Died in a high speed crash during the 7th stage of the Dakar on Sunday.

 

RIP to Christopher Tolkien, the famous son of a more famous father, and Rocky Johnson, the famous father of a more famous son. Each of them brought me a lot of entertainment in my youth.

I have many fond memories seeing him and hearing his playing and compositions!

As part of the Heath brothers, he seemed like the voice of reason in a family of cut ups!

I've known that another great jazz cat, although rather overlooked, Claudio Roditi, died the 17th. RIP Claudio.
