So I just got done reading a blog calling out Head-Fi and this forum was mentioned. I decided to join since I have noticed the same trends on Head-Fi. as the blogger. I was looking for a no bullshit forum where I could discuss audio equipment in detail and hear opinions from others on certain equipment (namely expensive cables, headphones etc). When I joined, I immediately read the welcome message and thought "this sounds like the place for me"... However, after searching for the threads linked on the blog I mentioned, I was surprised to find them all gone. What gives? Philosophical language

Is it just me or is this cereal king of them all? I mean, nothing hits the spot at 2am like an XL bowl of cornflakes (not that frosted kind either). I'm pretty serious about cereal and honestly nothing out there has been able to surpass the simple, yet complex, taste of a bowl of cornflakes done properly.

Article suggesting that it is the artifacts we are familiar with, that we like.. I remember wondering what audiophiles were up to, buying extremely expensive home audio systems to play old vinyl records. They put turntables in sand-filled enclosures with elaborate cabling schemes. I wondered what they heard in that music that I didn't. Someone explained to me that audiophiles liked the sound artifacts of vinyl records -- the crackles of that format. It was familiar and comfortable to them, and maybe those affects became a fetish. So. 5am. And the people in the flat next door are playing music loud enough for me to host a disco of my own. I live a street of old houses, by my guess the wall is 1ft thick at the thin section, 2ft over the rest. Sandstone most likely. Anyway. 5am is beyond reasonable acceptable party noise hours. I am so out of touch with technology that it is a little disappointing, I need a little help from you tech savvy folk. I need to set up a workstation to view DICOM images from a database and would like a laptop to drive this thing. I have a pair of EIZO monitors which use a DVI input, I have a decent size storage bay ( up to 9TB ) which negates the need for a large drive but I would prefer 7500rpm +- 200GB onboard. It seems to make sense to go with a quadcore processor and I need to keep the budget at $2500 I have found a few laptops which meet most of the requirements but none of the graphics cards seem to support DVI. I?m considering running an alternative OS to Windows XP. I?m thinking one of the Linux variants. I have never used Linux so I am unsure how to proceed. So I have a few questions. I?d want a dual boot XP/Linux. Does anyone know of good tutorial web sites concerning this? Any opinions on the different versions of Linux?
