After many, many years with BAT/Avid/SME YG Acoustics systems this is what my wife and I have spent the last year building for listening to records through. VPI HR-X w/12.7 arm, and VPI ADS power supp

The horror, the horror. Basically this is the final Erno Borbely design. It is a current mode phono stage, where the cartridge looks into close to zero impedance. First stage with parallel J40/K170, a

No, bad! Send it to me. I'll get into vinyl for you. You can be into vinyl vicariously.

audiophilia is a disease :)

Tubes & Harbeths are the cure.

Damn, so this my problem. I need to revise my 2010 goals :)

I hate when that happens,I have a vpi scout sitting in the box ,I am going to get my feet wet & get back into vinyl .

Get ready, before long you will be overrun by thousands of records, and no where to put them.

I bought a Sony PS-X40 with a Shure M95-HE cartridge off of eBay for $59.

I just unboxed it and hooked it up to my Hagerman Bugle preamp and into the Equilibrato, and it is shockingly good:o! I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. It is not the last word in detail and the highs are rolled off slightly, but it sounds pretty darn good for the money.

I thought I would just toss the cart and replace it with something better. But I think I will keep this setup for a while. :D

Sweet deal Steve! Have fun spinning. :)

Thanks Al, I'm sure it doesn't even come close to your vinyl rig, but I have some nice vinyl to spin, so I'm happy.

Nice find Steve! Enjoy!

Had lunch with 909, Augsburger and Guzziguy today. I borrowed 909s Denon DL-110 cartridge, if I can find a decent phono preamp to go with it, this may replace the Shure cart that is on the Sony right now.

Also dropped off my music hall mmf-5 to replace the Shure M97Xe with a Audio Technica 440MLa. I hope with the cartridge change and if he can setup the turntable properly, it will sound a lot better, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Nice find Steve! Enjoy!

Thanks, I am enjoying it.

I also sent my AD2000, K701 and Equinox cable to Scott to be recabled / reterminated with 4 pin XLR, so I can enjoy them balanced.

the DL-110 sounds best with a 1K load and the gain set somewhere around 40 to 50 db depending on the set-up. iirc, the pass pearl doesn't have dip switches.

Loading is adjustable on the Pearl by swapping a socketed resistor. The one I have is set up to be either 100 ohm or 47K right now, but a 1K resistor could be substituted instead.

Steve,

If I may make a suggestion, talk to Stretch about his Pass Pearl. That should qualify as "decent" yet not horrifically expensive.

I'm going to agree, except to qualify that it reaches well beyond decent. A true audio bargain.

isn't soldering required to swap resistors?

Mine are socketed as well. It's as simple as bending the leads and pluggin' 'em in the holes.

What's the green fuzz looking mat on the Technics platter? It looks like you're still using the stock rubber mat on top of it?

A green "SRA adjuster"? :)

more or less. Its a cheap rubber mat on top of a cheap felt mat. By themselves neither allows proper VTA with anything I own. I have never gotten around to buying a proper techincs mat to make it work right.

UPDATE!

I remembered that I had an oracle mat that I got with some other gear. Tried it out. fucking mats. GRRR. I wish that I could not hear a difference. It would make my life sooooooo much simpler.

you people in this thread are a bad influence on my wallet.

it's sold already, but thanks pete!
