical dimensions from HS Marston, and they sucked: all extrusions I received were crooked, and there was no way I could have bolted angle brackets to them.) The rest of the chassis was done by FPE. In retrospect, I wish I extended the top and bottom panels to overlap the sharp edges of the heatsink fins, with large rectangular cutouts so air could still circulate. Still, I'm happy with how the case turned out. If anyone cares, I'm happy to share the .fpd files. Because FPE does not do anodizing, I had to have the panels made in two steps: one run before getting the pieces to an anodizer, and one run after. The circuit itself was easy to assemble and adjust. No trouble from the Toroidy transformer. Overall, the amp runs a little warm to the touch (at 20mA output): cooler than either my KGST or mini-KGSSHV, though we'll see how it fares after more than an hour (all I've listened so far). Many thanks to @mwl168 for the group buys and build notes, @sorenb and @jdineshk for the capacitor group buy and help, @vilts for making the spectacular titanium knob, everyone else who answered questions and provided inspiration, and many many thanks to Birgir and Kevin for making all this possible in the first place.2 points

Headroom designs were ahead of their time and infinitely better quality i still think I can build something much better and still get it all inside the same size box1 point

Sorry Jeff. Two high-quality people don't have to be the right two for each other. Keep the shoe game strong and move along!1 point

This is the gas Bill https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3XeBPb_UFU0Q1JhUXUzZUlCWjJhZE9YejlIcEtmdG51Y2Q0 His Passport The data he provided to confirm his banking info, address, and his and his wife's identities Even his phone number: 0044 7514322529 They had a chat over the phone, the guy was extremely kind and convincing. He must be an artist and has probably stolen a few identities, none of the ones we've shared matches. I wonder if these are members of the same clan stealing audio gear at some show in the US a couple of years ago.1 point

My friend hasn't been able to stop or reverse the transfer, unfortunately Amar's warning was like a couple of days late :(. Nando (my friend) says the guy sounds British, polite and charming, the perfect set for a pro scammer. As soon as I receive all the data he's grabbed from him, not only pics, also a video where his audio system can be seen, I'll be posting it here. It's going to be reported to the Spanish Police, but they say that for an offense under 3000UKP the British Police will do nothing. Looks like UK has been off the international police affairs as away as has been from the Euro and other european matters. He's looking at UK Police websites to see if there's any chance to involve them into this, and also contacting Ebay, truth is that he tried to close the deal using their check out system, but the scammer's configuration didn't allow it and he trusted to deal directly with him. Maybe he won't get his money back, but it's possible we can stop this weasel to scam more people. We can set up a meeting in the UK then paying a visit to this guy1 point

If you have minimal running costs then 700K at a decent markup (kinda on the excessive side for the LC...) but we know that this is really the third Cavalli Audio as he's run it into the ground two times. He always needs new investment to stay afloat so the running costs clearly aren't low. Also how many of those units resulted in massive discounts on other items and thus last revenue?1 point

Just a few rides I have done in the past. After death ride tour Colorado I quit cycling. I love the downhill but have always felt i might enjoy the climbing better (especially when I am in the zone). https://www.strava.com/activities/52392823?utm_content=1831823 https://www.strava.com/activities/46393994?utm_content=1831823 https://www.strava.com/activities/54202707?utm_content=1831823 I will say this the century ride I did was probably one of the most mentally taxing things I have ever done. Your mind starts to wander and you find yourself in a strange place. Though it was tough mentally it felt really good to know I completed it.1 point

Spent the day shopping for something resembling 1930s cocktail attire for a charity event tomorrow night. Any of you guys part of the 1930s cocktail set that can remember what you wore?1 point

Woke up to breakfast and a Father's Day gift. Then hanging out before visiting dad's grave with mom. Steak dinner, followed up by playing catch with the kids until it was too dark to see. 3 hours hanging out with Zoƫ (Xavier wanted to spend the night at my mom's because she has a super comfy chair he wants to sleep in,) and now time for a nap before two days of training at work I have to go in early for. Fairly solid day. **BRENT**1 point
