He's arriving on Tuesday via special bus from Alabama. I met his brother, who arrived this past week, and fell in love. I've never had a dog before, but passively wanted one for years. After meeting Henry, his brother, then contacting the breeder and seeing his little guy's pics, I knew he was my dog. I don't know how else to explain it, since I'm as surprised as anyone. He's a Cavaton, half Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and half Coton de Tulear. He was born on June 24. This breeder likes to keep them longer for socialization and health checks. I am heading to San Diego on Friday night for an Emergency Medicine conference. I'll be at the conference itself on Sunday afternoon but will have all of Saturday and Sunday morning for walking around/doing stuff. As of right now I have the San Diego zoo on the list. How much time should I realistically set aside for it? The hotel we are staying at is only a couple of miles away. Don't drink so don't care for any bars or clubs. Suggestions for must see attractions? Any food places to check out? Nothing terribly expensive please - I am living off of med school loans. Thanks, CJ.

I'm not sure if the humor translates, but there is a thread with this title on the Big Lebowski forum, which always makes me chuckle. I guess because I have a sick sense of humor but still view life as a precious gift even though I realize that our existence is fleeting. Alright, so my short backstory: I was in the market for a new, not terribly expensive wallet when I turned first to Amazon, my default search site for stuff. Nothing really caught my eye, especially when price was factored in, so I did a google search for a top quality leather wallet. In a forum I saw a suggestion for a website called saddlebackleather.com I checked the place out and immediately saw their tagline "They'll fight over it when you're dead." Oh, humor, I like that. So I went wandering around the site just to see policies, FAQ, and all that. Needless to say, the owner has quite a story, and his approach to customer service is funny as hell. …

This is kind of sad. That would be news to me. I thought it wasn't really established that the government could do that on any meaningful scale.

This morning I was watching "Wright Brothers: First in Flight", an interesting, historical TV show. I highly recommend it if you are at all interested in flight and/or history. After their first successful flight, they walked 4 miles to telegraph the news back to Dayton, OH. I wondered why they walked. It was 1903 so I can believe that they didn't have an automobile and there probably wasn't a suitable road for one on Kitty Hawk. But why didn't they have horses or a wagon? Then I remembered that they were bicycle builders. So my question of the day is "Why didn't the Wright brothers ride bicycles to the telegraph office?

My dog Denver passed this morning. She had been declining over the last two weeks to the point where I had to carry her outside to go to the bathroom. We found out she had cancer in her spleen and liver so we decided to end the suffering today. She was 10 1/2. Here are a few pics. The one with the headphones is from the first meet I hosted:
