  1. Roasted a 2 lb prime rib and ate it. No grilling allowed at the moment due to horrible air quality from the wildfires. Turned out fine.
  2. Brent reminded me that I suck and don't come here very often. Thanks all for well wishes and especially Brent for the reminder to check. Work is going well but very hectic and I just don't have as much time to look at the web or even listen to my office rig as I used to. I'm up for a promotion which would change my job to more consistent tasks and less hectic but I doubt I'll get it. Had a good birthday, family and fishing isn't a bad way to spend a day

a new baby GG is born! a fantastic build by Soren, thank you!!
  4. Tried a new quiche recipe last night, spinach and bacon with swiss. It was quite good according to 3/4 family members. Andrew is not a fan of eggs so unsurprisingly he was not a huge fan and just picked out the bacon. Smart kid.
  5. I finally broke down and put my "temporary" acrylic front plate on my carbon build... I finished the boards almost 9 months ago and have been waiting for access to a cnc or mill to make the front and back plates. After waiting for so long, I finally bolted the acrylic plates that I had originally made just to size and verify the positions of the components... The amp sounds pretty darn awesome, even with the uncased DIY drivers I had made... Loud enough at 12 O'Clock position to fill a small room with very transparent, noise-free music... Definitely enough to blow out what's left of my eardrums. It'll probably be a while before I can get the permanent, aluminum front and back panels made.

Following many tips today (at least #'s 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, and always #10). Bacon wrapped cream cheese stuffed jalepenos.
  8. In the Paris rain, May 1961, JFK and de Gaulle honor soldiers who gave their lives. "Patriotism is when love of your own people comes first; nationalism, when hate for people other than your own comes first." - Charles de Gaulle
  9. Have also reread a bunch of William Gibson since you posted Count Zero in September, and sincerely thank you for it! This, naturally, led to some Neal Stephenson as well. Currently on Seveneves -- which may be an over-reach.
  10. Pattern Recognition by William Gibson Unlike the Sprawl and Bridge trilogies, this is the first time I've re-read Pattern Recognition. I like it a lot more now, I think, than when I first read it in hardcover from the library. The characters, settings, and plot make more sense to me now than when I read it the first time. He's definitely become more sophisticated in his development of the branding-sensitive protagonist, Cayce Pollard, and his exploration of culture, marketing, fashion, and art (in this case, film theory). The other interesting thing is that this is now a "historical" novel and it withstands the test of time. The protagonists in the preceding novels of the Bridge Trilogy (Virtual Light, Idoru, and All Tomorrow's Parties) are young people, whereas the characters in Pattern Recognition are all adults. The change in perspective is interesting – I think it's harder to write convincing adult characters (that aren't copies of the writer) because they require more imagination and context. Some of the attitudes in the novel seem dated, but they merely remind us of how much the world has changed since 2002. You can see in the cover images below that the designers had trouble conceptualizing his ideas (my copy is the upper-left version).
  11. Sushi, Ramen ugh, I ate too much
  12. Happy Birthday! Ignore the incorrect tag, the baker was drunk.

I was going to make Mattnog at my friend’s place, but then we tasted this stuff.
  15. Thanks. Starting to feel like I have some mental bandwidth again, even if the kid still won't sleep.
  16. I love love love seveneves and pattern recognition.
  17. I started Seveneves about 2 years ago with a library copy, but I didn't get very far into the book at the time (stopped just before the hard rain starts). Reviews have been a bit mixed but I'll get back to finishing it soon... usually, I wait until the mass-market edition is released to purchase the book. The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O. was a huge disappointment. It was still fun to read, but a lot of the ideas went nowhere and the characters felt a bit generic. On the other hand, I loved REAMDE, even though it probably has a ton of flaws. The mix of action, fantasy role-playing computer games, and interesting settings was right up my alley.

  19. I'd been waiting for this to come out for a while now, and it came out yesterday. Obsessed... Kælan Mikla - Nótt eftir nótt I know, recency bias and all that, but probably the front-runner for my favorite album of the year.
  20. Now, honoring Peter's comment Beautiful start. It's on Tidal, as usual. Waiting for the Boca Juniors vs River Plate match to start, delayed because of the rain. It's been suspended due to heavy rain. Serious (roundball) football
  21. Russ Gabriel's bedroom studio. CP-Mew.
  22. Something I noticed in the mini BOM was that the power switch listed (8161SH9AV2BE2) isn't rated for AC power duty. Instead, use either the "G" or "Q", which are both rated for 120/250VAC. Use 8161SH9AV2GE2 or 8161SH9AV2QE2 instead. Mouser stocks the "Q".
  23. hangin' out with Michael Fremer...Frems, as I call him...in Indianapolis...taking crappy pics...listening to great recordings...

There was just under two inches of separation tonight when I got home from work, gave it a good shake.. (and fuck you matt, you are still missed)
  25. I just invited CGAW to Thanksgiving.
  26. A classic álbum (Vinyl re-edition ) with my Square Wave and HD800:
  27. Egad, did you post that ironically? I got about 18 seconds in before I said, 'goodbye'. I usually enjoy what you post, but this was just too commercial for me. Did I post this already? I thought I did. I love the laid back sensual groove, and the video fits it perfectly, and the women certainly aren't difficult to watch:
  28. Crispy short rib with a cheesy view.
  29. Cheese and Biscuits ... Bacon Wrapped, Goats Cheese Stuffed Dates
  30. What the fuck kind of books are you guys reading that require study guides and devoting years of your lives to? I am reading Russka by Edward Rutherford and I have not had to hire a support staff to get me through it.
  31. Dig the song. The video could use some work.
  32. Warning the following is kind of horrifying. It shows burned corpses.

Not sure if there are other Throbbing Gristle fans here, but there is a NYT article on Genesis P-Orridge and her declining health.
