It's a story of sorts. If you like poker, you'll dig this. If not, you won't have any clue of wtf I'm talking about. You'll prolly give me a look like this: Before I start with the story, I knew tonight was going to be odd, cause a couple games before a lady got dealt Q, 10, 2, 5 in BOTH of her hands...that's astronomical odds there. Anyhow, on with the story. I was in class staying fresh till I get an audition. And the class that's in there now is learning/playing $2 Omaha 8 or better (hi-low). For those that like poker, but don't know how to play Omaha, it's Hold-em, but you get dealt 4 cards before the flop, but you can only use two cards, and HAVE TO use thr…

I'm going to build a new PC to replace my crumbling AthlonXP system, I've sorted out almost everything I'm going to go for, but I'm still having some indecision over the OS drive. Either the OCZ Core 64Gig SSD, or the Western Digital Velociraptor. I had the 74gig raptor in my primary Athlon XP system before it went unreliable and I was forced onto this crappy shuttle. The Raptor74 is so very crunchy noisy these days, I really don't want the Velociraptor to end up being that way, in spite of the claims that it is quieter than the previous raptors, and of course the SSD is silent. The rest of the PC is going to be as quiet as I can realistically achieve on an LGA775 plat…

seems a little strange to me... 1) why in the world was the B52 picked! a person can put together at least 5 just as good whole rigs for that price. 2) um... how can a person raffle off something they dont' own? 3) at it's root, ticket holders are subsidizing the purchase of an amplifier for someone else, with little potential profit going to the charity. 4) Ray is getting to sell a 5K amp at full price, making more profit than any other party in this deal.

So, went out for a "thinking" walk this morning and as I look up to the sky... saw not one, but two (out of the 21 total) B-2 bombers flying over Bethesda. Pretty impressive, and cool. It is not everyday one sees $4.2 billion flying being operated by a grand total of 4 people. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-2_Spirit

I want to convert a fair amount of Euros in a EU bank account to my US banks. This was money earned from work, and EU income tax has already been paid on it. Are there any issues/complications I should be aware of when transfering it back stateside? Any tax issues with the US? I'm going to contact our hospital's financial adviser next week, but thought I'd ask here.

Well, the wife came to me this morning and tells me she wants to start an online business. Needless to say I know next to nothing about getting started, whats' involved and most importantly how much money this is gonna cost me to put together for her. Wonder if anyone here has experience with such a thing and can give me any advice?

Happy 21st birthday to my daughter Zoë! I know I've known a lot of you since she was around 2-3 years old, and somehow she made it through to adulthood. Here she is at her birthday dinner with her future MIL, having her first legal drink! (And one of the very few she's ever had.) I'm really proud of her, and she had a good day. Her past two birthdays have been bad (tested positive for COVID in 2021 during her fall break an hour before she was leaving for the airport to fly home, and her now fiancee (Michael, above) had just driven home to CO, so she wound up in AZ all alone on her first birthday away from home. Today? Today started a new …

It feels like ages since I've last been back here. Seems like much has happened during my absence. Smeggy started making headphones and became a MOT, and a bunch of new companies emerged, Schit, Audeze, etc. My last purchase was a Pico DAC/amp and it has served me well all these years. Earlier, I was chatting with someone and he was raving about how his friend just got a LCD2 and was driving it with a Little Dot amp; is this the new hype right now? At least Nate is still rocking his breastfeeding avatar! I noticed that I cannot view member profiles, so there must be some kind of restriction put on my account. I'm not here to ruffle old-man grawk's feathers (with …

So I played in a free poker tournament in NYC tonight hosted by partypoker.com or something, in Times Square. It was a pretty cool event actually, with free open bar and free food as well. There were about 200 people in the tournament. The good news is that I finished in 7th place. The bad news is that when I was at the final table, my nice coat was stolen off the back of my chair when I was standing up during an all-in The kicker is that while I was looking for my jacket, my 7th place prize (a set of nice poker chips in an aluminum case) was stolen from the tournament organizers. They said they'd mail me the prize - I really hope they follow up on that. Bas…

this past year, one of the better parts of my driving schedule has been listening to wait wait dont tell me. a very well written (or performed, if it isnt rehearsed) news quiz/slight comedy npr show. part of the allure has been the voice of peter sagal and his presentation and after a few months i had a fairly decent picture of what he might look like in my head. a few minutes ago i randomly happened upon the npr website and having never seen a picture of him, i searched for him. he doesnt look like anything i had pictured =/ not that that changes my desire to listen to the show but it does put me off a tad. i want to say i feel cheated but it is just something silly. …
