  4. Started by Les Adams,

A couple of years ago I purchased a pair of Sony MDR-7520 professional studio headphones costing circa £300. Last week I dropped them and the plastic mount on the headband snapped. I contacted Sony spares to arrange for the to be repaired and was told to call their service agent CVP. CVP told me a complete new headband was required... the cost? A STAGGERING £576! £230 for "parts" and two hours labour + VAT. When I queried it I was told that was the price and there was nothing I could do, but they offered to sell me a new pair! To compound the stupidity of this quote, it is the SAME headband as used on the MDR-7510 which has different drivers and sells …

A friend gave me this cool t-shirt. It's a patent drawing of a Jensen headphone from the late fifties/sixties. A little before my time. Did anybody know the story of these things? We're they an innovation? Did they ever amount to anything?

So as the title says, my friend wants something that is on-ear. Mainly listens to rap/hip hop and big-room. Currently he's considering the overrated and overpriced beats solo 2. You can offer earphones too. Sent from my RNE-L21 using Tapatalk

  7. https://geardiary.com/2017/07/25/even-h2-wireless-headphones/ My Christmas present this year! So, I haven’t been able to enjoy high end audio gear for almost three years now due to an inner ear infection which left me with high frequency hearing loss above 8khz, tinnitus, and intolerance to spl above 80db ... all only in my left ear. If you’re interested, it’s called secondary endolymph hydrops. Basically I have too much pressure of the fluid in my left inner ear. It sucks. Nothing sounds good any more. Detail in my left ear... gone. Soundstage ... gone. Anything above a minimal volume hurts in my left ear. Minimal volume which is tolerable…

Since this post would get lost in the ever growing Stax thread I'll post it here. If you damage your expensive phones doing this it's your own fault so don't come running to me. Be very careful with any tools this close to the drivers as one slip can destroy them. You have been warned!!! All you need to do this mod is some blutack, a screwdriver and the patience of a saint to get the damn pads on again. First job if to remove the earpads by simply pulling onto the top edge and they come off. Also remove the spring underneath as it will only be in the way. Simply pull it out of the rubber grommet. Now there is a black plate with 4 screws holding it to the phones togeth…

  9. Started by The Monkey,

Some of us are now on this phone for the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th time. Perhaps there's a reason we keep coming back. Admittedly, I currently have a loaner, but I have to say that I think the HD 800 kicks some ass, especially out of the Luxman. Now, apparently, this HD 800 is modded with foam, toilet paper, and snot, so I'm not sure what bearing that has on anyone else's experience, but I guess I'm just saying that this headphone does not suck.

Besides being over double in price, I found out that they include new Tesla drivers, so I'm definitely going to be getting a pair of these to try. Anyone else got these, heard these, or are interested in these?

  11. Started by wink,

    Interested in this. A HD650 with more sub-bass. https://www.stereo.net.au/news/sennheiser-announces-hd-660-s-headphones

  12. Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the Sennheiser 280 PRO New Model has less noise isolation then the original model?

  13. Hello! I'm looking for a pair of headphones for my work. I'll be wearing them for about 4 hours every day to cut out noise and distraction at my station. I'm really looking for the sweet spot between Comfort, overall quality and price! (I have a budget of $100) I've done a lot of searching, and so far the Sennheiser HD 439 seems like a contender. Are there better models for the same price? any more options that I'm missing? Any help is appreciated!!! Thanks!

Tyll seems to like them a whole lot. http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/i-love-these-headphonesthe-nad-viso-hp50 Color me interested. I suppose nobody else around here has heard them though. Some people say that are more open and brighter than the Momentum which would be nice.

Hello I am new to this forum and require a repair on my STAX Omegas. The right channel has begun cutting out when I move my head. It is intermittent. It is not amp related as I have tried them with more than one amp. Can anyone recommend someone based in the UK who could do a repair. Many thanks.

I got really tempted when the Focal Utopia and Elear price reduction was announced a week or so ago. I finally pulled the trigger and bought a pair of Elear after coming across the free headphone stand deal at headphones.com (their customer service is first rate so far by the way). Unfortunately my orders of headphone plugs and wire have not arrived so I am stuck with the 4m long, singe-ended Focal standard issue cable at the moment. My Dynalo is not cased yet so I had to make do with my DIYZONE Iris OTL headphone amp.

Hi All, Firstly, the hard part............. My name's Steve, I'm 50, and I Know Nothing About HiFI. There, I said it, I admit it wasn't easy, but I feel better for getting it out in the open . I've had a set of HD650's for over 15 years - which I really like, but I've recently started to think they're sounding a bit tired. They get used every day, and for long periods at weekends and holidays. They are coupled to an original Schiit Asgard amp (serial number somewhere in the 700's), and a Bifrost DAC from the same period. They are connected via optical cable to my computer, and fed flacs. I listen to all types of music - (both country and western - j/…

  19. Started by Sherwood,

I've heard and loved most of the classic Grados . I've owned every pink driver model (RS1, SR325, SR100/200/300) and find they represent my favorite John Grado sound, but I always ended up selling them on. Then I found these weird things: These have the smaller red/pink drivers found on John's earliest headphones, and HP1000 gimbals. The cups are very shallow, about the same depth as early SR60s, and as a result they don't fit in the gimbals properly. You have to insert them "backwards" to get the angle right when they're on your head, but it doesn't negatively effect the comfort. They sound phenomenal. Similar to the earliest RS1, but they'r…

Hi, WTF did they use to stick the pads to early Phones(2000).The crap is like black tar and as hard to get off. I managed to scrap it off the plastic cases but getting it off the pads is a real shit. Any suggestions for removal and what do you use to reglue. Thanks Les

  22. Started by spritzer,

So all the old stuff about these is buried in the Stax thread but since I just bought a lightly used set of KS-M3 and M10 it was perhaps time to give them their own thread. So I owned both the H1 and H2...and both were terrible. Truly awful but there are still people out there claiming the H3's are really good so...I was curious. I got the combo at a nice enough price so why not. Kevin thinks I'm nuts for buying a third one of these but hey... I guess he's right. The amp will await inspection but I connected the phones to the Carbon CC for a listen. Ok...a small spoiler here...they aren't good. Like at all and more of a shame on other electrostatics... …

I have the Ether/Ether C on loan and I did some listening last night vs. my HD800S. TLDR Version The Ether is legit. I like it better than any Audeze I've heard. It won't be supplanting the 800S in my collection, but this is a legit good headphone. Frequency balance issues and price are its biggest weaknesses. Bass and comfort are its biggest strengths. Long Version For reference, my chain: iPad -> Wyrd -> Yggy -> XP-10 -> DSHA-4. Pros: Ether bass is fantastic. Waaaaay better than HD800S bass. Going back and forth you can really hear the distortion on the 800S. The Ether feels like it is clear an octave lower than the 800S. The…

So I picked up a pair of Stax SR-40 on ebay. I know they're electret and do not require a charge to be fed to them. They have the standard 5 pin stax plug it looks like. Can I use these with the current feedback electrostatic amp?
