Interested in this. A HD650 with more sub-bass.

I'd be more interested in an HD600 with more definition, less distortion and reaching lower frequencies. I don't think such thing as sub-bass even exists.

I may be a basshead, but I'm not a dumb-bass, so I will await reviews and/or measurements.  I doubt I'm interested either way, I have neither a HD600 nor a HD650 in my collection.

Maybe Sennheiser decided that they rather produce their own "HD650 on steroid" that many have been wanting.

The cable plugs on the headphone side look similar to those on the HD650. It would be nice that the aftermarket cables many have invested on can be also used for the new headphone.

Looks like the 5 contacts arrangement, instead of 4, is to allow it to be used for both single-ended and balanced amps. I wonder what kind of risk it incurs when plugging and unplugging from an energized headphone amp? 

That connector is a balanced connector only.  It's very compacted and is gaining popularity compared to 3.5 and 2.5 mm balanced jack.  I use that Pentaconn connector with my Sony NW-WM1Z and TA-ZH1ES amp.

5 contacts will allow for single ended use as well if the amp can handle it. 

Don't understand the rationale of going through the trouble to develop a 5-pin TRS connector when a 5-pin XLR connector would have serve the job better and is readily available.   

I guess one of the rationale is the pentacon connector can be made to be backward compatible with a typical 3-pin TRS connection.

It isn't but one can make silly expensive adapters.

I missed that it's a 4.4mm so not even backwards compatible. Sigh!

Once everyone adapts 4.4mm, then everyone is backwards compatible, both single ended and balanced. See how that works? See all of the high quality and inexpensive connectors out there?

Better to use XLR, no issue with shorting outputs when plugging in too.
