Beefy Posted April 11, 2022 Report Posted April 11, 2022 Well, this looks promising, Manitoba storm could be 'worst blizzard in decades,' Environment Canada says. High estimates are about 45 cm (18") of snow. And I don't think we're even getting the worst of it, going to be worse to the south. Last I saw, snowfall in Grand Forks ND could exceed 80 cm (32")! 4 5

n_maher Posted November 17, 2022 Report Posted November 17, 2022 Ayup. Down here on the coast we’re just getting misery rain, defined by me as when it’s sub-40, raining, and so windy as to render an umbrella useless (horizontal rain). I had to tour some folks around yesterday and it was properly nasty outside. Slightly better today with flurries in the forecast so it would appear there’s a chance of winter arriving this year. 1 3
skullguise Posted November 17, 2022 Report Posted November 17, 2022 "Misery Rain" is a great and quite applicable term, Nate. That shit just digs into your bones! 2
morphsci Posted November 17, 2022 Report Posted November 17, 2022 I would much rather have snow over the nasty rain. I actually enjoyed shoveling the driveway. First time in at least seven years. Not sure how long the enjoyment will last. 3 1 1
Pars Posted November 17, 2022 Report Posted November 17, 2022 Toto, I don't think we're in Florida anymore... 1 2
swt61 Posted November 17, 2022 Report Posted November 17, 2022 Since it's pegged, it surely will drop at a rapid pace. It's been 21 years since I shoveled snow, and I'd be quite content to go at least another 21. I did have 40 years of shoveling bliss after all. Time to let someone else have some of the fun. 1
n_maher Posted February 4, 2023 Report Posted February 4, 2023 Tomorrow's high - 45F. Today, not so much... 4 1
skullguise Posted February 4, 2023 Report Posted February 4, 2023 Stay warm, Nate (and everyone else up here)! We did fine overnight...Karen turned up the thermostat temp "just in case" and I ended up waking up several times because it was too hot.....ALMOST cracked a window 🙄 5
morphsci Posted February 4, 2023 Report Posted February 4, 2023 Right now it’s -14 in Northfield with a wind chill of -32. But then we are having a high in the mid 30s tomorrow, so almost a 50 degree swing in about 24 hours. Pretty Crazy. 5
mikeymad Posted March 13, 2025 Report Posted March 13, 2025 Snow Day - I don't have to do anything... 5
mikeymad Posted December 27, 2025 Report Posted December 27, 2025 It won't last long but it is nice. Boxing day dusting. 5
n_maher Posted December 28, 2025 Report Posted December 28, 2025 We got an unexpected 3” overnight (that’s what she said) on top of the 4” earlier this week. First white Xmas in a good long time. 4
Knuckledragger Posted yesterday at 05:31 AM Report Posted yesterday at 05:31 AM For the New Englanders: 7 1
guzziguy Posted yesterday at 05:51 PM Report Posted yesterday at 05:51 PM Good luck to everybody in New England and elsewhere the snow is falling. Stay warm! 2
Knuckledragger Posted yesterday at 09:57 PM Report Posted yesterday at 09:57 PM (edited) Those orange circles with squares in them represent over 1000 homes without power. So far [knock on wood] we're okay. Two friends of mine (85 and 89 years old) don't have power. Apparently their propane (heat) stove works to some degree without power, but in a very reduced capacity. I have the (dumb AF) color changing light bulb in an antique lamp. For some reason, it's super sensitive to voltage drops. It starts flickering way before anything else. I've nicknamed it "the canary" and kept it on all day. It's been steady for a few hours now, but I'm keeping an eye on it. I have not left my house today (I can't) but I did take a number of photos from various windows. I'll post them later. It's crazy. Things look like northern Scandinavia around here. Edited 20 hours ago by Knuckledragger 1 6

n_maher Posted 21 hours ago Report Posted 21 hours ago Looks like NH mostly dodged a bullet, well, as long as you call only 10-12” of snow dodging. A friend in RI is stuck outside the US and being told he cannot get back until Friday. He got 33” of snow at his house just south of Providence. Yikes. 1 2
skullguise Posted 19 hours ago Report Posted 19 hours ago Good amount of snow here, I actually lost power for about 1-2 minutes earlier this a.m. But all good now. I've been worried about some friends and family in harder hit areas, but thankfully no one on my list lost power. My back deck has some nice blown drifts..... 9
Knuckledragger Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago The Vineyard has sustained pretty extensive damage from the storm. Apparently over a quarter million Massholes are still without power. EDG getting it the worst. I suspect this is primarily because of Chappaquiddick being more or less 100% down. There's a flagpole by the Old Sculpin Gallery. Seen here way back in 2009: It blow'd over the night before last: Apparently, those are the power lines for all of Chappy. That means the entire island is in the dark. I suspect most of the homes there that are occupied all year have generators. Chappy is "hard mode" for Vineyard life. Every aspect of living here is more expensive and difficult. Circuit Avenue, the busiest place on island during the summer, is completely dark except for one shop. I dunno what dark entity the proprietor bribed. That's the Corbin-Norton house in the background. I still haven't actually exited my house. I'm tasked with digging a path to the driveway and a few other things. I'm really fortunate to be one of the few with power. This is the exact inverse of my experience where I lived on the mainland for 20+ years. 8
