  1. It's finished! Colossus is back in action, and better than ever. I certainly spent more time tweaking this time around. I think it paid off. I have the Hudson HI-FI Bigfeet between the stand base and top, then new isolation feet on the Colossus and I added more shot inside the plinth. It's sounding really full with great bass. Lots more listening to do!
  2. So, here is the other side of the wall behind the TV - putting a receiver in a garage is either genius or the worst idea ever. I got a nice cover for it to attempt to keep it somewhat clean, but time will tell. Got the wiring as tidy as I could. with eARC I donโ€™t think I really will need a remote. I am using two wires from an Ethernet run for a 12v trigger to switch over subs to HT duty and could use another pair to run an IR blaster if needed. there is a plate that can be installed on the Arlington box but I am not sure how I would get the wires out. I do imagine this will be a good source of A/C leaks during the summer time but not sure what I can do to make it any better than what I have. ... plus there is room for a garage turntable!

i have a pair of 801 mk 3 that i still use as television speakers. with the arcici stands. in black. and the B&W bass alignment active filter somewhere.
  4. Seems wise to wait. Me: Had epic fun mountain biking with some friends yesterday afternoon after bailing on work (was supposed to be off all day but...) with near perfect fall riding conditions - sunshine, 50F, light winds. We got out for a solid two hours of punishment in the local boulder field that has some pretty amazing features, most of which I actually rode. Today: will largely be spent watching it rain/snow. It's been raining hard for the last two hours already and is just getting started (allegedly). The weather people have played their 2020 cards and are claiming we could get between 2 and 12" of snow as it changes over this afternoon. Given that we're still in near-drought conditions it's good to see precipitation of any kind but sucks to go from dried up death to flash flood warnings. Buckle up buttercup, the year from hell isn't over yet...

They have to be B&W speakers - the pod on the top with the kevlar midrange started off in the 801 back in 1980. I used to lust after those so badly it almost hurt. Forty years ago now, and they are still drop dead gorgeous. And I'd still like a pair - just because...
  6. It's really nice having the Colossus back home. It's like one of my children. I loved the time I spent designing and building her, and my collaboration with Marc. I definitely couldn't have completed the project without him. And again, a big shout out to Naaman for reuniting me with Colossus!
  7. Nice job Marc! I'm now done with my latest project. Building two turntable stands back to back, I learned a few things. One, was that I'd like a second shelf above the record storage shelf, accomplished. Two, is that I'd like some kind of stop to keep the records from pushing in too far on the shelf, accomplished. I used Amber shellac on the base to try to get that golden tone of the Burled Maple top of the Colossus. Worked well, and it also provides a complimentary warm tone next to the Cherry of the Parasound tower and speakers. I also like the dark top with the Colossus.
  8. Looks great. Rip blade probably cuts faster but leaves more pronounced tool marks to clean up, standard blade is more likely to burn.
  9. So I got the toy box put together and got all the dominoes installed. Decided to take a break before changing blades to cut the 1/2โ€ strips of Purple Heart for the edge facing. Not sure if 28 tooth or the 9 tooth panther blade is going to be used to cut these.
  10. Finished my Arduino based DAC controller
  11. Did you ever think about inviting Brent up to try out that mountain bike trail? It would make for some spectacular video me thinks.

I just cancelled my m1 MacBook Pro order because after upgrading my desktop to an i9-9900k with 32gb, it can handle 171 tracks on the logic benchmark, so I can wait a while longer before upgrading my laptop.
  14. Debated on where to put this seeing as it is not scratch made dough, but figured it was bread based so this is where it landed. I had a leftover loaf of white bread and wanted French toast but did not want to deal with the hassle of making it piece by piece. The solution (which arguably was more work, but whatever...) was to make a casserole. It's a pretty standard recipe - eggs, milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla poured over cubed bread. The topping is just flour, more brown sugar, more cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg, and cut with cold butter. Bake for an hour and voilร , breakfast.
  15. I thought you were building another garage?
  16. If you want Christmas without the normal schtick: very creative arrangements and if youโ€™re familiar with Elling, his vocal styling is in a class of its own.

  18. Looks totally awesome! I've always thought that audiophiles would do much better to find a local(ish) craftsman to build their stands to order than to spend the outrageous sums the guys touted by the magazines demand.

living on the wild side... i teaspooned some Laphroaig into a sampling of this yearโ€™s batch (now 11 days in). honestly? tastes great. just a trace of the smoke and it adds some more rich, earthy stuff in the taste that is totally unique. all bow down to the PEAT NOG
  20. It's that time again... Separated the point from the flat so that I could do burnt ends tomorrow night from the point. Flat will be split across both nights since untrimmed this was a 14lb monster (not converting to kilos). I'd bet that I trimmed a good 4-5lbs of fat off of it.

Yeah, I wouldnโ€™t feel too bad about TC Electronic or TC Helicon, they were bought by the parent company, but have their own business practices, and are for all practical purposes, decoupled from Behringer. Their pedals and bass amplifier gear are ace, for example, developed by the companyโ€™s in-house R&D department.
  22. Great race. I'm sorry for Russell, but I'm so so so happy for Checo If McLaren had been a little bit more clever reading the race and had gone to just one stop... Bottas definitely isn't Mercedes worth.
  23. Not setting up a furniture shop, just building a couple of boxes.

  25. Ended up giving up on the stupid jig saw and used a hand saw to finish the cuts as best as I could. The jig saw has such tight tolerances it is difficult just to get it prepped to function. I think it is like most Festool and massively tight out of the box and only easy to use after many hours of use. I think it will live in its box from now on as it is not worth all the hassle. The Domino is awesome and the first tool that I have gotten the fucking power cord to actually lock.

The San Francisco Symphonyโ€™s โ€œDeck the Hallโ€ Convert will be broadcast today and will be available free online for anyone wanting to get in the spirit. https://www.sfsymphony.org/Watch-and-listen/Events/Deck-the-Hall The orchestraโ€™s annual โ€œDeck the Hallโ€ concert has been downsized to 16 instrumentalists (and one accordionist), 12 choristers (plus the San Francisco Boys Choir), and no live audience members. Conducted by Daniel Stewart, hosted by Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser, and narrated by Raj Mathai.
  28. The M1 Macs are too new and plenty of software has yet to made compatible with Big Sur, so we can only make educated guesses where 8G of ram might be a bottleneck. For now, I'd advise early adopters to max ram. It could make a huge difference in resale value if it turns out 8G is a real issue.

Ha, I mostly just want something fun that makes me want to sing. Distortion, filter, and modulation effects would be more important than pitch correct and harmonizer, although I would probably experiment with using pitch corrected voice as an oscillator source. I know it's GAS, but I also know I'd use it. I guess I don't have questions, I like the way the Roland looks unless someone says don't get it.
  30. Is body surfing at all similar to regular surfing? I know that the bigger the board, the easier to surf, so just wondering if that translates, 'cause I could be epic! Oh, and we could absolutely use some Super Brent Osborn videos about now!!!
  31. I just finished a snack and now I am going body surfing. Ah, maybe I will wait
  32. Got the motor pod riser built today. Just need to get it clear coated. Everything else is done. Put some new shoes on the Colossus.
  33. upgraded my hackintosh to i9/9900k with tb3 That was something of a nightmare. And it's not entirely working. But it's more functional than it was before, just the thunderbolt stuff is weird.
  34. Aligned up my fence. Close enough for me. Put together a cross cut sled. Square to .00022 per inch.

  40. The water temperature was 59 degrees so there is that.
  41. Went to go pull out of the driveway this morning, and was greeted by a horrible sensation from my cars front end. One of the tires had gone flat and even unseated itself from the rim. I was overdue for new tires anyways, so I have an appointment tomorrow to get them taken care of. Fortunately the donut spare seems fine, so I can make it there without much hassle.
