So I saw the thread Zanth started over at HF and thought hell, why not do our own CD/LP exchange here? I thought for a few seconds about signing up at the HF thread but I would personally much rather exchange with HC-ers over HF-ers. Luminette ran this last year so I thought I'd continue the trend this year. Anyone unfamiliar with how this works can refer to Zanth's thread at HF: Sign Up! For the 2009 Annual Head-fi Holiday Gift Exchange! - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio This participant list can be found here. The pairings are as follows: 4 50 Asr <> Torpedo 21 6 Fitz <> blessingx 11 3 Dash <> Aimless1…

  8. In a little less than a month I'm going to embark on a unique little cycling adventure. Through the course of 2 days (Sept 8 and 9th) I'll be riding a total of 100 miles through the northern part of NH with a group of truly amazing individuals. I've been working hard in preparation for this and have logged about 1,000 miles in the saddle. All of this is in support of Northeast Passage (www.nepassage.org) - NEP is a non-profit organization which provides athletic opportunities for the disabled, including golf, water skiing, hockey, rugby, etc. So if you're able I'd very much appreciate a little support, no amount is to small. There are multiple ways to make donations …

  9. So I signed up for the 2013 Tour de Cure in Orlando on March 17, 2013 and joined my local shop's team - Winter Park Cycles. Most of you guys know I love cycling and I'm a sucker for these rides/bike fests. More importantly, the Tour de Cure is a ride that benefits the American Diabetes Association. This cause is near and dear to my heart as my cousin and close friend, Angelo is a Type 1 Diabetic and I am riding for him. We grew up together and we are very close even though he's back home in the Philippines and I'm here in the USA. Anyway, I am posting here to shamelessly ask for donations. No amount is too small and every dollar matters Please click on this link…

  10. My wife was hoping to do a fundraiser sometime this year for the American Cancer Society in memory of her mom who passed away about 3 years ago. Unfortunately I knocked her up and she never had opportunity to do any major event. So I'm stepping in and using the ACS Events tool to raise money for my ride on September 21st 2014. The event is the Back Roads Century (http://www.backroadscentury.org/). It's a moderate century and not as epic as some of the other people around here have completed recently but it still should be fun and I hope you guys and gals can help me raise money for a good cause. The donation link is here: http://main.acsevents.org/goto/Chris_Kent

I've signed up again for this year's Tour de Cure on March 16. As you may already know, this is a cause that's near and dear to me as I have some friends and family who have diabetes. . That being said, I'd like to reach out to the gang once again for donations.....any amount, no matter how small is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for all the support! 12. Hello All I thought it would be fun to take the Polar Bear swim at Coney Island this year. Its been on my bucket list for a while. They are raising money for Camp Sunshine - a camp for Children with life-threatening illnesses and their families and I would appreciate it if anyone could donate some money to them through my page. https://www.crowdrise.com/AriFriedman I don't think I have told you this, but I went to camp every summer from when I was 6 weeks old (my father was the camp director) until I was 20, doing everything from filling diapers, to being a camper, working in the kitchen, being a counselor, and working on the high-ropes course. All of it wa…

  13. A very good friend of mine, Jameson, is riding in Death Ride Tour in honor of a friend who is suffering from ALS. Below is a message I received from Jameson. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello to all. This year, we are doing two fundraiser bike rides. Death Ride - a fundraiser for ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and Tour de Cure - the same diabetes fundraiser that we always do. Why Death Ride? One of my best friends has ALS. He was one of the toughest guys I knew. Five years ago, we were doing mountain centuries, and didn't think much of it. Out of nowhere, he started complaining about cramping after long…

Right here, in Grand Cayman, and less than 2 miles from my house... Ok, so I know it seems silly, but I've been living here for 13+ years and until now, there hasn't been a 24-hour anything. It took years before we finally had wholesale grocery stores, and the ones we have now are not exactly discount houses. Nearly everything in the retail world closes at 5pm, restaurants close by 9 or 10, and nothing (I mean nothing at all) is open on Sunday except about 150 churches and a couple of gas stations. As an old fart bachelor who doesn't cook (at all) and the kind of dude who stays up all night at least once per week for no particular reason, all I can say is that i…

  15. Oh dear, don't annoy the nerds, it only makes them mad .. http://people.xiph.o...neil-young.html Articles last month revealed that musician Neil Young and Apple's Steve Jobs discussed offering digital music downloads of 'uncompromised studio quality'. Much of the press and user commentary was particularly enthusiastic about the prospect of uncompressed 24 bit 192kHz downloads. 24/192 featured prominently in my own conversations with Mr. Young's group several months ago. Unfortunately, there is no point to distributing music in 24-bit/192kHz format. Its playback fidelity is slightly inferior to 16/44.1 or 16/48, and it takes up 6 times the space. There are a few re…

  20. Crazy to think that the 5th Annual Walk for Belonging is here. I joined the board of directors of Communities of Belonging just before the first walk. They have all been motivating and enriching. Originally called "Second Chance Walk" in 2022, a part of April being Second Chance Month. We rebranded the second year as Walk for Belonging (W4B) - because our charter includes homeless as well as justice impacted. 2024 Crew: 2025 smiles: The 5th Annual Walk for Belonging is back at Green Lake on the 25th of April. (I have a lot to get done in the next week). We worked hard this last year and was able to expanded …

I am heading to San Diego on Friday night for an Emergency Medicine conference. I'll be at the conference itself on Sunday afternoon but will have all of Saturday and Sunday morning for walking around/doing stuff. As of right now I have the San Diego zoo on the list. How much time should I realistically set aside for it? The hotel we are staying at is only a couple of miles away. Don't drink so don't care for any bars or clubs. Suggestions for must see attractions? Any food places to check out? Nothing terribly expensive please - I am living off of med school loans. Thanks, CJ.
