Wild and Crazy Go Nuts!

  1. Hey everyone! My son Xavier and I have been training this year, riding hundreds of miles on the roads and the trainer, to prepare for the 2016 Tour de Cure! We hope you will support us in our efforts to help wipe out diabetes! This is my 4th year doing this ride, and Xavier's 3rd. With Xavier's new road bike this year, he wanted to push a bit further on the ride. If we meet our goals, we're going to do the 40 mile route. If we hit a combined 2900$ - representing the 29 million people living with diabetes in the U.S. - we will do a metric century! If we stretch and hit 5000$ combined, we will do our best to do the *gulp* full century ride. Xavier's page Bren…

As many of you saw, Jeff had signed up for a TdC in Virginia, as it's a cause near and dear to him. It just so happens we're having a ride in Chattanooga on May 18th, and with Jeff and other friends in mind, I was one of the first people to sign up for this one. I plan on training to do the 40 mile ride, which I think is doable in the 3-4 weeks I have, and having a good cause is worth me pushing a bit further, a bit longer than I normally do. http://main.diabetes.org/goto/BrentLawson My goals aren't quite as lofty as Jeff's, but I'm hoping to raise $500 over the weeks leading up to the ride. My work is sponsoring the event, and we have a nice little team so f…

Hi Guys, I figured I would post this to my friends here at HC. I certainly support the cause as a Type 1 Diabetic and I do not believe I will have any trouble meeting my numbers but any support for the cause means a lot to me. My Page: http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR/TourdeCure/A1WDC-DistrictofColumbiaMetroArea?px=8725939&pg=personal&fr_id=8619 Thanks, Jeff

  4. For those of you that are familiar with the area, I would love to hear some feedback. The wife and I are looking to go to San Diego for a little trip in the summer during break. A couple of days, nothing crazy. My wife loves the beach and is a stickler for staying in a "clean" area, whatever that means:palm: I was thinking Mission Bay area. Thanks for any thoughts you can share.

  7. School year ends this Friday, and my wife and I are out of here and headed to Portland OR for a week! (kids will be with grandparents, yes!). Will gladly take any recs for places to visit. My wife and I are pretty normal and basically we want to drink, eat, listen to music, and do the nature thing.

  8. The wife and I have a trip scheduled to NYC Feb. 12-15 as I don't have school that Monday. I know we are definitely going to see some Broadway show but other than that we are pretty open. Not sure yet where we are staying. Figured I would throw it out there as there is a pretty good NY contingent here.

Shades of Rodney Dangerfield. I have an opportunity to get Java programming certification starting this fall. I haven't been in a classroom for I dunno how many years. Of course, I'm less worried about the time away from yardwork and housework, and more concerned about being away from inhaling solder. I'm just finishing the never ending parts list for my Bijou. Gah! Oh well, I guess pc boards don't spoil in the back of the fridge. Actually might be fun, though. I'm in QA, so now the devs here will be less likely to try to sneak shit past me.

Well while browsing I got confirmation of the cancellation of two of the few shows that I liked. I really liked Surface and it is definitely gone. Invasion is also history. Invasion started slower but in the end I was caught up in it. I also looked at the announced new shows, and not one looks like I?d find it interesting. Shows that I will watch if I get a chance. How I Met Your Mother ? The only comedy that I currently watch. Neil Patrick Harris is fantastic as Barney. Law and order C.I. Lost Smallville On pay TV. It's cheaper to not subscribe and buy the DVD's when they are released. Weeds Deadwood I can?t remember TV ever being this crappy, ever.

Bad news, last month my employer lost the contract to import Siltech cables from Holland. Since that was all that we did I was sort of out of a job. Good news! I am moving to Pennsylvania and forming a new company (Until the incorporation is completed I won?t release the name). So instead of being an employee of the importer of Siltech cables I will be the new importer of Siltech cables. Same job, only now I can?t complain about my boss. The short-term bad news is that I am trying to start a new company, find a location for the company, find a place to live, and move from Boston all within a few short weeks. Busy doesn?t adequately describe this month.

this past year, one of the better parts of my driving schedule has been listening to wait wait dont tell me. a very well written (or performed, if it isnt rehearsed) news quiz/slight comedy npr show. part of the allure has been the voice of peter sagal and his presentation and after a few months i had a fairly decent picture of what he might look like in my head. a few minutes ago i randomly happened upon the npr website and having never seen a picture of him, i searched for him. he doesnt look like anything i had pictured =/ not that that changes my desire to listen to the show but it does put me off a tad. i want to say i feel cheated but it is just something silly. …

  16. Not a political endorsement or argument by me in any manner, just pointing out something interesting. I've just read through an great essay by my favorite author, David Foster Wallace. He's a post-modern type who's written lots of short stories, non-fiction, and one totally over the top novel called Infinite Jest. His main skill is bogging his literature down with meaningless details only to hit you with simple but seemingly revalatory facts (probably only revalatory based on the general mediocrity of what came before.) Despite that, I still love reading anything he writes. Guess I like the pain . So in 2000, Rolling Stone contacted him to join a media tour for a ca…

So, on the day that my damaged transport is picked up (yesterday) I find out that UPS has decided to play kick-ball with the beta22 that I shipped out last week. Now today I hear back about the damage claim to the transport, which of course they denied sighting "insufficient packaging" and "no damage to packaging". Oh, sweet. I guess that custom cut 2" thick foam inserts and double boxing are now deemed insufficient packaging in their mind. And the entire corner of the box crushed 1" (through both boxes) qualifies as "no damage". I hope the guy who sold this to me is a good lawyer... Now, onto the beta22 that I had professional packed. Evidently they managed to treat t…

  18. I'm planning on receiving a package from overseas. I've received packages from Europe in the past, and never been charged anything (UPS/EMS just drops it off). But I want to be certain as it's a high dollar item and will be insured (thus having its real value on the package). I thought I'd ask here before I called US Customs. Pretty sure this doesn't mean anything but we have no state sales tax. Thanks guys.

  19. Folks, I'm a non US citizen but travels to US most of the time. Since I took up photography hobby (outside the headphone), I've been exploring the national park/conservation area on every visit. Here are my thoughts in general: 1. Yosemite : Crowded. Not many good spots for hunting (photography wise). You turn your head anywhere its this Half Dome. Most of the spots are easily a within short hike except Half Dome (which I dont have the stomach to climb). Overall I'm a bit disappointed with the park. But seems to me this is the most visited park in US. The gift shop is huge. Maybe come back in winter for some awesome shot. 2. Zion : Like this one. Been there once. Lo…

  22. By Eliot Van Buskirk Published on June 17, 2009 at 8:30am Carting a crate of used CDs to your local record store so you can make rent is a rite of passage as ancient as it can be tearful. But what about those MP3s and iTunes songs you're ready to unload? Is there a way to sell those off, too, when you get tired of them or just need some extra scratch? A new crop of consumer-facing music stores is focused on helping fans resell "used" digital music the way they do CDs. But the big conundrum with digital music is that there's no way to prove sellers legally own the songs on their computers. There's also nothing to stop them from keeping the songs they're hawking. Unl…

Thread: How to exclude forums from "New Posts" - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio Link referred to above: Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio ^ This is the link toward the bottom of his opening post. According to Todd and Skylab and others, this douchey kid, who is also a member here, has scammed several people. He also went by the name Nick20. The details are here but he has Todd's TTVJ/Millett portable and other amps and never sent product on several sales. I guess the other option is that he is dead or in the hospital according to something Miguel Arroyo said, but it seems more likely he is just a prick.

  25. I could have sworn there was a thread on this, but I can't find one. We're about to replace our not-too-old Bissell vacuum. We'd like something that cleans well, vacuums up cat hair from our Olympic-class shedding specialists and doesn't require frequent repair. Anybody have a recommendation? Are the Dysons worth the price of admission? I see a Hoover on Amazon that looks pretty similar to the Bissell. http://www.amazon.co...33834391&sr=1-6 I wonder if it's riddled with semi-fatal design flaws. It's certainly cheap eoungh. The Bissell is nice, apart from not being able to get cat hair off upholstery, but the brush bar has under-specified bearings (or a…
