<rant> Could they stop with the freaking downtime every day or so? It always seems to happen when I'm right in the middle of writing a long PM or post, or when some Google search that I really want to see links there. I've tried several times with no luck

So a friend of mine is trying to track down a painter. I tried doing an image search, but all I'm getting is a bunch of "oil painting with glare" type images, for obvious reasons. Anyone know how to get rid of the glare? Or perhaps they just know who the painter is.

I have to admit that the IRS is getting on my nerves a bit -- getting me just a little bit angry. Doing those things they do. I did my tax (or rather, had them done) early this year because we owed a little bit a of money last year, and I switched jobs last year, so I wanted to see where I was at in terms of taxes. As it turms out, because of various factors, I significantly overpaid, so I'm expecting what for me was a sizable refund. My taxes were electronically filed on 2/16. According to the IRS chart, I should have had my refund directly depositted last Friday. As of today, nothing. So I check online and find that the processing of my return has been "delayed,"…

But I immediately noticed the idiot refused to listen to me when I pleaded with him to remove the platter from the main unit and pack it separately. Portland-based power metal band Tanagra is having a fire sale on all their recordings (they just put out an extremely well-received album) and merch following a trademark dispute filed against them by the Swiss audio company Nagra. This seems frivolous AF but what do I know? Can any bearded lawyer types like @Voltron weigh in on what would be involved in disputing the dispute? Last week there was a small-plane crash in East Palo Alto (SF Bay Area), killing three Tesla Motors employees and knocking out power to a chunk of Silicon Valley for much of the day. (Amazingly nobody on the ground was killed despite the plane striking a home child day-care facility.) East Palo Alto contains some dodgy areas, and is outfitted with the ShotSpotter gunfire detection system. It turns out the crash triggered ShotSpotter, which is designed to log and triangulate on loud, sharp noises, and to log the sounds preceding and following them.
