  3. Yeah, retro computing is a "thing". Lot of internet forums support it. Oh, I already have an original PET. this one: C64s haven't really appreciated much in value yet. (they will though, with time) Atari 800s are trending upwards. Both are very popular still. (with the retro geeks) One of the best oldies to hold onto are the first Apple II computers. (not the IIe variant) They are selling on ebay for ~$2000+.
  4. All the packages have been mailed. There's three that I'm missing the stage 2 total from so you have a pm from me if that's the case. You're all welcome and I hope you have enough to keep you busy for a few months
  5. HD800 Hard Case I carry my 800's to studios sometimes and I didn't want to just throw them in a backpack. I found a cheap case on eBay ($28.80) and got it the other day. It not like a flight case or anything but I think the headphones would survive anything short of someone sitting or stomping on the case. It's about as compact as possible which is a big plus too. So, if you need something like this, it's well worth the money IMHO. http://www.ebay.com/itm/261621007693?rmvSB=true Oh yeah,.. Free shipping from China to US west coast took ten days.
  6. Gee, the thought never entered my mind.
  7. Picked one up mostly due to an interesting feature set. I've had good experience with RME gear being technically impeccable, but falling a bit short in listening tests. The ADI-2 Pro was intended to be an office rig, but I lug it to and fro work, it's that good. Ended up buying one of the limited Anniversary Editions, cuz it's black and has moar pretty. It runs my HD800 balanced with 6x OPA1688 chips pre channel. Sounds as good or better as I've heard any HD800 perform. It also does 5 band PEQ which makes HD800's actually listenable. For my Equator Q12 I use the back XLR's and intend to hook up a MiniDSP via optical to integrate two custom 15" subs. Anyho - check this thing out, if you're looking for an interesting source unit. Cheerio. P.S. Nudie (almost Gilmore sized)
  8. Monochrome green or amber if I remember correctly (the PET, that is. maybe the apple was colour?). We had one in my grade school library in the late 70s or early 80s - looked cool, but no one knew what to do with it. The look always reminds me of the movie "War Games".
  9. really cool! I shouldn't have thrown out my C64, or Atari 800
  10. Sadly, that looks to have aged much better than myself. I was 15, and a skinny, little magician on the dance floor. Good luck with what seems to be a very cool project!
  11. I must have missed this. Never heard of them. They're from Wasilla, AK., about 40 miles North of my home town of Anchorage. That's Sarah Palin country, but I won't hold that against them.
  12. round tables seems like a really bad idea to me

  14. Thank you! it looks fantastic, I've just ordered one, it's going to come handy for the on-call shifts and vacation trips. The modded HD800 with a Pico Power or even the normal with DAC one make for an awesome portable rig.
  15. Looks like there's an HRT Music Streamer Pro available from HRT thru Amazon for $200: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0038O150O/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new

  17. All but 5 have been posted. You should have the tracking number in your email. They'll hit the post office tomorrow.
  18. Well wildest of coincidences, it just so happens our house guest is the Russian Rio Olympic fencing coach. What a small world, who knew? Our guest will be staying with us for the next three months through the summer nationals so I guess we will be spending a lot of time talking about American BBQ, American wine and fencing. Life is full of surprises.
  19. Tricky – Pre-Millenium Tension I'm not sure if anything he's done since this one has reached the same heights (or lows, depending on your mood)...
  20. Good build, and it has the right amount and type of output sockets......
  21. That's awesome I've really got to get over my fear of SMD
  22. Here's a new layout I'm working on. It's a GR HV/LV, Bias and Delay circuit (with LED flasher) all on one 4 layer board (3.5" x 5.5"). The pass devices can mount to the bottom plate or a heatsink. Mostly SMD parts and uses the GR78/9xx modules. Once tested I'll make this all available.

  25. yep that is the idea over the weekend i replaced the 1.5k resistors with 2k original vishay resistors rated at .01% and 5 ppm voltages much more accurate. version 5 of the goldenreference board has a place for 1M pots that go in parallel with these resistors for those that just absolutely need to adjust to 6 places (actually those pots may influence overall thermal stability, cermet pots required)
  26. For my own benefit and possibly others, can someone confirm or correct the following: The regulated output voltage is: for V+: ((R8 + R7) / R7) x 10 (reference voltage of D5 - LT1021-10) for V-: ((R9 + R10) / R10) x 10 (reference voltage of D7 - LT1021-10) On the goldenreference4 board silkscreen, R7, R8, R9 R10 are all 1.5K. R7 and R8 are connected and R9 and R10 are connected. R8 and R9 are the 1.5K resistors closer to the DN2540 on each side of the board. Thanks!
  27. it's an error, not connected to anything. Got mine done and running. A few things missed in BOM: 512-KSP42TA 4 512-KSP92BU 4 512-1N914 4 821-1N4007 2
  28. Sharing my findings with attempts to raise output BJT current as promised. I am running +/- 16V rails. Using 255R in R38 and R39, I got around 186mv voltage drop on the output resistors (20R) when the amp is fully warmed up (160mV at cold start). That's around 9mA current. I could barely feel a temprature on the output transistors at this operating condition. I finally settled on 301R in R38 and R39 which results in 250mV across the output resistors at cold start, rising to and stablize at 320mV after a few minutes. The output BJTs are quite warm to the touch but not hot. I am really liking the sound of the amp at this condition. For what it's worth, here is a few other values of R38 and R39 I tried and the resulting voltage drop across the output resistors: R38/R39 = 287R, 230mV cold start, 273mV warmed up R38/R39 = 317R, 300mV cold start, 360mV warmed up R38/R39 = 402R, 500mV cold start, did not wait for it to warm up. This amp really sounds great on both my Senn. HD650 and LCD2. Subjectively the best among the headphone amps I own and heard. Many thanks Kevin for your ingenuity and help!
