Agreed. Unfortunately, the Framingham area is lacking in really good eateries (there are couple decent Jewish-style delis, but they're not something I'd recommend for someone coming from NYC).

Tomasso on Rt. 9 in Southborough is a nice Italian place and it also has its own market/sandwich shop (Panzano) in the same building.

Interesting. When faced with a similar situation I sent $50 of flowers with a short hand written note. In my case the 80+ yr old lady was truly reticent and I did it to help her through the self torture/pity she was heaping on herself. Her son called to thank me!
