  1. So just an update re. my 009 problems. Sent back to Stax, huge respect to them for the turn around time. Received back today as new, working perfectly with my superb Mjolnir KGSShv Carbon. I'm back to where I want to be.

  4. Here's a factoid. NAD is an acronym for New Acoustic Dimension.

  6. Nils Frahm - spaces (VMP) I don't really do the ambient/electronic thing but this guy is really good. Beautiful piano playing but the way he breaks up classics form electronically is impressive.

  7. I see. I'll look for that tune and see what he's doing. For your explanation I think I can understand why my teacher advised me to pay him a listen. That circling around and keeping the music unresolved, leading it to resolve wherever you want it to, is what he's getting me into.

  8. True HC style then we'd be talking about an Accuphase E-600...

  9. I feel as though this thread lacks activity, therefore doing my part. His and Her Dry Aged Top Sirloin headed for the grill in 20 or so.

  10. Nope. The "oid" at the back of the word denotes that it's pseudo. Shel, the NAD M2 is brilliant, so I can't imagine that even newer NAD digital amplifiers won't be as well.

  11. Since a factoid is something that looks like a fact but isn’t verifiably true, does that mean it’s really “No AD” like the rumor used to be

  12. Been looking at NAD's digital amps for a long time for secondary (living room) rig, whenever I get around to it. The 3020 or 7050 would be main candidates for a low-powered bookshelf rig.

  13. Turns out that this particular hug dog can look like anything on the spectrum of pug-like through to siberian husky http://www.101dogbreeds.com/hug-dog.asp . It brings up the slightly bizarre notion of a husky getting it on with a pug. You probably have to put the pug on a chair first to get over the height difference There are equally bizarre husky cross breeds on the same page - like the chusky with a chow.

  14. NAD make good shit. I'd say if it was something you'd be interested in, it's probably worth trying sight unseen (or rather, sound signature unheard). What speakers were you thinking of pairing them with, the Cicadas?

  15. Evidently I was paying too much attention to Ric and my teeth and my cousin Harvey got mad and is coming for me at full strength.

  16. Maybe they sell a cigar fridge that you can put wine in? Those are New-Air. They are quiet and very cheap to run. I plan on expanding with more... maybe even some with wine in them.

  17. How did it go Shelly? I had one done last year - one hour for emergency treatment and two two-hour sessions. For me it was an amazing non-event other than the amount of time in the chair and the traumatic extraction from my wallet.

  18. Speedy back on its way. It was dried out, a small amount of rust was removed, it was timed and regulated, and the waterproofing issue has been addressed.

  19. the ones with the evaporator on the back of the unit typically last only a few years when you build them in, because there is no place to get rid of the heat generated. then the compressor burns up, and no way to fix it.

  20. Was pleasantly surprised to find out I was the only hire given an office (corner one to boot) to myself. Other folks were given larger rooms with better views but have to share the space with other new professors. Between all the meetings over the last 6 days, I finally had a chance to sit in a room that was a real office of my own - I had one in grad school but that doesn't really count. I get to have business cards with my name on them. I get to have my name next to the door outside. As silly as it sounds, it was those things I secretly have been chasing and wishing for all my life. Today, I officially started/continued my journey in academia as an associate professor of mathematics and an assistant professor of medicine as a dual appointment. My work schedule for the fall semester is close to 100+ hours a week between all the obligations but man am I looking forward to it all. Can't remember the last time I was ever this excited. I'm beyond exhausted from moving into the new space in 96 F weather but I'm happy. Today was a good day. Even my mom asking when I was going to get an MBA didn't ruin my mood I think I'm done with school. At least for a little while.
