Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. Started by Hopstretch,

I know this was probably endlessly hashed out on HF back in the day, but I'm late to the HP1000 party and most of what I have been able to unearth over there is just the usual clueless blithering. So I ask you fine gents: Is there generally held to be a significant difference in sound quality between the HP1s and HP2s? I really, really dig the HP1s I got from Jim and I'm thinking thoughts. You know the ones.

  2. Started by tkam,

Well my pair of gs1000s arrived today. One of my largest complaints with Grados has always been comfort or for me total lack of comfort. I don't think I've ever been able wear Grados before without my ears starting to hurt after an hour. The GS-1000's solve this problem and are the first Grados I've been able to wear for extended periods of time without any discomfort. So for me the comfort is a big plus, I wonder what took them so long but at least they figured it out. Few observations about their sound so far... Soundstage is big for Grados I'm not convinced its that big compared to other headphones though. I think what might be giving people that impression is th…

  3. Seems we always start a thread about some new headphone out there that doesn't fit into the usual Sennheiser, Stax, Grado, AKG, etc etc etc family. Why not keep it all in one place as these threads seem to not go beyond a few pages anyway? Just a thought (might be a dumbass thought, who knows). Anyway, I wanted to start off with this: http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/mozaex-bluwaves-7-1-hd-headphones-are-crazy-expensive-2012-08-1/

  4. Started by Dusty Chalk,

Anyone heard these? How do they compare to the Stax? At US$600, I'm almost tempted to try them, but I should save up for the 4070's that I'm going to get...

hey guys... Well, i sent my HF1's in to transform them into HHF1's. They are goign to be the only solid ebony woodies for now I guess.. I basiclly dropped an arm and a leg to get one of the most exclusive pairs he's going to make. It's not that i care so much about it being exclusive, but when you want something I guess you forget your brains and go stupid. Anyways, i'm awaiting the pair back, should be back to daddy in a few weeks... I have a few pics from when we was showing me screen configurations... Mine is going to be silver screens no HF1 buttons... As soon as i figure out how to post an image u can see the pics i have. [attachment delete…

  6. After two years of development time has come. In a few weeks he will go into production. look http://www.open-end-...read.php?t=4455 Jürg Jecklin and Manfred Stein worked 2 years to achieve this goal: The implementation of the specified standard. And thus to achieve the improvement in all respects to the old Jecklin Float. We will see: In a few weeks of this interesting headphones are available in series. The JJ Float QA is manufactured in Germany with Quad Musikwiedergabe. http://www.quad-musik.de/

I've put around 6 or 7 hours on these so far. They're much, much better than when I last heard them. -the treble isn't as tipped up as I remember (still on jazz that extends really high, it gets a little fatiguing) -bass extension is not very good (audible at 30 Hz, very good down to 40 Hz) -HF extension is good (~18 Khz) -bass impact is an enigma. On certain albums it has a lot, other times you just hear the bass and it's not remotely palpable -some funkiness going on in the midrange, almost like the upper midrange is slightly recessed -soundstage can't figure this one out...the headstage is pretty small. But the drivers are angled towards your ears... -imagi…

Have read repeatedly the HD650 shows one of the largest gains in going balanced. Just curious what cable (DIY, Mobius, Blacksilver, etc.) people are going with when moving balanced? Especially curious if you have any thoughts of synergy direct from DA10. Thanks.

There is an odd mark that looks like an imperfection on the wood that shows up under T in "statement" in a few of the photos. Can't for the life of me figure out what is causing that, because it definitely isn't there when I look at them. Impressions to come!

  10. Started by Takashi,

A few days ago I decided to take the step up to much higher quality Audio. After researching my choices for around 200-300 dollar headphones for about 8 hours I ended up buying the Denon AH-D2000's for about $210 on amazon. My first step into high end audio was the Shure SE530 in ears which were nice, but i ran them over with my rolly chair and broke them :palm: Since then i've had the bose triport headphones and the bose in ear headphones, which have been adequate but very disappointing in terms of bass. I am a basshead so I believe I will thoroughly enjoy the heavy bass of these ahd2k cans. Anyway, when these Denons come sometime this week I would be glad to giv…

I pulled this from the other site. I would surely protect my daughter from all you ortho weirdos, but nonetheless these pretty wood boxes may be of interest to you. A little pricy for a donor frame, maybe, but zebras died to make these headphones, and if anyone can fill them with felt, y'all can.

Hello, I would like to ask for your help in selecting my new set of phones. The characteristics they should have are: To be comfortable (this might be very subjective, I know, but give me you opinion) as I will use the for long periods of time; To be durable (cables and specially connections should be resistant) as I am not the best owner for my gear; To be noise insulating (I will use them to be able to focus while working in busy places); To be portable. The sound should be crispy (I mean I am not really a lot into heavy base) and light. I don't know if this is an accurate descriptions but it is what comes to mind. I listen mainly…

My sister and her husband is going to USA in a few days and it seems about time to spend some more on headphones I currently use a Beyer DT880 most of the time, and around here I seems to be of the few that are satisifed with them. However for certain records I would like a more upfront headphone, and from what I picked up Grados will fit the bill. An additional bonus is that Grado are silly expensive here, more than $500 for SR-225, so if I don't like them I should be able to sell them easily. Pricewise SR 125, SR 225 or SR325i seems like suitable phones. A few questions: What are "normal" shop prices in USA? Are they generally easy to come by (e.g. New Yo…

  14. I am thinking about sending a NIB pair of Grado 325is to Headphile and have them made into Vixens. Do any of you have a pair? If so, how do you like them compared to the unmodded unwoodied Grados?

  15. Lots of folks put HF-1 drivers and 325i drivers into custom turned wood enclosures. Anyone ever do this with RS-1 drivers? Would be expensive, since essentially you would have to purchase an RS-1 just to cut the drivers out of the already-attractive wooden enclosure. But people have done stranger things in this hobby. Anyway, I'm just curious as to how RS-1 drivers would sound in a deeper wooden enclosure.

  16. I put this under a separate thread with the understanding that the audience for this thread might be a 100% exclusive union with the orthodynamic thread, because it's really a separate issue, and is not necessarily an issue indigenous to orthodynamics. blah blah blah future audience growth potential blah blah blah So without preface, let me start with my fundamental question: Why felt? I mean, there are other materials that are flexible and dense at the same time -- corduroy, for example, or perhaps certain dense weaves such as linens or velvet. And I ask not to question felt's supremacy, but rather as a learning exercise. What is it about felt that makes it s…

How many of you have heard the new 701? I am liking this phone more and more. I think my beloved senn 600's could soon be #2. \ I cant get over how this headphone doesnt seem to have any noticeable flaws. Every phone I have heard to this point has had something I could identify as lacking. The 701 isnt an exciting phone but it just does everything well ..... and its so comfy. What do you think? See you in Cinci.

  18. Regarding the K701, well, I happen to own them. What might be regarded as interesting is that I use them to listen to EDM FM recordings (weekly). The resolution, plasticity, definition, tightness, nuances and the overall quality of the bass (if the bass is there in the recording, and it is very recording dependent - and recording are made by humans) the way it hits is, on the headphone amp I am using, with somewhat good source - breathtaking. Senn HD600 have different qualities, and are more of a blunt tool so to speak, in comparison, although very often put in the same box together with the AKG K701. Often neglected in reviews and opinions is how are these…

I just go these today, and overall I'm very impressed: they sound really good for their price. They don't have the technical abilities of other high-end phones, but they do no nothing wrong, have a very involving midrange, and an intimate soundstage. I do wish that their earpads are bigger/deeper, as their shallowness make them not really circumaural to my ears. But what surprised me the most was how hard they are to drive. I had to turn my Lavry up past where I usually listen at for the HD650s. I can't wait to hear them out of my soon-coming Dynahi.

Ok, I generally hate these "advice" type threads but dammit, I'm considering some serious insanity and want the opinions of the other inmates at the asylum. I've been offered the opportunity to purchase a NOS HE60/HEV60 combo for what seems like a decent price so my questions are the following: 1. Is it worth abandoning (and selling) half my dynamic rig which would basically consist of the HA-2, both pair of Senn cans that I have and also the K340s in the name of a basic stat rig? 2. What would you consider a "fair price" for an NOS Baby O setup? Ugh, this is killing me.

Results for anyone to see. Asking because I know that not a lot of people listen to music as quietly as I do. I find it essential to listen at this volume however otherwise I get fatigue. I know the o'clock ratings are fairly arbitary since there's no accounting for source, amp or headphone and is thus merely a rough guide. Cheers!

  23. Started by Deadneddz,

Thanks to the Craigslist ad Collin posted I got a super deal on a pair of HE60's that I couldn't pass up. Met up with the guy locally and the transaction went super smooth. It was interesting, I asked him why he wanted to sell them, and he said that he has a pair of Stax Lambdas (didn't ask what model) and that his older brother whom he got this HE60 from actually owns 3 more. So he had 4 HE60s at one point! When he said this I immediately wondered how many HE60s were made in the first place. Poor sap said he never heard the HE60 from any other amp other than the HEV70. The phones came in the condition that it was described. From my inspection this pair seems to be i…
