  1. Got up early to ride out to the coast. Stupid weather won't wake up to the fact that it's may. It was 30F when I left the house at 5:40. Still, view was nice. @Augsburger - I won the coldest ride challenge today.

  2. Got my pretty new PSU cables put in. I need to train the wires going to the GPU a little better, I'll do that when the new case fans arrive in a couple days.

  3. Setup a Raspberry Pi + Ropieee network audio bridge for my music room setup. Super easy to put together and works great. Thanks for the tip Marc!

  4. Last night we made pizza with mozzarella, parmesan, scallion, garlic hot peppers, pancetta and egg. Tonight, I made this recipe and really enjoyed it. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/28/magazine/punjabi-red-beans-recipe.html

  12. I think it can also integrate with the Rockwell retro encabulator, if you wanted to tie that into your system as well.

  16. Well There was the original Turbo Encabulator The Chrysler Version Then Rockwell enhanced it to make the Retro Encabulator And nowadays there's a Micro Encabulator End the misery of side fumbling forever!

  18. I want one too! Spent the day between work stuff transferring all my favored artists and albums on Tidal over to Qobuz. It's still missing artists, but prefer the interface, suggestions and cheaper price. Then went over to Tidal to unsubscribe, and see I'm on a veteran's discount plan and it's actually much cheaper. Damn, now what?

  20. In Spain we call them "válvulas". In other Spanish speaking countries they call them "tubos", but not in Spain. I rarely see them named valves in English.

  21. I think I will buy one as well even though I don't know what it will do, how I will be able to assemble it and what it is for but I like the concept.

  22. It makes anything you connect one to a Roon endpoint. The one in the photo is sitting on and connected via USB to my DacMagic Plus. It is also connected wirelessly to my network (or you can leave it wired). Roon sees it when it is turned on because of the Ropiee software (Linux running Roon Bridge). It is a single purpose network appliance so I do not have to mess around with Linux per se. RopieeXL can also be used for DLNA, airplay and Spotify. Edit: But Ric's video makes a much more compelling case.

  28. I've been doing the same thing Jim! I picked up one from Pioneer that opens up so that disk don't get stuck inside. Works well but man is ripping CDs slow. I've set up a Roon server on my imac since it is on all the time and got a 2 bay RAID 1 harddrive that is networked and is in the closet. Roon is fucking awesome! Love been able to steam music anywhere in the house I want! Planning to replace my Airport Express (ethernet to optical) with the Rasberry Pi + Ropiee (eithernet to USB) that Marc suggested so I can get hires in the music room. Today, I moved around my headphone setups for kicks (one at my desk and one in the music room). Decided that the GS-X mk2 needed to be near its cousin BHSE. Plus, it is a good way to procrastinate grading.

  30. Got good news from PCBnet - they will remanufacture the PSU main boards to the spec'ed 2mm thickness. Expect to be shipped next week. PCBnet has truly been a top notch company to do business with. Their product quality and customer service have both been excellent!

  32. I bought a pair of these headphones because I really wanted to see how good they could be and to support this new comer. My experience is pretty much similar to Birgir's. I like the build quality. The clamping force on the head isn't that much, which is a good thing. However, it can be a bit too loose. The headphones almost fell out of my head a few times. About the sound, they sound very similar to my Omega clone. I might be a bit bias, but my Omega clone has just a bit better bass extension. Overall, I would say that the phones are very nicely built. The headband can use some improvement. The price, IMO, is a bit pricey putting it in a similar price range as the Stax SR007.

  33. So, I actually have a miniDSP EARS. I don't particularly like posting measurements from it since it is notoriously unreliable due to improper acoustic impedance as well as a couple other issues. I decided to measure ES-1a and compare it to a couple of the headphones that have been mentioned in here so far. These are not industry standard measurements and should not be treated as such. They are highly unreliable and should be completely disregarded above 2-ish Khz. Lower if you want to be conservative. You will also notice some wiggling in the FR at low frequencies due to room noise, especially for the 007 measurements, this is not an accurate representation of the bass. SPL these are aligned at is not the actual SPL used for measurement, and note the much more compressed scale than what is commonly used, this will exaggerate things that are otherwise not problematic. Compensation used is HPN. ES-1a (dark pads) and L700 (stock) ES-1a (dark pads) and 007 (blu-tack modded) ES-1a (dark pads) and 404LE (not quite perfect seal, creates the bass rise) ES-1a (dark pads) and ES-1a (stock pads) All these measurements have 1/12th octave smoothing, I consider that most accurate to what you as a human will hear. I'm happy to provide unsmoothed plots if anyone wishes for it though. Note that this has the midrange coloration that is much more in line with 007 than the lambdas. It still benefits from bringing down the midrange a notch in EQ. The null at 5Khz is audible with sine sweep but I do not hear it in normal music listening. Once again: EARS is highly unreliable and should only be trusted below 2Khz where it is mostly accurate. Also note that very slight position changes will alter the treble response especially much.
