  1. Made trip #2 to empty a storage unit for my dad. Good and bad news: Bad - he needed my help, he has had 2 hip surgeries but now has an inner ear "thing" and needs a walker for balance. Was pretty tough to see, but he is quite the trooper Good - what I was cleaning out was about 24 boxes of LP's and acetates....I'll try and see what's there (some are pretty fucking dusty/dirty, and some of the older acetates have broken) Bad - Karen (who is up in our Maine condo, I'll join her Saturday) is gonna be pissed at all these boxes in our dining room Good - there may be a couple store owners or contacts interested in the lot Bad - the condition of many of these is not what I was hoping But, unit 578 is clear, and he won't have to spend $400 for the next lease/payment.....

  2. Here is my two cents on steak. I’ve done them many ways and I find this to be the best, Get an infrared burner*. I slow cook mine on the gas grill at the lowest temperature I can until it is around 120F. Then I sear it on the infrared burner (mind gets up to 1800F) for about 30-45 seconds per side. Cover and let it rest fod 5-20 minutes. It will be perfect. * I have a Napoleon Gas Grill with an infrared burner on the side but you can buy one on its own.

  7. Well the CD1700 actually does not have any weakness after the recabled work that I did. As wonderful as the Cd3000 with similar mod, the treble still can be annoying from time to time. I don’t encounter any issue with the CD1700. The presentation is actually effortless, relaxed, and analog sounding. If you guys come across one and willing to do a bit of DIY, you will be very pleased with the results. They can easily compete with any headphones under a grand and then some.

  8. Always welcome, and thanks for doing these types of things. Now more than ever people of all sorts need help. I couldn't help notice that "Inigo Montoya" donated, though 😄

  10. I decided to go custom I'll get some pictures after I ensure all my fingers are intact. I ordered some of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075K4CTYM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 on Amazon to work with my drill press to make some holes with this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0061J5B2Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'm not sure if Nate has prior claim with anyone cutting holes, or if that just applies to woodworkers. Oh .. and this:

  11. Here's a tip that I got from a friend that is a butcher, grills are pretty terrible for cooking steaks unless you like them really rare. I have not used my grill to completely cook a steak for several years now. The current process, which came from the butcher friend, is to sear both sides of the steak on a very hot grill for 2-3 min a side. Then transfer to the oven (in a pan) at 225F-250F and finish to desired internal temp, generally pulling 5F early and letting the steak rest for 10 minutes or so before serving. For burgers I religiously do the following - burgers are to be flipped once and never pressed. Cook them until they bleed up thru the top, then flip and cook and hope that the flames don't get too bad. That's my 2c anyway. Oh one more thing, the Egg can absolutely be a "proper smoker" - more so than my Traeger according to the die hards. It'll take more effort, and potentially a gadget or two to get consistent low temps for long cooks (for example) but there are a ton of folks that swear by them.

  12. Listening now. I actually like it. I would typically assume a Dusty recommendation comes with vampire squirrels and random beep boops out of tune and timing.

  13. David Sylvian, Gone to Earth I love this album so much, even if you dismiss the ambient sides (which I don’t), it still has an almost post-rock patience to it, but with that solid yet relaxed rhythm section. Bliss.

  14. Opened our windows! Wind direction is threading fires on either side so we temporarily have “moderate” air. #simplepleasures #2020 With the Australian Thunder from Down Under Firemen helping now, containment is progressing.

  19. Circa 1996. Sony MDR-CD1700. I modified it recently for a balanced amplification. Stock is single-end only with wiring going into the left earcup. The CD1700 is seriously awesome after the mod. It is super efficient and sound better than ever. Modded with Moon-Audio Black Dragon and Furutech 4.4 mm plug.

  20. 2nd vocal lesson Started working on a cover (Goodloe Byron, Wellness Day, in the style of Born Under Punches). Asked permission. He said he’d be honored, so now I have to. Also, not so much did today so much as benchmarked today — lost another 5-10 lbs. over the last month. I am now 40-45 lbs. down from where I was in March. Win! Still have high blood pressure, though. 😕

  25. It was a little heavy on the sale and pepper but other wise turned out good. I took the right 1/3 and turned it into burnt ends, those came out better. and "Super Smoke" mode on the Ironwood appears to do the job.

  26. Trying the next brisket experiment on the Traeger. It's a 4lb (trimmed) point so we'll see how this turns out compared to the flat that I did previously. It was a bit of a bizarre cut, I think that they actually cut the whole point off of the flat so the right hand side (as shown above) is pretty floppy and unsupported. I'll likely end up turning half of this or so into burnt ends to go along with some traditional brisket slices tonight for dinner.
