Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. Started by postjack,

This was not here when I bought these from jpak. Now I'm looking to sell these, and I see this white grunge on my headband: Is this something normal that happens to the headband? It doesn't seem to wipe off, but I'm not wiping that hard because I don't want to rip the material.

I've been pondering this question... If electrostatic cans are mostly just a thin filament of material .. then how do various cans have different sound signatures? Is there a crossover circuit in the headphone? Why do my Koss 950's sound so much different than my Stax 307's? What is the variable that affects sound? Curious...

Hey headphone friends. Despite my great affection for good headphones, the pair that spends the most time on my head are a cheap logitech headset with 2 miniplugs -- one for the mic, one for the headphones. I interview visa applicants for five hours a day, and I wear those shitty headphones to do it. I think it's time for a change. Ideally, I'd like a new set that meets three criteria, in order: 1) Some kind of gate or filter to block excessively loud noises. Applicants often hit the microphone on their side with papers, and it's like 120dB or white noise. Sennheiser has ActiveGard on some business headsets, and this seems to do the job. 2) Professiona…

  6. Hello, first post for me. I'm looking to buy Non-Insulating wireless earbuds for running and biking in city. I already have sennheiser pmx 685i, that I really like, the only problem is every 2-3 months I have to send them to repair to switch the cable. I'm a fan of sennheiser, I have sennheiser 598, sennheiser 380HD pro, and audio technica ath-m50x. here are my priorities: Wireless Non-Insulating Sound quality Behind the neck type (like the sennheiser pmx 685) Features such as heart beat monitor Price My budget is 250$ and under. 100$ is also a great option. I'm willing to buy in ear headphones if you're able to h…

i currently have UE Superfi 5 EB (extended bass) 's and i just got back from the UE place in Irvine where i tested out the demo models for the 10's,11's, and the new 18's and was kinda dissapointed. they're all lacking in the bass dept for the price tag that they have IMO . They said that after they're fitted to my ears, that they would have twice as much bass .. but i still think there should have been more on those universal demos compared to my year old universal 5 EB's. I'm thinking of checking out the new JH16's that are shipping next month but would like to hear some opinions on the JH13's from anyone who has had or tried them and may or may not have tried the UE's …

I like my HF-1. Running balanced has given them some additional smoothness and horizontal extension. But I'm not in love with them. What do you folks think about the move to the RS-2 or RS-1? Would you consider those a significant step up?

  9. I'm relatively new here, but have been doing a lot of research over the past several days or so on the listening experience for my PC. I'm planning on buying the Sound Blaster Z card and am looking for a great pair of cans to round out my experience. My budget is $200 and under, and I will primarily use them for gaming, but I'd also like to listen to music as well from time to time. I do some FPS gaming but it's mostly Star Wars: Old Republic- or Neverwinter-type games. Soundstage, imaging and bass are particularly important to me. Imaging for obvious reasons, gotta know where shots are coming from, soundstage I think goes along with this, and bass because I love good exp…

I tend to go between an ER4P/S and the Senn 600s. Was in a music store today and noticed that they carried these Beyers. Anyone have any experience with either or would they recommend one or the other based on my current listening experiences? They were both $239

I've searched both forums for decent information in that regard and got nothing. Can someone comment on their extension of the low range, in particular how rolled off they are at 30 and 20 hz? How much improvement is there over MS-1? (I have an MS-1 here).

  12. Well after one to many "nice warnings" about what i want my Dj to do at my place it seems i need to give him a night off to let him know whats up. i have done this dj crap for a few years strait so i am confident in which i can easily do the job, then again we are talking about someone playing off his imac from itunes most of his paid time.. My gear of choice is going to be the Numark idj2 mostly cause i have somuch music already done in lossless on my ipod now (thanks to Benchmark for proving the capabilities of a computer setup). of course i am converting all my lossless files into 128 mp3s cause the idj2 does not play lossless and plus the 128's are going to be used…

Piss me off...I notice the sleeving on my Zu (Senn) cable has frayed/detached from the underlying cable (4-pin XLR termination). My own fault as I've been using the HD650-Zu quite actively these days as I've been using headphones a lot lately (with the Leben and LDVI). Is there (a) a simple way to fix this, or ( ghetto wrap it with duct or electrical tape? No, I'm not going to get a replacement, I'm pretty content with the Zu + Senn. [mods, pls move if its in wrong forum, not sure where to post this]

  15. Hi All, This is Zombie_X chiming in here. I have started this large information thread to help those who want a beyerdynamic headphone, but do not know what they sound like and or trying to pick one to suit their set-up. Since I have heard all of the models from 32Ohm-600Ohm's in their current production line, I thought I'd make this thread. I thought for once and for all I would do something about the abundance of threads regarding sonic differences between all the DT770, DT880, and DT990 models at all impedances. This thread will be the most comprehensive one ever to be around that will cover all the DT770-DT990 series in the 32Ohm-600Ohm range. I have heard every…

My current stock of headphones, in order of preference, is Darth Beyers V2/K501, K24P, PX100, KSC75, UR/40 The stock DBs were just the end-all for me for a while, but I'd been lying to myself; they were compared to HD280s and KSC75s. I figured I could use some "opposite" headphones so grabbed some used K501s, and was really impressed at everything they did besides bass. The stock DBs were definitely way too bass heavy and the highs just... not there. I tried the gel pads and they made them more tolerable (bass tamer, more highs/mids), but something's still weird about it. I'm in the process of trying to get some K701 pads from Frank@AKG, but he gave me the wrong part n…

The other place has been awash of inane useless drivel lately. http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/who-likes-new-headphone-smell-296771/ The only post worth reading was Wayne's sarcastic reply, but it seems this is the only crap being posted lately. Granted there doesn't seem to be a ton of useful headphone info posted here every day, but at least the threads have some value, even if only for their bull whip sharp sarcastic wit.

So I just got my Etymotic ER-4P's and they're sweet, but I want to use the foam tips and I can't figure out how to put them on. Do I just shove the tube into the clear tubing or do i take the clear tubing out? WTF!!

The aim of the thread is to consolidate all the info that is out there of old and frankly strange electrostatic headphones we come across. I really should have started one of these back in 2005 when I started my collecting but hindsight and all that... So I'll start off with one so rare that there is pretty much no info out there for this set. Here is what it looked like when I got it: These were made by Audiotec in France and aside from some brochures back in the say we know nothing about them. There isn't even a model number on them or a left-right identifier. They are quite big, roughtly the same size as the SR-Omega and the back of the fork is pretty m…

Here's his other reviews. Third column is how much he likes the sound, out of 5. http://www.geocities.jp/mister_terch/MemoMain.html Then this other guy goes and gives it another 4/5. http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pagecontent?lp=ja_en&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.geocities.jp%2Fryumatsuba%2Fhp-aurvn-lv.html Even given listener bias, I think it's pretty clear this is a nice contender in the $100ish closed category, at least worth a good listen. I was on the way up to US from Asia and transit at HK and bought airline adapter. As soon as the plane took off I plug the TF10 with the adapter into the airline seat. I leave the TF10 for a while and do some reading. When I'm ready to watch some inflight entertainment, I hold the left IEM and it burned my hand. Apparently the plastic right in between black and blue part melted (in the inside part) and I can faintly smell burning smells When it cold down I tried and have lost the bass responses. There's no bass at all on left channel. I guess the low driver was burned. I dont have any idea if I buy a screwed up airline adapter or its the headphone port thats causing th…

Story from Engadget about Apple's new ear buds. Here is the story below: Remember those new in-ear headphones we heard about from Mr. Jobs himself back in September? Well, he promised them for October (see the giant slide behind him), and here we are, in December, and they've finally appeared. Each earbud's got its own woofer and tweeter, so be prepared for Master of Puppets to sound better than ever. They've got a built-in remote and mic -- yet curiously aren't compatible with the iPhone -- and they come with three sets of interchangeable silicone tips for small, medium, and large ears. Are you rocked to the very core of your existence yet? Well, the $79 price …
