Can I Put a Grado Sonata In My E-Mu?

  1. Started by Cankin,

Anyone tried this transformer coupled DAC?? Audiomagus - high end not high priced audio products Should I get it and add an amp like CKKIII or SOHA II over Pico?

  2. Started by Salt Peanuts,

So I'm finally getting off my lazy ass to seriously start planning for my wireless music setup. My question is, disregarding SQ difference since this will be used only for casual listening via speakers, what does Squeezebox have over Airport Express? I will be using it to feed a DAC via one of my Macs, most likely my iBook, and just about all of my music files are in ALAC or AIFF. Squeezebox sure do look pretty, especially in all black, but is it worth 3x that of Airport Express for my application?

  3. Started by blessingx,

Recently changed over my rig a little (including moving to a 16-bit DAC and thus back to an Airport Express) and when listening to several quietish opera tracks over the weekend I noticed many pops not there before. Originally thought something may have happened to the file, but narrowed it down to the APX. Have play files through Squeezebox Touch (fine), two Airport Expresses (not fine), on multiple outlets (not fine), under various power conditioning (not fine), with two DACs (not fine), wireless or wired (not fine), AirPlay from main computer or iPad (not fine) and a ton of tracks since (not fine). Firmware on both shows 7.5.2, which is current. Anyone else have proble…

  4. Started by Deadneddz,

The AKM 32bit Dac is interesting to me as I commonly see people refering to it as a wonderful sounding Dac. Also to add that it seems to be found in a couple very high end sources such as the APL NWO 3.0 GO and Esoteric D-05 Dac. I myself have auditioned the APL NWO 3.0 and I do realize that it has something insane like twenty 32bit converters in each channel, but I cannot forget that smooth yet detailed sound I enjoyed so much. This is why I want to audition the D-05 and APL Denon 3910.(with the AKM dac) I have a couple questions about sources that would help clarify my understanding. First, im sure that its not just the dac in a source that determines the sound qual…

Been browsing the Digital Asylum aimlessly and have found people talking about this Altmann Attraction DAC. What the hell is this? Why haven't you all told me about it? Anybody heard one? At least I know they didn't spend most of their budget on the case. http://www.mother-of-tone.com/attraction.htm

Interesting. Focused on pure playback, it seems. You apparently give up A/D, equalization and 24/192 support (caps at 24/96) for your $1100 savings -- though that's all second hand scuttlebutt.

we're using this player in our room at CES 29-321, it is mighty impressive. My choice for a reference level CD Player, smoking Good. The VAC Preamp and amps also impress mightily. The Symposium speakers after several years as a not quite ready for prime time are finally Readyfor Prime time. Still the system without cables and racks sells for $70,000 Here's hoping I get. good job so upgrading the audio system might become possible. I'm going to try and take some pictures to post.

I was recently able to pick this up after a year or two of searching. I figured I'd post some pics that I had on hand, only internals atm. It uses 2 AD1862s, and has two outputs. One of them is fixed level while the other can be attenuated by a TKD pot. Supposedly this was a CES prototype so there's no power switch. Sounds great, a shame I can't compare it to my Spectral which recently melted down. Using it with a Legato 2, which was designed by the same guy (Jocko Homo)

  15. Started by LFF,

Continuation from THIS thread. Thanks! The noise floor/pops/clicks has nothing to do with the actual rig. The noise floor/pops/clicks mainly depend on your cart and the quality of the vinyl. The vinyl in this case was good at best. FAR from mint. I have to go out right now, but later I will post some examples of mint vinyl on a very high-end rig and some cheap poor man's rig. One clip was transferred on an $18,000.00 turntable. One was done on a used $35.00 turntable and $80.00 cart. The others were transferred on complete rigs that cost $2,000.00 at most. Which is which? All of the vinyl was either mint or near mint. This is why I think some vin…

Well these look interesting: zodiac_rubicon I watched a video and he let drop that it uses a Burr Brown DAC. the video is here: Musikmesse 2009 - Audiofanzine I dunno though. I wonder when they will be out. The quoted SNR and Dynamic ranges are insane. I assume with those numbers it would need to be the PCM1794A/PCM1792A.

I bought a NOS dac (audiosector/audio zone) and love the sound and am wondering about these (audial see below) or other higher end NOS dac's. I know the arguments against these (noisy, no resolution etc) not interested in a debate. Any help with these dacs would be appreciated. Audial :: High Quality Audio Equipment

http://www.musicdirect.com/product/73106 Am I correct in assuming that I can connect a turntable and headphones to this phono amp and be able to use it without my reciever connected? If so, what are your opinions of it based on sq or value, or is there someting better that would allow me to do the same thing. I do wish it was MC instead of MM but oh well. I have an old Dual 721 that I wouldn't mind moving to my office, but really don't want to have to deal with the reciever and speakers in there also. Thanks

  20. I'm looking to upgrade my office set up from an aging bithead. I live in a remote location, and my chances of auditioning either the Pico or D10 are nonexistent. In terms of pricing, a D10 is roughly equivalent to the Pico DAC only. The Pico DAC is an option, as I have a mini^3 I could use. On paper, the D10 is the better deal, as it comes with an amp and line out along with optical and coax inputs. It will be a lot less faffing around, and will be more portable with the built in amp stage. I've read one review that gives the edge to the Pico DAC if you are using usb, but rates the D10 as slightly better using an optical input. I will mainly use the usb inp…

  23. Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knew the output voltage of Cambridge Audio Azur 840c? Oddly enough, the information isn't in the manual (or I'm an idiot and may have simply missed it) and I haven't heard back from Cambridge Audio about it.

Hi! I've had my Juli@ for about a year now, and I'd like to give it some new OP amps and some OS CONs. I only want to modify the output channels (both RCA and TRS sides) as i hardly ever use the input. AFAIK there are 10 JRC 4580 opamps in total on the card; does anyone happen to know how many (and which) of these are used for the output? I will probably change all the capacitors but I'd like to limit the opamps as National only gives you 3 LM4562 samples at a time.. thanks!

  25. Started by Voltron,

A buddy is looking to buy one of these for himself and I was wondering if there were any other units that cover the same features any better. The DAC1 is a DAC, preamp, headphone amp, and has a remote control. He would be replacing a larger preamp and likes the smaller form factor of the DAC1 all-in-one. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
