Tim Apple is no Jobs.  Joke from 25 years ago:

What's the difference between Microsoft and Apple?

Some people actually like the megalomaniacal asshole who runs Apple.

Via Flickr, two fun bits of history:

Edit: Anyone know what is that rectangular thing to the left of the Lisa?   Behind the "bar of soap" mouse.  I think it might be a software box.

It might be a binder of Apple printed documentation for the Lisa.

That's wild, as it uses a white Apple logo some 15 years before it became the company standard.

I forgot about the Apple event today, but the camera changes, including combined cameras and square front facing sensor, are interesting moves. Also liquid cooling. Plus if you thought iPhones were too fat...

Nothing looked bad... the iPhone Air looks questionable, but I can foresee influencers showing them off in a few weeks.

Apple has moved into making their own wireless network and modem chips, the N1 for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread and the C1X for 5G cellular.

I liked the sound of better battery life in the iPhone 17 and the AirPods Pro 3 will be hot sellers. I found the endless health surveillance and monitoring from the Apple Watches a bit dystopian.

The iPhone 16e seems to be a sales success due to its low price, so they'll inevitably release an update to that in a while.

Because I am impatient, I installed the iOS/ipad release candidates. After spending a day with them, I think two things:

1) Apple’s decision to re-write the entire design language is going to make this their most polarizing in a long time,

2) I think they nailed it. I was hesitant, but after a day I can't see ever wanting to go back.

Installed IPad OS 26 yesterday. I was expecting more and better. There are some improvements that I like, but things that are keeping my iPad Pro to behave as an OsX Mac aren’t there yet.

"Never trust a computer you can't lift."  Steve Jobs died 14 years ago today.  At the time I tweeted (ya rly) "The Reality Distortion Field is now off."

It’s a shame he killed himself by going full MAHA and thinking an all-fruit diet would cure his cancer.

The Reality Distortion Field had its limits.

Hoisted on his own petard, to be sure, but he is missed.

Something I just learned that others might already know:  Apple removed the secure erase function from Disk Utility because users where "damaging their SSDs."  Something, you know, a warning popup might have solved.  Now one has to go through Terminal to accomplish the same thing.  I mention this now because I'm finally decommissioning some external HDDs from the early 2010s.

Brief update on this issue: To securely wipe an HDD, it's necessary to do one pass with Disk Utility first, then make use of the Terminal command.  This is because Terminal itself can't unmount a disk.  Also, in possibly related news I have a stack of six HDDs to donate to the local second hand shop.

Just for future info:

The New AirPods Pro 3 are night-and-day better than the previous generation in sound, fit and seal (for me).

Absolute no brainer upgrade.

Lukewarm take: None of them will be missed.

This is an interesting take.

Hope you are right but it seems like there is a massive brain drain going on as the game of thrones is happening to see who will be the next Tim Apple.

People who are out of the game appear to be starting to jump ship.
