  2. Started by ilikebananafudge,

So I just bought a headphiled SR225 and the dumb bum who had it done had it terminated to 1/8, so now I need an adapter. I know Grado makes a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter cable, but who makes the reverse? And does it really matter about what company I buy from? Thanks in advance!

    Started by Guest troymadison,

does it matter if I only use one ground wire for the speaker amp? It seems as if the xlr cable I bought combines the xlr ground I think. So I only have three wires total on a 4pin xlr

  5. Started by Smeggy,

Is there any four core headphone type wire at partexpress you guys would recommend? I'm putting an order in soon and I want to get all my crap in one order if possible. If not, any other stuff/place you've tried. Not looking for expensive stuff, just plain old copper, shielded or not. Whatever is decent quality.

  6. Allow me to rant a bit. I posted this message on headfi, but Ken quickly had the administrators delete it. Why? All I was doing was sharing my experiences there, what were two of the worst customer service experiences I've had in audio. In this post i will share one of them. I bought an HD800 cable, 8 foot, that cost me over $500. I tried to balance it but I messed up. I then tried to convert my balanced cable using its HD800 connectors but again I screwed up. So now I took all the ends off and decided to just send it to ALO to be repaired. I put a note in the package explaining the situation and saying I will pay for their time. Next thing I know, it is a few day…

  7. As many of you know, I have (and love) the Manley SkipJack. It's really a neat little device with many cool uses. I've been using it primarily to compare DACs, as it allows for very quick and quiet switching. One thing that occurred to me was that the SkipJack could really use a headphone jack so that one could do the same thing with headphone amps. Is that something that already exists? Put another way, is there a passive device into which you can plug a pair of phones and then switch back of forth quickly between two amps?

  8. If when I got into this hobby you told me I would end up spending as much on a case for headphones as I did for my first pair of headphones, well... I was intrigued by the case jpak uses for his HP2s, so per his suggestion I went by my local Ritz Camera store and picked up this Quantaray case. It comes with a large chunk of foam in the middle that can be customized to your camera's (or headphones) needs. So I went crazy on it with a kitchen knife, and this is what I ended up with: Not sure what I'll do with the cable. Probably keep it similar to how it is, in a large loop around the case, but maybe cut a little path leading from each driver to take the stre…

Hey guys, I figured posting here would give me a much more intelligent response from some trusted members I already have a Richard Gray Isogray system that is working great for my amplifiers (even though the recommendation for amps is to plug straight into the wall). My preamp (the infamous RSA B52...don't shoot me) and my Dac are plugged straight into the wall because I didn't like what I was hearing through the Richard Gray conditioning. So now, I need some power conditioning and am looking for some advice. My Dac is the Reimyo DAP 777. I'm thinking of the PS Audio Power Plant Premier (regenerator), Audience AR1P for Dac and preamp separately and the N…

Hi all, I posted this on Head Fie, but thought some folks here might be interested also: It seems like the response to the review of Hug & Dance, Paranormal Division's Transformation Tweak has died down a little so I thought I would add my response to aGuise's strange treatment of my system. I won the treatment on Audiogon, and here is the letter I sent to aGui this evening: Hi aGui, You cetainly have an unusual job. Tweaking people's minds as well as their systems. I promised to write and relay my experience of the Transformation Tweak. I spent a half hour masturbating before I called you today, and focused on the first few minutes of a Michael Jackson…

  13. Just wondering who out there has owned them or messed with them. Am starting to read up on power conditioners because I believe the power feeding my rig could possibly have a detrimental effect on the sound based on experience. Certain times during the day the rig can sound different, so I would like to keep it consistent, if not noticeably better.

  14. I'm looking around for a very clear/transparent balanced volume control with attenuation in ≤2dB steps, across the range -40dB to -85dB (though if it went to -100dB that would be a bonus). This is for feeding my balanced beta22, my source has a low output impedance. putting a fixed attenuator before my present goldpoint attenuator would mean it could start at -40 but couldn't cover the whole range in ≤2dB steps. transformers/autoformers appear not to go this low options I can see are maybe: MiniVol MiniVol PGA2320 Volume Control - error404's Audio DIY Endeavours though I'm no good at coding lcduino1 The LCDuino-1 display I/O processor once it ge…

  15. Started by guzziguy,

I'm looking to buy a tube tester and would like to make it a bit future proof to my buying habits. Before researching the testers, I never knew that 12 pin tubes existed. I'm talking about 6KD6 compactron type tubes. Does anybody here use them, design with them, etc.? Has anybody even seen a piece of audio equipment that does use them? I'm guessing that I won't ever need to test them, but would like to know more about them before I dismiss them.

  16. I've got myself a dedicated listening room and had wanted a new rack. The Atlantis line seemed to please the wife from a "furniture" standpoint and it really did look pretty nice compared to most. Not an outrageous price either. Now most sites don't list the Atlantis line anymore and the few who do indicate that the Reference line has been discontinued. Did they go belly up or is a new product line coming which replaces the Reference series? Anyone know? Either way I'm back to square one in the search and nothing really appeals to me.

I know these are still pretty new but has anyone tried one yet: http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=S15 ?? My power here is pretty bad, it's not particularly dirty but during the summer the voltages will often drop below 100. I figure something like this could be quite useful for brownouts and the like.

Well not yet officially, but Alex can do headbands now. I sent in an SR-X MKIII that looked like this: (click for larger) And this is the new headband: Alex actually held my SR-X MKIII hostage for about 3 months (!) so I wound up getting the new headband for free, thanks Alex! He also informed me that sometime next year he'll have a person on staff who will do headbands exclusively, but you didn't read that here.

  20. Started by Aura,

So, the AD2K box is a big pile of dogshit. The plastic covering inside actually fell off when I first opened the box upon receiving it. I don't feel like the headphone would be very safe traveling in it (or even for storage). The current case that I've been using for my HF-2 is just a tad too small (not enough height/depth) for my AD2K and I was wondering if anyone happened to know if the W5000 case (or another AT case for that matter) supported the AD2K? If so, any idea where I could find it? I did look at Pelican but would rather see what else is out there since they are a little expensive, like $80 for the size I'd need. Based off some very rough measurement…

Does anyone have an opinion of his stuff? He seems to like making Ipod docks and mini to minis, but he sells some pretty expensive stuff. Can it really be worth it or even half as good as the other place says? http://www.aloaudio.com/multiarray/MA%20mini.html wow.... $200 mini to mini FTL.... *glares at GrandEnigma*

  25. This is the update to the Dac3 that allows for high rez playback. Its a lot steeper than I thought it would be. Still, I'm tempted. I think someone on the Computer Audiophile forums was going on about how it uses a better USB chip too. (as opposed to what the Dac3 uses) I'd have to get an explanation as to what it does better than the M Audio transit via toslink before buying. Someone talk me out of it.
