Well, that was fascinating. There were people there who had indeterminate but massive wealth. Founders of hedge funds, international road and infrastructure construction, bankers and so forth. The Countess Wessex was both charming (she was in PR before she married Edward) and disarming. I had the whole "Your Royal Highness" thing worked out in my head, but she totally threw me by coming into an entrance behind me, and I was the first person she saw in a full room - put her hand out for a handshake and said "Hello - delighted you could come". You could almost hear me brain rattling around wondering what had just happened; I think I babbled something. Carole said "Yes - that is absolutely typical of her. She is completely not up herself, unlike Prince Charles who gets really upset if you don't follow protocol" The house was built in the 1880's for Queen Victoria's youngest son, who died in the 1940's, after which the house spend long periods unoccupied, and of course progressively degraded. Took several million to restore. We had dinner in The India Room, which is lined with carved paneling in the Indian style. Actually everyone was really good company. Had a chat with Susan Hampshire, who has aged really well (no facial work), and still has the glorious honey-like voice from TV and film. Impossible to think she's now 80. It was only afterwards that it was found that five of the ultra-wealthy had chipped in £25k each, and two substantially more. Sort of as loose change. One guy, a self made man from Mauritius, has pledged to become a philanthropic fund raiser for Brendoncare. Quite an evening!6 points

After working with the mini boards in 3oz copper, I would strongly suggest going 1oz... Little parts and the heat to do heavy copper isn't a good combo. But I won't be buying any, so go with what the majority wants.1 point

I had a great time. I know for next year I'll bring my own source like a high res DAP and a cable. I'll book a room next time and take the time to listen to things I'm considering buying. There was so much stuff I wanted to try I got overwhelmed and lost focus. The best thing I took away is that my own hand built DIY gear can hang with some of the high dollar stuff out there so big thanks to all hear at head-case for providing the designs, support and guidance. I did like the Auris Headonia. That's a sweet amp, but at 7500 euro it's a bit out of my price range. I listened to some $38,000 mono-block setup that sounded great but a Stax SR-L500 and a Stax amp that I did not remember the model number of sounded just as good to my ears being fed by a laptop.1 point

I'd agree with that, adjusted. The Dynalo Mini also adjusted to 2oz. Thanks to whoever cleaned up the columns. The board house can work with the THAT340 adapters so those are a go. I'll move the links to the board files onto the 1st post so everyone can see what is being ordered. Also, I feel like I forgot one board that someone wanted. Does the list look complete?1 point

BURN THE WITCH!!!! Going by the clusterfuck on HF in the last few days...let's not focus too much on what actually differentiates the Stax units. They do tweaks that we can never see so sure..different stator designs, different diaphragm treatment and the like. Of my amps the closest would be the Octave V2. Similar design ideas just crammed into a much smaller chassis.1 point

This is actually for tomorrow. My wife runs https://www.brendoncare.org.uk/ as CEO. Their patron is HRH The Countess Wessex, wife of Prince Edward, youngest son of the Queen. So tomorrow we're off to Bagshot Park (their home) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bagshot_Park as a fundraiser for my better half's latest project https://www.brendoncare.org.uk/care/our-care-homes/otterbourne-hill . Dinner for 42, with five great and good expected to fork out UKP150k. The ones that could not make it, chipped in UKP10k. Should be interesting! I'll let y'all know what it is like.1 point

Got the first of the 3 minis finished more or less (less case, etc.). Had it running on AC for about 5 mins or so. 255R bias resistors, +/-20V PSU... I'm only seeing around 170mV across the 20R resistors. Low, and seems strange with others getting 18mA with 220R, etc. As for adjustment (offset), I used the pots by the LEDs to get the offset between +/- for that channel centered around ground, then had dialed the individual offsets in using the other 2 pots. Anyone have a different adjustment method? I may play with the pot by the LEDs and see if that does anything to the bias current or not.1 point

RIP to my sister-in-law Carol.....a wonderful, silly, generous, smart, sometimes neurotic woman who loved her family, especially her two kids, more than I thought humanly possible. Had been having epileptic seizures off and on, meds weren't fully helping; usually seizures in sets of two when they came. She and my brother were in Florida visiting my older nephew. Apparently last night she had two seizures but then a third, went back to bed after, and never woke up. I'm going to miss you horribly....may your love shine down from heaven.0 points
