Grok Headphones in Fullness

Well, I am looking for a new set of headphones. There is a modded set currently for sale, based on various impressions I am interested. My favorite cans have always been the HP-1000's and L3000's. I have also owned and enjoyed the Senns 600 and 650's, RS-1's both new and vintage stock, PS-1's. Would love to hear all of your thoughts on the K340's and how they compare to what I am familiar with.

Are there any ribbon based headphones? I found this -- anyone know if anything came of this (yes, I have already emailed them, they haven't had a chance to respond yet)? I also found this thread on DIY Audio, but...well, you read it...

So my ER-6i broke for the 3rd fucking time and I have had enough! I am looking for some IEMs to use on the train unamped. Budget is around $100-$150 because I honestly don't really care how good my music sounds when I am in NYC metro... My 6i lacked a bit of bass, but other than that, they got the job done. IEMs is something I would prefer to buy new, so keep that in mind. Looking for any suggestions and ideas. Thanks

  6. Not exactly sure, but I think the product comes with the earbuds+decoration general pic of em It comes in 4 flavors. Here's some direct links showing them (some flash thing with zoom, so you can see the intricate detail) :limestone (?), fringe, fur, and lace. I'll admit there's an god awful amount of detail going into some of these, thought I still find them completely wasteful.

Hey guys... I'm new around here and am not sure of the protocol for such things, but I'm in need of some advice. I recently sold a pair of ATH-A900 LTD's that I really enjoyed, but just had to get rid of them to help out with rent. Well the time has come to nab another pair as I'm about to lose my sanity if i dont get some good listening time in. So the headphones I've owned (in order): SR-225, ER4-P, DT-770(80ohm), and the ATH-A900LTD's. So where to go from here? I'm still undecided on whether i want open or closed, but I really want something different this go around. I had pre-ordered HF-2's but had to cancel due to the above reason, so thats sad. But my proble…

  8. Headphone in–the-head localization effect cause: sound doesn’t have the couple/affect with the ear and the human upper torso then direct enter the ear channel, the factors for human brain to locate sound source are missing. Solution: supplement the missing factors. I used DSP to handle a music section: the first 10 seconds are intact, then 10 seconds have processed… repeat and cycle for easier comparison. This music section is just for in ear headphone type like AKG3003. Please feel free to comment, I will be very appreciate! You can download this music track from Baidu Cloud storage, link: http://pan.baidu.com/s/1kTp6TDl access code:3x7g

O.K, so almost ampless(using my PA2v2) and with not a very decent source (X5L DAP) after getting the suitable adatpter (1/4"->1/8") from radioshcak, I finally set down and listen to my new fresh out of the box W5000 First strike: Dream Theatre, Album=Awake Track=#1 (6:00) HOLY COW !!! the drums !!! so clear, so tight, so so.... real !!! Amazing ! I repeated that part 3 times in a row just to make sure I wasn't dreaming or my mind dosen't playing tricks on me ! Detail is by far more than what I have expected ! noise level is very low, the upper extension is moderate and very balanced with no harsh, coloration or what so ever artifact ! Me Like sound is very o…

  10. First of all my mailman is awesome. This is what it looks like right now outside my apartment. All that snow on the deck is fresh, and it's going to continue for another 5 or 6 hours. The entire town has pretty much shut down (I didn't have to go the hospital, so I spent all day comparing headphones, what a life) yet I still get my package! This pair is bone stock, NOS. Overview My K340 says "electrostatic-dynamic systems" on the earcups. I'm not sure if they are bass heavy, bass light or the third one. What I do know is that they are a NOS pair that only has around 10 or so hours on them. I've been in contact with my seller the whole time who was really fr…

  13. Hey everybody! I'm a noob when it comes to selecting a headphone, and I'm looking for a "wireless noise cancelling headphones with microphone". Could anybody recommend a model to me that is wireless, noise cancelling, over the ear with microphone headset that can work with PC and mobile? The lower the price the better, and I don't care about brand. Thank you!

I just happened to get some nice headphones because I needed something for my new PC. I got the Headroom Balanced Desktop/Senn HD650 combo. As someone who used to have a pretty sweet stereo system (until my drug habit caused it to go away, but that problem is, thank god, way in the past) I was expecting to be happy with the sound of a nice set of headphones. Instead, I was blown away. This actually sounded better than my old high-end setup. Music was, for a long time, something that caused the neighbors to knock at my door and tell me to quiet down (apartment living sucks). I rarely listened to it other than in the car. However, I was so impressed with the sound that I li…

Hey, Yesterday I bought Shure SRH - 440 headphones. I read somewhere that with the SRH840 pads the headphones are more comfortable and the sound is better. Would you recommend to replace the ear pads to the SRH840 ones or the SRH940 one ? Which one of the pads is better ? more comfortable and better sound quality ? Thank you, Noam

Having a pair of closed headphones that I really like would be very useful for a long lasting happy relationship with my husband. I really like the sound of the JH13's but don't really like having IEMs stuck in my ears. I have been really enjoying my "new" Stax setup (404LE + KGSS) so the natural question is whether I should get a pair of 4070's. My main concern: fit. Having a woman's sized head, being that I am a woman, can be a problem. Oh yeah, and they are not exactly cheap but it would be worth the cost if it was something that I really used a lot. I assume that $1700 from Woo Audio is about the best price I am going to get. Any comments?

I had those HP-2 recabled 80's you gave me woodied, rescreened and added wood rod stoppers. I now have flat pads on them too. Man they sound good! Thanks again .... the 80 has been one of my alltime best gifts!

New headphones: do want. Problems: I'm still studying Java at UW. It comsumes about 95% of my free time so regular headphone listening just doesn't happen unless I get spare time at work, which is also rare. I'll be done in June, though. I'm thinking of three possibilities: ATH-ESW9 Good: Good form factor for work, seem to respond reasonably well to amps. Bad: Would I use them outside of work? RS2i Good: Enjoyed these when hearing the RS2 a year or so back. Would be a nice 32ohm phone for use with the Ventus or future suitable amps. Might be nice to have for a work rig, albeit maybe a little overkill. Bad: Maybe a little pricy for leaving at work…

Noticed that there hasn't been anything posted on the Audeze LCD-3 for some time now. The Fazor update was around 2014 or so, and there was a fair amount of press at the time that it improved the performance of the headphones. I picked up a set of LCD-3's last fall, and to me, they sounded pretty darn good overall. I found it a step up from a pair of Focal Elars that I was using. At this time, was using a Mjolnir Audio Dynalo amp to drive the Audeze LCD-3's. While I was happy with the sound overall, noticed that some recordings didn't have quite the clarity I was hoping for. So, when a deal to pick up a Mjolnir Audio Pure Bipolar for a really good pric…

I know some of you guys are very happy with your UE 10's and 11's, but those are well beyond my budget, and I don't think I'll ever be willing to spend that much. So I've been thinking these days about giving a custom pair of IEMs a shot. I don't know what kind of exposure HC has compared to HF, but I figured I'd ask here first. Of the customs that are moderately priced, I only know of the LiveWires and the FreqShow (their highest model??). I know there's the UE 5 also, but I don't remember hearing much talk about them as everyone seems to just get the 10/11's. hMm.. I listen to everything, so I'm looking for a good all arounder. As for headphones, I own a pair …
