So, after a 6 hour slow cook, decent results for a first try. I had to mess with temp quite a bit, and eventually removed the TTT and continued with just the slow n sear. We also discovered that St. Louis ribs may not have been the best choice. But in the end we had good bark, a decent smoke ring and smoke flavor. Not a bad first outing. At long last, I cased my KGSSHV - my first foray into Kevin's Wonderful World of DIY ES Headphone Amps. Although its glory has been over-shadowed by the HV Carbon and the Grounded Grid alike, the KGSSHV is really a damned fine sounding amp in its own right to my ears especially when set up to run at higher output current. There are many versions of KGSSHV out there starting from the on-board heatsink version that runs around 5mA output current to the later off-board versions. This one runs at a toasty 15mA and raised VAS current and is powered by the same GRHV/GRLV universal PSU I use also for my Carbon, Blue Hawaii and Grounded Grid.5 points

Crack & Cheese paired very nicely with Makers Mark. No left overs. Difficult to compete with Yak and Alpaca My first ever brisket, a flat. Good bark, nice smoke ring, bursting with flavor, pulled apart perfectly but was a bit dry. Most likely the meat. I haven't grilled since we switched from charcoal to propane. Back at it with the pellet pooper. I'm having fun and some success.3 points

Signed up for SONY Playstation Vue to hopefully replace Dish Network for our TV viewing pleasure. Dish has gone to hell with their latest software update, and frankly their cost is pretty insane. PS Vue is less than half the price, and we get 90% of our normally watched channels including local CBS, ABC, NBC and Fox channels. Unlimited cloud DVR with 28 day show retention. We're running it on a Gen 4 Apple TV downstairs and an Amazon Fire TV in the bedroom. The guide is weird, but we'll get used to it. We are on a 5 day free trial so we'll see how it goes.2 points

Recieved my Eitr today and put it in my system: Mac Mini/Audirvana > Monoprice USB > Eitr > BJC Belden SPDIF coax > Yggy > DIY balanced solid Silver/Gold alloy ICs > KGST. Previously using Mac Mini/Audirvana >WiFi > Airport Express > Lifatek glass Toslink > Yggy > DIY balanced solid Silver/Gold alloy ICs > KGST First impressions, lots of detail, a little fatiguing, accentuating the sharpness of the SR-009, and a loss in low frequency weight and dynamics. The AE had more natural sounding high frequencies, and overall sounded more liquid, dynamic and "analog", with a slight loss in resolution -listenable for hours. Swapped out the BJC Belden SPDIF cable for a Monocable analog RCA one, and the drop off in the lower range was worse. But the mids were a bit obscured to where they were not as fatiguing. In my system, seems that the Eitr has the possibility of cleaning up the USB feed, but might be hindered by SPDIF coax cable quality. I'll play the Eitr 24-7 for a few days and swap some more cables. But I suspect the best sound with a Yggy will be with an internal Gen 5, and no SPDIF connection to worry about.2 points

First run with the Weber, Slow n Sear and tip top temp. St. Louis ribs seemed a safe choice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

They keep polishing that circuit. Funny to see if move from SRM-1 Mk2 to SRM-3 to 313 to 323 etc...1 point

Next day follow up after an 18 hour run in. The Eitr has relaxed and the fatiguing edge is gone. Bass has fleshed out and the highs are natural. The clarity and tonality is startling. On quick A-B USB-Toslink input selection comparisons between the Eitr and the AE, the AE now sounds more processed (Velveeta like) and the Eitr has just a more natural "there" there. Not an absolute repeatable endorsement of what others may hear, but only my thoughts relative to the cheap shit alternatives I've tried. I'll be buying the Gen 5 to install in my Yggy when available. Keeping the Eitr to use wth my iPhone at work to stream uncompressed Tidal to my system there.1 point

I don't use a preamp. My DAC has a digital volume control and it feeds the headphone amps directly.1 point

I'm as big a bleeding heart liberal as they come (some socialist tendencies even) but I can't help but respect and even love McCain! They don't make em like that anymore. Get well soon god damnit!1 point

I've been "sampling" the streaming services since the Airbnb I'm at for 2 months doesn't have a tv. The dsl connection is terrible so I'm getting a good taste of what it's like with the worst connection possible ( how about 12.82Mbps down and .75 up for stone age!). So far, I've just done the free week of Sling blue and now I'm on the $35 plan with DirectTV Now. DirectTV Now is very good so far. Even though they don't have the kind of backlog that's good for binger's like me, the networks allow you to watch their libraries by logging in as a DirectTV Now member. Tomorrow I'll start checking out Vue. BTW, I made the mistake of buying a new piano sample library since it was on sale. The download was about 20G. Thank god the company has a nice download manager since the download got interrupted 3 times.1 point

I second Grahame's suggestions and also loved "Man in the High Tower". I discontinued Netflix for 6 months and didn't miss it a bit while I watched a lot of Amazon programming.1 point

The Night Manager with Tom Hiddlestone and Hugh Laurie. Well acted (big surprise!), pacing is somewhat leisurely. Only connection we have right now is Amazon Prime Video, it's interesting to see what they do have.1 point

No no no, I specified foot-ball not hand-egg. It does not appear to me as if any of those large and rather oddly-attired gentlemen are planning to address the nominal orb with any appendage below waist level?1 point

Back when I did meat, I always liked to do St. Louis ribs in the oven, at very low temp. Looks good to me, though, Mike.1 point

one comment about the tubes, have tried many tubes on testbench, 12au7,12ax7,12at7,7308 etc you need a mu of at least 33 and a transconductance of at least 125001 point

I wanted to compare the dual input tubes (like in the T2) against the single. I'd build the dual first first though.1 point

I bought an HC-approved car three years ago (MKVI GTI) and have not regretted it for a moment. Just sprung for an HC-approved TV (55" C6) and absolutely love it. I know the B6 is far more popular, but I dig the curve and it suits my space well. Thanks for the great advice again, hive mind. We are all terribly flawed as individuals, but as a group we are perfect. Also, side note, I live in Virginia again.1 point

I asked ABC to take a picture of the inside of the case back, as I was never able to get the damned thing open. The chrono paperwork shows a test date mid-December, '68, so Rolex was pumping them out as quickly as they were selling to dealers, back then. I thought this crowd might like the picture, especially given that it has marks from when watchmakers still marked case backs.1 point

Well done Les, I agree Paul’s transformers are very stable and well made. Before I get all carbonated, due to sudden parts saturation (thanks wink), I have another old school KGSSHV on the bench... it’s a beast compared to the mini I made a month or so ago, running a toasty 14mA.1 point

Belated well done, Nate! I'm waiting for the replies like" Well, Audio-GD does xxxx technology and it costs 1/3 the price....." The ECP equipment exudes style, and deep care in design, parts, and function. That is clearly evident in the review, and on the web site.1 point
