Happy new years, but it feels like Christmas. Dan was gracious enough to share some roasts with me from Marmot. I started out with the Rwandan. Espresso pull. I got it pretty close the first time, with 22g in and 42g out @ 35 seconds. There was a touch of sour in there, which is what I would want on a first pull. But there was tons of fruit from this, blueberries, some strawberry and hints of blackberry, with some cocoa in the background. I went a touch finer on the grind for the second pull, yeah I went right back for a second double shot. The second was still 22 in and I pushed it to 44 out. The berries were still there and it brought down the sour just a touch, like I wanted. After the taste test, I then made this into a latte, the berries still came through and just made a nice beverage. I will probably push the extraction just a little more to increase the depth, but very happy. Thanks Dan. I will be first in line for the next group roast buy.5 points

Thanks for the wishes. Never have I been so tired, on my birthday or any other day. The movers arrive tomorrow at 8AM.4 points

After two hours of reviewing the Benchcrafted plans, I have only been able to deduce that the bench seems to be built out of various pieces of wood and the red thing seems to screw onto the spinny things. Think I might go back to making beer openers and put this on hold as I might be getting myself into a 5 year, $20k build based on my skill set.3 points

As I've mentioned in other threads, my entire life is in boxes right now. As part of switching this house to a "skeleton crew" I dug up a "flat" Airport Extreme that I had mothballed years ago and fired it up. I had it up and running in under 20 minutes. I really wish Apple still made AirPorts. Their east of use is unparalleled.3 points

Fire in the West Neil Swainson 2022 https://album.link/i/1615136918 Example: A really nice set. 10 songs over the course of an hour. With nice breaks and breakdowns, well recorded and really balanced. Hmmm, it may sound that I am lukewarm about this album. Not in the slightest, it has put me in a relaxed jazz attitude. And I like it.2 points

Indie bands have been releasing cassettes for a few years, but now a new cassette player has been released. I was cleaning my place and stumbled on some old cassettes... taking some time to listen through all of them (especially since many of them are unlabeled/mislabeled) on my ancient Walkman. Unfortunately, this new player doesn't measure or perform very well, but perhaps it will stir the big players into producing something better. https://www.wearerewind.com1 point

I think you can say the last stage of mini T2 is Q8/V3 and Q9/V4. The signals come via R11 and R12 to base Q8 and base Q9.1 point

I am hoping some magical fairies show up at night night and do it all for me. No Steve, not what you are picturing.1 point

To help people with troubleshooting here are the valve DC operating points measured with respect to ground on a known good stock mini T2. Inputs are shorted to ground. No load on output. All components stock values and DC PSU voltage rails within 1% of schematic when under load. Obviously the two el34s should have identical DC operating points and so should each half of a 6922, the other channel should also match. Exact measured values are going to vary a bit depending upon the valves, exact PSU voltages component, tolerances etc etc. NOTE the EL34 heaters sit at approximately -400VDC. The 6922 heaters are approximately at 0VDC I get a signal gain of approximately 940x with a single ended 1Khz sine wave 0.1Vrms input and an output of 94Vrms between the + and - output pins into a 10Mohm (multimeter) load. Audio enters the EL34s on the cathode and for 0.1Vrms 1khz input I get approximately 5.17Vrms of audio on the cathode, the EL34 amplifies this by about 9 times and gives 46.7Vrms on the anode with respect to ground. The other EL34 operates similarly but opposite phase.1 point
