  1. Cable vendor slapped for unproven claims ? The Register Thousand pound kettle cable won't sound better The Advertising Standards Authority has slapped hi-kit supplier Russ Andrews for claiming its super-duper mains cables could reduce radio interference on the power line. According to the the company, its PowerKords reduce noise in the mains supply because they are wrapped up in woven conductors, enabling the company to charge more than a grand (

Trying to get three sources (one optical only, two either opt or coax) into 1-2 opt/coax jacks (one of each). Been looking for TOSLINK switcher options including some cheapies like this, but then came across this. Admit having the coaxial option would be a plus too. Besides Googling, pretty unaware of the options. Don't care about the bling, just want 1s and 0s passed. And if the switcher would affect support (can't imagine it would if passive, but if active?), 88.2/96 is desired. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Anyone had good luck with anything? On a related note, that optical only source, a MacBook, may be used with a JHAudio 3a coming, so if I want to go 24-b…

So now that I've had the Sennheiser 800s since they came out and I've been using my ever faithful Headamp GS-X, I'm thinking it's time to put this over the top and finish it. I've been using the Cambridge 840c connected via XLRs to the Headamp for convenience even though I know that does nothing for me because I have a second source using the RCA inputs for SACD and DVD-A. Most likely I'm going to go through Drew at Moon Audio. A while back he had set me up with Black Dragon cables on the AKG 701s and I thought those cables that headphone out in terms of some refinement and a little bit of natural warmth which was nothing short of a miracle with those cans.…

Searched this forum, didn't see it before. I tried a couple of Mr. Kim Dao's adapters years ago, as part of a discount-for-review program when he first went into business. They didn't do well in my system, he thought it was a mismatch with my modded CD player. Still, he posted the review, hats off to him. Over the years, I've seen his diatribe grow. But methinks he may have gone over the edge now. Read if you can.... Dakiom MA203 &diy5, proven For Sale | AudiogoN

Hey everyone, haven't posted here in quite some time. I have an aftermarket Senn HD650 cable that is a bit messed up. The left headphone connection is shoddy, and keeps cutting out whenever I move my head. I've done tests to confirm that its the cable connection, because my stock cable works perfectly. I have next to no idea what I'm doing, so I contacted Zach Collier from Enigma Audio to fix it, but he hasn't gotten back to me. Any other ideas where I could reliably get this fixed?

The WAT? Ya rly. After asking about cable ties in the "Whatchoo bought?" thread, I concluded that this topic needs further discussion in its own, less scrollerrific thread. There's two distinct subjects here: #1 Keeping cables that are in-use from taking over everything in sight. I'm not so good at this. The back of my headphone/computer rig looks like a Moog modular on steroids, and my HT rig even scares Cthulhu. I'm curious if any H-Cers are successful in keeping the upper hand over their interconnects. Maybe I should call this Post A Picture of [the back of] Your Rig. #2 Keeping cables that are not currently in use sorted. I wear several hats: computer ge…

Would like to use the other optical input on my Parasounds, so wondering if anyone has ever seen a ST optical to TOSLINK adapter? Searches are coming up empty, so not hopeful.

  10. Title says it all, I've got an 07 GTI and am looking at units that integrate phone and iPhone music capabilities well. Also looking at speakers maybe dynaudio. Oh and a $1500 cap on the package is in effect, any ideas?

Ok I have read a bunch from Barry Diament about ball bearing and air bladder isolation and I want to take the plunge. Here is what I am trying to find but without the high audio price tag any ideas where I can find stainless steel cups like that and very hard ball bearings? These are like $180 for a set of three and I am hoping to source something like it for a lot less. Any ideas?

I just bought a Duet this weekend. The salesman (Lorne at Executive Stereo in Toronto) says it will take a while to break in, so I'll try to record my impressions along the way.

Picked up a "Snap 'N Stack" cookie & cupcake carrier at Costco this afternoon for $18.99 CAD here in Canada. It makes an excellent headphone storage carrier for all you Grado fanboys. Simply swap out the inner cupcake trays with the foam inserts from your Grado boxes. It's a perfect fit!

well, I'm on the look out for something a bit more high density for my CD collection, and I'm considering something like this: Has anyone gone to something of this nature, and did you regret it? I'm looking at the Viewpak XG sleeves and then a nice box or case to put them all in: I'm not sure I'd go this route for everything, but it would definitely be nice to have all those Daniel Barenboim CDs that I never listen to handy for coaster use mod edit: rehosted the cdbinder.com image. I want to get one so I can use my Big Joe for my floorstanding speakers and K1000. Do they degrade the sound quality? Is there any ones (Hopefully under $50) that you guys would recommend?

I've been looking at some car receivers and focusing on iPhone connection and navigation, eyed the Sony CDX-GT640UI. Was still unsure until I saw this review. Better than the rest.

  19. Started by Currawong,

Some random at the other place wrote a review on some seemingly well-constructed cables off of eBay. I was most pleased to see the can't-argue-with price of $18 and $20 for them, considering they have the requisite magic wire, dielectric etc. Thought you guys and girls might like link (to the seller, not the review). I think I'll blow the grand sum of $50 on a pair of each (inc. shipping to Japan) and see what they can do for me compared to my more expensive magic wire.

  23. I ordered two of these a while ago to plug my Duet into my HP FEEL 200se amp. I didn't realize it at the time, as I was in a hurry, but I ordered two mono cables, thus they are both white. There is no red or black. Does that matter for sending left + right stereo signals from the Duet to the headphone amp's RCA inputs (white and red)? Are red ones somehow grounded any differently? I'm going to be plugging in normal red + white RCA cables to these adapters. Maybe I should stop buying stuff at 3am?

Here is a link to Vinnie's site: Products > Black Lightning - Red Wine Audio Any thoughts on whether this is a good product and priced right. I tend to think that the RWA gear is way overpriced for what you get.

  25. I'm looking around for a very clear/transparent balanced volume control with attenuation in ≤2dB steps, across the range -40dB to -85dB (though if it went to -100dB that would be a bonus). This is for feeding my balanced beta22, my source has a low output impedance. putting a fixed attenuator before my present goldpoint attenuator would mean it could start at -40 but couldn't cover the whole range in ≤2dB steps. transformers/autoformers appear not to go this low options I can see are maybe: MiniVol MiniVol PGA2320 Volume Control - error404's Audio DIY Endeavours though I'm no good at coding lcduino1 The LCDuino-1 display I/O processor once it ge…
