January 20, 201214 yr Weird. We haven't had hardly any snow. Mountains are still brown in some places. Missoula got dumped on, but it went right around us. Friggen weird winter this year. This. We've had next to none this year. There's 1-2" in the forecast tonight, which is worthless.
January 20, 201214 yr Author This. We've had next to none this year. There's 1-2" in the forecast tonight, which is worthless. x2, and I don't even ski/snowboard/insert your favorite snow sport.
January 20, 201214 yr My next door neighbors, family of five, this is the first year they decided to buy ski passes. They're crying.
January 20, 201214 yr This. We've had next to none this year. There's 1-2" in the forecast tonight, which is worthless. Temperature wise this winter has been pretty mild as well. I'm pleased my Civic handles itself much better in the snow than the Nissan Sentra ever could.
January 20, 201214 yr I imagine this will be all we get this year. One good blast, then it's over like usual. Meh.
January 20, 201214 yr After two pretty hard winters here in the UK (we're talking maybe a week of deep snow, and maybe -10C) this one is crazy mild. It is 11C at the moment. Not one single flake of snow this winter. That will remain the case unless the saline pump just off the arctic doesn't fail. Drives warm water from South America and the Carribbean to wash our Western shore, and stops us getting too cold. If/when it fails, we'll be the same temperature as places on the same latitude like Calgary and Irkutsk, and we'll freeze our nuts off - our homes aren't built to cope with those conditions.
January 20, 201214 yr The last two winters here, in Latvia were really good (natural) as well with lots of snow for three months and temperatures occasionally below -20°C. This winter is a joke. We just had our first major snow and now after three days it's melting off. Instead we are getting very high winds. I guess that we'll save money on heating and road maintenance.
January 20, 201214 yr I'm happy we're having a mild winter because with my son here we now have to keep the house a lot warmer than we used to and the gas/electric bills are already up a ton. I also like being able to ride all the time (not that I have been because of a RSV virus infection)
January 20, 201214 yr We had some melt and refreeze yesterday. News last night had lots of trees down, including on the major highways. The power company estimated a quarter million without power. In spite of all that, my company is somehow open today so I get to hike to the bus stop again. Whee.
January 22, 201214 yr We've had an unusually warm winter recently, with no New Year's snow. However the forecast is saying it going to get down to freezing temperatures from tomorrow. At least we haven't had the threatening snow clouds we had early in December, yet. Thankfully things don't fall apart with snow, except if there is a lot of it and the trains and highways shut down, then it's impossible to drive anywhere.
January 22, 201214 yr It fucking rained all day here yesterday. I don't think I've seen rain in January here in Montana in the 25 years I've lived here.
January 22, 201214 yr Author We only got ~3" yesterday and that's the most we've got in a day since the storm in October. Oh, and it'll be back in low 50's to high 40's come Monday and Tuesday.
January 23, 201214 yr We only got ~3" yesterday What is something Steve's boyfriend would never say, for $400 Alex.
February 6, 201214 yr For those missing the snow... well, ice... Lake Geneva in Versoix, Switzerland on Feb. 5. Edited February 7, 201214 yr by blessingx
February 29, 201214 yr Author So it's actually snowing for a change in my neck of the woods. Let's see if we get anywhere near what they're predicting.
February 29, 201214 yr Figured one of us MA locals would bring this back. Came home early today, it was a wasted effort to leave early but allowed me to get things done in peace and quiet. So far (as of 6pm EST), very little if any accumulation on roads, all melting. Expect that to change at night. My son is hoping, praying, begging some unknown deity for no school tomorrow.
March 1, 201214 yr Author My son is hoping, praying, begging some unknown deity for no school tomorrow. A snow day, unfortunately, means means nothing to me since I don't get them (damn, private residential year-round school), though my wife would (she teaches in public school). Speaking of snow, I saw more than few cars on my morning commute today packed with ski/snowboard gears heading north. I wonder how many folks called-in for impromptu days off to take advantage of real snow. Edited March 1, 201214 yr by Salt Peanuts
March 1, 201214 yr So the Massholes had the same idea as me which will unfortunately never be a reality for me
March 1, 201214 yr Yesterday, I did a motorcycle ride on the ridge road in the hills (3200') behind Santa Barbara. It was cold here in SB the night before and we got a little rain. Still, I was very surprised to see some snow on the north-facing slopes along along the way. I was about 40 during the ride and a balmy 60 back in SB.
