I Can't Hear You, Speaker Man, I'm Listening to My Headphones

  1. Started by recstar24,

The wife and I have been in the process of re-doing our family room, which includes getting rid of these DJ/Club looking speaker stands (lol). If anyone has used or come across some nice wood speaker stands that I could use for my emotiva stealths, let me know! Thanks.

  2. Can't get a demo in India of both together. Which is the better one? Need listening experience feedback from users or experts. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

Sold off my ol' Paradigm MilleniaOneCT systems and Maggie .7's for some nice fat 20.7's and the mini maggies on my desktop. Driving the kit with ... MacBook Pro -> McIntosh D100 -> MC252 -> 20.7 +-> PrimaLuna ProLogue Integrated -> mini maggies Sounds amazing! Thinking of upgrading my WA7/tp for their DiaLogue as a dedicated HP amp.

  4. A thread for discussing the "Unisound Golden Series Home Theater AU265-R Speakers." A number of head-casers got these on sale @ ThingFling, and a number more were frustrated when they tried to order them from the same and got an error. I finally got mine today, after FedEx utterly fucked things up failed at delivering them three times in a row. It was a bleeding odyssey for me to get them. The FedEx ground location is on the airport industrial park off Westover AFB in Chicopee, MA (an armpit if there ever was one). The drive ended up taking three times as long as it should have as I tooled around looking for an unmarked street. I haven't so much as taken the sp…

  5. Started by Kerry,

I'm about to move and need to downsize my Maggie MG-1.5/QR's (bought in 1989) to something that won't dominate the room. I've got a Classe CA-200 from a few decades ago. I do love the sound. I'm looking to trade in for something that could sit nicely and likely integrate into my home theater setup. A high WAF is required. I don't know what the trade-in value of these are but I'm likely to shed a tear or two in the process. If I could cover just new speakers for whatever the current amp & speakers go for I'd be ok with that. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  6. Hi Guys I got some horn speakers about 8 months back. They are floor standers, and naturally I sat them on the floor. But found they were slightly too low for my desk system. I thus raised them on ceramic house bricks to 20 cm off the floor, which worked ok but looked awful. Anyway, I finally got around to replacing the bricks with custom black marble plinths. They look better but interestingly the bass now is less bloated and goes lower and jus more tuneful. Odly I think the imaging and treble are cleaner as well, I think I am not imagining that. Maybe the whole speaker being sat on a wobbly mount of fowl and bricks was not so hot? It think the ceramic bri…

I was very tempted to buy Audio GD Master 10 integrated amplifier, I know that Audio GD makes incredible stuff at low prices, Master 10 is 250w/8ohm in class A/B...but, searching in the web, I found this integrated amplifier: Dussun R30 This is the description and specifications of the amplifier: The R30 beside others in its design offers the following highlights: High precise volume control in 0.1dB steps with left and right channel fine-synchronized: Considering the volume control device is one of the souls of an amplifier, R30 employes a DUSSUN- developed volume control device, which set up by a …

Hey everyone, quick question for the speaker guys: I assembled my speaker system around a pair of KEF XQ40s and later on upgraded to the Jamo R907s, but never got round to upgrading the integrated amp (Marantz PM11-S2), which wasn't really up to the task. However, a few weeks ago I managed to snatch a pair of Bel Canto REF1000s monoblocks and couldn't believe how much of an upgrade it was. Turns out I had never really heard those speakers. My first idea was to use the Marantz as a pre-amp, but when I set-up the GS-X there I realized that the Marantz wasn't really up there as a pre either. So now I'm wondering about what options I should entertain at around $2K, ma…

Once we get into the new home, I'm officially separating the current speaker rig from the living room TV. I'll need some semi-decent audio solution that meets the following: Either sits completely on a slim shelf or has as small a footprint as possible < $1,000, all-in. This includes any necessary amplification or other source-related stuff to get to the end of the signal. Mostly midrange-centric. I don't need a lot of bass... actually less may be preferred. No intention of adding a subwoofer. Interested in a variety of options. Anyone have great success with a soundbar? How about on-wall? (though I don't really care to mess with proper cable man…

My current desktop speaker setup is Benchmark DAC2 -> Pioneer Elite A-35R Int amp -> KEF LS50 (I also have the GS-1 on the desktop for headphones but haven't been using it with the speaker setup). I feel that there is still a bit lacking from the KEF LS50s so I swapped out the Marantz SR6005 receiver for the Pioneer A-35R. The sound was much warmer and more powerful. While I feel that setup was too bass heavy for me, I think that there is probably something lacking in my cheapie Pioneer Elite. I have been thinking about getting a Parasound A23 to replace the Pioneer Elite. I wonder if there will be too much volume going balanced out of the DAC2 since I am list…

Have B&W 805D's and Denon's AVP-A1HDCI Looking at new poweramps and the XPA-1 Gen 2 (https://emotiva.com/products/amplifiers/xpa-1) Specs seem to be pretty good. Anything else I should be considering for my 2.0 setup in the sub $2,000 range?

Title pretty much says it all...aside from also wanting to be able to listen to the Frozen soundtrack for the billionth time. They will need to be bookshelf with a footprint no larger than 12" w x 14" d. I am open to suggestions... going back in time to prevent Frozen from ever happening would be most preferable. But, a decent alternative might be some Ascend Sierra 2's. Does Beats make speakers yet?

Any of you nerds use large driver open baffle speakers, or have opinions? Specifically looking at stuff like Hawthorne silver iris 15" coax, though field coils always intrigued too. I have never heard any, so the curiosity is purely about it being something different I think.

  16. Started by blessingx,

Been waiting for a new space to upgrade from the Quad 12Las (which would move to a desk). New home so starting the hunt. Still need to keep the speakers on the smaller side and due to quirkiness of doorways positions wall mounted (or narrow stand) would make most sense on one channel and bookshelf on the other. Thus looking at both options and then dealing. Gallo Strada 2 & sub being maybe an obvious choice with the positioning, but can't stop thinking of the KEF LS50s. They seem nearly perfect (well, without hearing yet) for the space with the exception on the rear firing port on the one channel. Reviews seem pretty consistent. Am considering the Harbeth P3ESRs &…

Well less guidance more of a recommendation. Just bought a new car, no aux jack, no cassette deck so I can't use my adapter. I'd like to find a nice portable speaker to set up in my back seat instead of tear out the old speakers and radio. I don't plan on keeping this long enough for it to matter. My point: can anyone suggest a good Bluetooth speaker to use in my backseat?

The midrange driver on one of my B&W 802 stop moving. i listed it at ebay but decided to pull it out and make it a project to fix it. Madisound suggest replacing the capacitor which i did and to my surprise, it did work and it sounds damn good. now i am in a process of replacing all the capacitors since they are about 30+ y/o (the bad speaker first to compare the sound between original and modified). i am installing different brands of capacitor (mostly poly cap some electrolitic) to match the value and fit the tight space. I bought some Mundorf Supreme and Clarity Cap for the tweeter and midrange section and will install them soon. The base is a little l…

Kinda want to get one. Anywhere I should look besides SVS? Those sealed units seem pretty enticing.

  20. Started by nikongod,

This is a spin-off of another thread: I have long wondered why IKEA does not make flat-pack speakers. Either a simple, but relatively large (larger than what you could conveniently load into a very small car anyways) single driver or 2-way speaker in a rectangular box (maybe with a port?) OR a crazy-super-sexxy single driver folded horn. I wonder if the market demand for a nicer speaker is just too small

Just noticed that Emotiva has some reasonably priced powered speakers ($399, $599, and $799/pair). Any thoughts? http://emotivapro.com/products/powered_monitors/airmotiv5.php

  22. I went to my regular hi-fi store, MacBook Pro in hand, for some speaker evaluation today. The plan was to try the Harbeth 7ES-3s originally, but things were considerably altered by my running into the fluent-English-speaking KEF dealer the last time I went there who pointed out a new pair of Q900s in the store. I'd neither experienced Harbeths nor KEFs, so was somewhat intrigued. The KEFs are cheaper, but have a funky combined tweeter and mid designed to improve the soundstage and image even when listening off-center, along with a passive cone instead of a port, the whole aim being making them very room-friendly. So the idea was to plug my MBP into the Esoteric K-01 t…

http://www.svsound.com/speakers/ultra-series Basically this is a (A) talk me down or ( dew eet thread. So as I indicated elsewhere I passed the CPA exam, people around the office keep asking what I'm going to do to celebrate. I was thinking about buying some speakers for the HT, the SVS Ultra Towers. Why towers instead of bookshelves, since I've been so happy with bookshelves plus sub? Well, if I'm not happy running the towers full range, I can always cross them over at 40 or 60 and throw a sub back in the mix, effectively making them bookshelf speakers again, but I have the benefit of BAD ASS looking towers. I really can't get over how awesome those things lo…

I am in the market for a set of speakers. I have very quickly become overwhelmed and could use suggestions. The room these will go in is ~14' x 31' with 9 foot ceilings. It is open to a room that is 14' x 20', so effectively the room is 14' x 51'. For various reasons, they probably need to be placed along the short wall, That wall has windows over most of it, and a large radiator under the window. This means that the speakers cannot be closer than about 18" to the wall. Additionally, the corners are not accessible, so corner horns won't work. I plan on driving these with a push-pull 300B tube amp (~30W Class A). These amps can drive about anything (they are not SE…
