Headphones

This was not here when I bought these from jpak. Now I'm looking to sell these, and I see this white grunge on my headband: Is this something normal that happens to the headband? It doesn't seem to wipe off, but I'm not wiping that hard because I don't want to rip the material.

I've been pondering this question... If electrostatic cans are mostly just a thin filament of material .. then how do various cans have different sound signatures? Is there a crossover circuit in the headphone? Why do my Koss 950's sound so much different than my Stax 307's? What is the variable that affects sound? Curious...

i currently have UE Superfi 5 EB (extended bass) 's and i just got back from the UE place in Irvine where i tested out the demo models for the 10's,11's, and the new 18's and was kinda dissapointed. they're all lacking in the bass dept for the price tag that they have IMO . They said that after they're fitted to my ears, that they would have twice as much bass .. but i still think there should have been more on those universal demos compared to my year old universal 5 EB's. I like my HF-1. Running balanced has given them some additional smoothness and horizontal extension. But I'm not in love with them. What do you folks think about the move to the RS-2 or RS-1? Would you consider those a significant step up?

I'm planning on buying the Sound Blaster Z card and am looking for a great pair of cans to round out my experience. My budget is $200 and under, and I will primarily use them for gaming, but I'd also like to listen to music as well from time to time. I tend to go between an ER4P/S and the Senn 600s. Was in a music store today and noticed that they carried these Beyers. Anyone have any experience with either or would they recommend one or the other based on my current listening experiences? They were both $239

I've searched both forums for decent information in that regard and got nothing. Can someone comment on their extension of the low range, in particular how rolled off they are at 30 and 20 hz? How much improvement is there over MS-1? (I have an MS-1 here).

Piss me off...I notice the sleeving on my Zu (Senn) cable has frayed/detached from the underlying cable (4-pin XLR termination). My own fault as I've been using the HD650-Zu quite actively these days as I've been using headphones a lot lately (with the Leben and LDVI). Is there (a) a simple way to fix this, or ( ghetto wrap it with duct or electrical tape? No, I'm not going to get a replacement, I'm pretty content with the Zu + Senn. My current stock of headphones, in order of preference, is Darth Beyers V2/K501, K24P, PX100, KSC75, UR/40 The stock DBs were just the end-all for me for a while, but I'd been lying to myself; they were compared to HD280s and KSC75s. I figured I could use some "opposite" headphones so grabbed some used K501s, and was really impressed at everything they did besides bass. The stock DBs were definitely way too bass heavy and the highs just... not there. I tried the gel pads and they made them more tolerable (bass tamer, more highs/mids), but something's still weird about it. I was on the way up to US from Asia and transit at HK and bought airline adapter. As soon as the plane took off I plug the TF10 with the adapter into the airline seat. I leave the TF10 for a while and do some reading. When I'm ready to watch some inflight entertainment, I hold the left IEM and it burned my hand. Apparently the plastic right in between black and blue part melted (in the inside part) and I can faintly smell burning smells When it cold down I tried and have lost the bass responses.
