Any way to tell? My uncle runs a company and received an anonymous email from one of his employees saying that these people (3 branch office heads) opened their own company and are channeling my uncle's clients there. And this picture is supposed to be proof.

Deep cryo-treated mainboard Just like a good amplifier, we pay special attention to shielding and layout: As if we weren't mad enough spending weeks auditioning motherboards, we go the extra mile and completely deep cryo-treat the entire transport: it now runs cooler and sounds better. This isn't just a Dell in fancy dress. Not forgetting the linear power supplies .... on a PC • http://www.itemaudio..._transport.html

I created a seperate libarary in itunes in order to do some shuffling and converting of my existing library without touching it. Job done I came back to my original library. Except that it seems to think that all of my music is where i had previously copied the files to for the second library. The only thing unaffected is podcasts. Now I could simply recompile the library. I havent lost any files or anything. But Id have to sit and wait for all the artwork and volume levelling to process again. And the gapless stuff. And then run iVolume again. And this is all very time consuming and irritating. I'd also lose my play counts and probably my ratings (which I use f…

Carmack is one of the smartest guys in the entire PC/gaming industries and I love hearing his keynotes. They are pretty technical, but very very informative. I have it on in the background while I'm working this morning and I'm really enjoying it. Link to part 1 (starts at 15:00)

I thought this article from Computerworld was interesting regarding the new technology that will let you sync your ebooks between Kindle and Kindle2 devices and maybe other devices such as the Iphone or Android. Here is a link and I pasted the article below: Shhh: Whispersync could be the real news out of Kindle 2 Whispersync: The Real News Behind Kindle 2 Matt Hamblen, Computerworld Amazon Unveils Kindle 2 The latest incarnation of the e-book reader is thinner, with newly designed buttons and interface, but it's not a radical overhaul. The introduction of "Whispersync" technology may well be the bigge…

Ok, so as I sit here at my now 6 year old computer and listen to it randomly beep and squawk I'm forced to realize that I'm probably going to have to replace it sooner rather than later. I'm done with desktops for home computers so laptop land here I come. Requirements for the lappy: 1. Does not need to be portable, only transportable and fit on my lap. 2. Must be capable of running games like COD2 (and 4 when it comes out). 3. 17" screen for occasional movie watching. 4. Budget is ~$2500, tops. Clearly it wouldn't hurt my feelings to spend less. Dell seems to have some pretty decent deals on business class laptops right now (the Precision M6300 in particu…

thinkpad t410. everything stock except added 8gb of ram about 6 months ago. if i lock the computer, the screen goes blank after a few minutes. when i move the mouse to bring the screen back up, it locks up the machine and the only thing i can do is to manually turn it off and turn it on again. i used to have a screen saver (the flying windows from windows 98) and disabled it 2 days ago thinking it might be causing issues. problem persisted. just came back from the gym and i had locked the screen when i left. pressed the caps lock key as it has a led indicator inside it to see whether it had already frozen or if bringing it back to life screws it up. the light lit up a…

So, Firefox has been getting flakier and flakier on me, so I finally decided to give Opera a shot. It seems decent enough, and isn't having the page-loading issues Firefox had been having. But I'm having one major problem with it... I can't seem to get the scroll pad (next to the touch-pad) on my POS Gateway laptop to work. Using the space bar works, but is definitely less than ideal. And I can't find anything in the documentation to help. Has anyone else had this problem with the scroll pad & Opera? Thanks! Ian

Hello! I'm thinking about buying a new laptop. I gave my old HP to my sister and it weighs 400 pounds. I want something light and tough (can I have both?) for around a grand or cheaper that will be used exclusively for internet and music on the go. There have been a lot of threads lately about laptops, so judging from those I'm either considering a Lenovo T series or (shudder) going back to macland with an iBook. Any other thoughts or recommendations appreciated.

So I've been having problems with my wireless for a month now. The wireless card decides to turn itself off at random times, usually once every two days or so, and when I try to turn it back on, it does nothing. So I try the thinkvantage wireless thing and it says its still on when its obviously off. I tried uninstalling the Thinkvantage wireless manager, fooled around with the power settings of the wireless card and logging in and out, but the only thing that works is restarting the computer. Any recommendations thats not reformatting the comp, buy a mac or get linux?

With my MBP dead and dying, I'm looking to to build a Windows box based on either 4690(K) or 4790(K). The main purpose of the machine will be for editing photos under Lightroom/Photoshop and gaming. I'm hoping to make it as future proof as possible (not that it's really possible) within the budget. Can anyone here suggest a build/parts list for $1000 (including CPU)? I already have a monitor, mouse, keyboard, and SSD. Thank you for the help. EDIT - And I'm not doing Hackintosh - I don't need this to be more work and it needs to be.

So I finally got my internet "working" a little while back and now my router is being a PITA. When I connect from the cable modem to the router, and either connect wirelessly or wired to the router there is no internet, but I can still access the router page (192.168.1.1) and if I connect the cable modem straight to the computer using ethernet, the internet works fine. I tried resetting the router and doing everything I found online (that doesnt void the warranty) such as changing the router ip address, changing the router to static ip address, trying different security options, beating it up etc etc So does anyone have any suggestions?

Since I can't seem to get my Macbook Pro 15" (2011) working correctly with Mac OS X, I was thinking that I would try installing Linux on it (where it seems easy to turn off the discrete graphics card with a command line). I'd probably try it out with a dual boot for now. What is the best (but not too difficult to use) Linux distro out there (that will work with a Macbook Pro)? Ubuntu? Linux Mint? Something else? Pros and cons? In the past, I've like the look/feel of gnome over KDE. In order to do this, I will probably need to boot into Linux for the first time without using the GUI (command line only) since the external graphics card is (for lack of a better …

Hi guys I have a problem, I need some suggestions from all the experts and those who have experience in Linux. Before we go any further, I just wanna say a big THANK YOU to you guys for taking the time to help me out. I truly appreciate the help. Usually (once every five years or so) when I upgrade my home machine/home office server I go over all the distribution options, try out candidates on virtual machines and generally make a considered affair of it. This time, since my machine has collapsed in a cloud of MCEs, I've got to just decide and go for it. I've used Mandriva and basically liked it ever since Fedora forked off from Red Hat. I like KDE and have never warmed to Gnome at all. Which is really why I moved to Mandrake at the end of consumer Red Hat. Red Hat and Fedora were anti-KDE back then. I understand that's changed since. My last upgrade was Mandriva 2007. System management tools and the like…

For quite some time now I've noticed that I'm constantly having to re-log in on certain websites. Head-Case is fine, but for example if I don't go to Head-Fi for 2 days when I do go back I'm logged out. There are at least 4 or 5 other sites that have been giving me this grief lately. I'm on Firefox 3.0.5 on a Mac. I'm the only one on this machine so I'm not worried about someone getting on and pretending to be me. This problem is really starting to annoy me. Any suggestions? I do periodically clear out private data minus Cookies, Offline Website Data, and Saved Passwords.
