Group at Last.fm The group is set to member approval, so once you apply any current member will be able to accept you. last.fm basically tracks what you listen to after you download the plugin for foobar2000, Winamp or iTunes. A while back, some head-caser (I forget who) made some disparaging remarks about ambient, IDM, and drum n bass. While it is far beyond my abilities to defend Monotonous Snare Music, I do have a keen interest into the other genres. The whole Hoffman/Gray Blue Note remasters and all of that stuff is great, but 45 bucks for one album is just too much to spend on an album unless I'm absolutely sure it has unsurpassed sound quality. What are the definite must haves in both music in sound quality? There are just too many times where I've read about some expensive new LP version of something that doesn't actually give any improvement, or is worse than the original.

I've been trying to find a way to list my iTunes library. For my reference out in the world, and for sharing w/ folks. Dusty tunes didnt work; nor did several other export options. I had previously been using Tree Copy on the PC, but its kind of annoying since you cant really scroll w/out navigating into each directory. Turns out you can do it straight in iTunes, and you can also even grab the album art. This is a godsend. It didn't really end up sounding anything like trip-hop, and we're probably going to rerecord most of the parts because they're a little sloppy, but I think it actually turned out pretty well. Alright, I'm thinking suites of songs that are shorter than an album side. So one fine evening on boxing day, still stuffed full of leftover turkey and feeling tired from 3 days straight of overeating, I am listening to some tunes. Jonathan Tinn from Playback Designs was telling me there would be some big DSD announcements this summer and fall and this is one of the biggest. Glad to see the Acoustic Sounds Super HiRez store is live on day 1 and that they have a nice variety of music in DSD. I have not looked into how they have been made and cannot attest to the sound or quality specifically, but I think if Chad Kassem is going this deep into DSD he would do it right for the most part.

I am a big fan of the ECM and MA Records labels. I have found most of the recordings from these labels have great music detail and mixing, especially anything Todd mixes over at MA Records is exceptional in sonic quality. My dilemma is that both labels are very deep in talent and have many CDs available and I am reluctant to just randomly pick CDs without knowing what I am getting. Both labels have an eclectic roster of talent but some of it is just a little bit out there for me at this point and I would rather not buy a CD just to have to wait a while for it to grow on me. Any recommendations? What artists have you purchased and liked?

A friend of mine recently gave me some LP's to transfer for him that he found at his father's house. The LP's are all beat to crap, some containing some nice rat poo and others containing mold spores. All of them are in terrible condition but workable none the less. One of those LP's just happens to be an original six-eye red and black mono pressing of Dave Brubeck's Time Out. I saw it and was shocked that it was so beaten up. Someone must have listened to this A LOT. I cleaned it 3 times and put it on. WOW! I have never heard the mono version and I have a custom stereo version but even in this crappy condition the mono beats out every other version I have hear…
