I just bought Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" from HD Tracks. It is supposedly 24/96, but with some of the recent hubbub about what is really going on inside the tracks, I downloaded Audacity and ran a Spectrum Analysis on "Never Going Back Again." The screenshot is attached. I don't know how to read these things. Can someone let me know what, if anything, can be seen here? EDIT: Added Plot Spectrum.

So, anyone else getting excited about this? Admittedly I'm a fanboy to the nth degree. But Fox Confessor... remains one of my all-time favorite albums, her back catalog is incredibly strong, and that voice? There just aren't the words. More and more is starting to come out... Very sad news today. No real details yet. Far too young. RIP beautiful lady, you will be missed. http://blogs.wsj.com...dead-at-age-48/ http://blogs.wsj.com...dead-at-age-48/ Similar links can be found on the abc, huffington post, and cbc websites (among others), so it seems to be confirmed... although none of them have provided any details at this point.

How does the SQ and overall quality of the DCC Gold series compare to Mobile Fidelity? Does Steve Hoffman oversee the DCC line? I just found a new copy of Jackson Browne's "Late for the Sky" for $100 when the used were going for as much as $200. I don't think I've paid more than $25 for one cd in my life but to inaugurate my new Capitole this might be the CD I would pay such a price if...that sound is really that significant a difference? What's the general comparison between the two premium companies? Between a standard rebook and these gold standards? And as anyone heard or do you have "Late for the Sky?"

  7. It's been a while since I bought tickets for a popular band. Most of the stuff I like I feel lucky if they ever make it to the U.S. to tour, but tickets are easy and cheap to get. I already saw Pearl Jam during the 2000 tour three times, and they are awesome, but my wife never saw them. She's a big fan. For one reason or another, we never made the effort to go see them since 2000. But this time, I ran it by her, and she was excited. Cool, let's go for it. I sat by my computer ready to pounce right at the general sale time. Yes, I know there was a 10Club presale, but it was a lottery and many got screwed(and I'm not a member, so there's that). I reload the Tick…

  10. Source (Among Many Others): http://www.black-sabbath.com/news/index.html I have to post this because Ozzy/Sabbath got me into music. Sure, they will not be at the top of their game live due to their age, but I am very curious about the album. Could be great, could be bad. As long as Ozzy stays away from the writing and lets Tony and Geezer do their thing, it certainly has a chance. I will always see Sabbath live, because to this day, I have never heard such an awesome live guitar sound as Tony's. That alone, is worth the price. Going to be interesting...

I searched the forum and did not find such a thread, so inspired by this thread I would like to ask head-casers this: how big is your physical music collection? By physical I mean CDs, LPs, SACDs, R2R, music DVDs and etc, basically any original media. Let's keep any CD-Rs and digital files out of this I have nothing against digital stuff and copies, it's is cool, but I would like to know what original goodies you got stored in your bookcases, boxes and basements I have about 1500 CDs, 200 LPs plus some music DVDs, and god does this stuff take up a lot of living space.

  13. I was wondering if anyone here had any experiences with RVG Blue Note remasters? I've been looking to re-acquire some Bud Powell recordings and RVG remasters popped up doing the search. I vaguely remember someone commenting on it here in the past, but "RVG" was too short for the forum software to search.

The disquiet over Last.fm's founders making for the door added to the mess at eMusic makes this a crappy couple of weeks for online music services. (Although HDTracks advertising the Plant/Krause album in 24/96 would count as a piece piece of good news.) Anyway, for those who haven't heard, eMusic signed a deal with Sony for all or most of the more-than-three-year-old content in Sony's library. That pissed off their die hard "indie" customers. At the same time they announced a price hike that amounts to just a hair under or over 100% for their oldest and most loyal customers. If that wasn't enough, their communications were a PR train wreck, and if anybody had misse…

We all complain about sibilant gear, but microphones and associated gear can put the sibilance right on the source, so tell me about some of your ...erm... favorites? I'll tell you why I'm asking later. Doesn't matter if the music is good or bad, I'm more interested in the acoustic properties of the recordings.

I'm sure this isn't news to the majority of you since the announcement has been up a while. But Trent Reznor is remixing/remastering Pretty Hate Machine and it is due out in November. One bonus track that is a cover of a Queen song. And new artwork. "I’m happy to finally announce the re-issue of the first Nine Inch Nails record “Pretty Hate Machine,” releasing worldwide 11/22. UMe and Bicycle Music Group managed to locate the original mixes, so I went in the studio with Tom Baker and remastered it for a greatly improved sonic experience. While seeing the new Bond film this weekend, I was seriously impressed with Jack White's guitar tone on the song during the opening credits. Does he have other songs that have seriously delicious guitar tones? I like everything from ridiculously processed (Isley Brothers -- Who's That Lady; Shotgun Messiah's Violent New Breed; Nine Inch Nails; Landmind-era Ministry; etc.) to some nice subtle compression with maybe a little bit of tube distortion (Tommy Bolin's Savannah Woman; Al di Meola's Ritmo de la Noche; Eric Johnson) to some nice dirty spittle-flying guitar tones (ELO's Ma Ma Ma Belle; godhead's Fall Away) to ...uh, I don't know what to call it -- let's just call i…
