Wild and Crazy Go Nuts!

  1. Started by oldshoe,

I see in the forum rules that there are no "profane" posts allowed, but then I saw elsewhere where one or more members said "Fuck this, or fuck that - I'll do as I goddamn well please", words to that effect. So would that be a violation of the rules? If this was a legitimate site then it probably would be a violation, yes? The only reason I ask is because a friend of mine, Bob Fletcher, had his company taken over by the CIA so it was no longer legitimate and there was a lot of profanity.

Considering our hobby, I have to presume I'm not the only one that's sucked in by simple genius. This is a dumping ground for unique inventions that are underappreciated for what they are; they've become commonplace, obsolete or quite simply, frivolous! A few of my faves: The ZIPPO Lighter Simple in its mechanics, tank-like in construction, plus it makes fire. Fire good. I've been a Zippo fanatic since I was a kid. Incidentally, a more controlled flame (like a Bic) is probably the better choice for lighting firecrackers. The Rolling Machine Ok, seriously, this one is so damned simple I almost can't believe it ended up getting invented. …

You were wishing you had some whisky choices matching your advanced age, so here are some to dream about [and may find in Mikey's garage the next time you are out this way]. One from your birth year, and one that was matured as long as you have been Nom Nom Nom. Have a great one and go find some old whisky! Cheers!

  8. This is Zachary's Amp. And this is Zachary (with his dad Kristopher). Zachary was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) on March 23, 2007. This is a relatively rare form of cancer, affecting around 4000 Americans each year. Zachary and his family have been battling this disease for almost 4 years and it has taken a physical, mental and financial toll on the family. So how do I fit into this equation? I've known Zach's dad for something like 8 to 10 years, he works for one of my former company's biggest clients and while working together on a few projects we discovered that we shared a lot of common interests. We ended up being members …

It could be argued that one of the root causes of the current problem was "faulty" risk analysis. Whether the risk analysis was faulty by design or intent is left as an exercise for the reader. The following post from comp.risks is posted verbatim as it seems to be so on topic - and apolitical. ***** A lot of the comments in RISKS-25.34 seem to imply that the people running the financial firms were stupid and/or careless in not doing a correct risk analysis. These people are not stupid or careless, merely greedy, unscrupulous and irresponsible. They did a careful risk analysis all right, and then made the decision to deliberately feed false information i…

  10. Alright, so my short backstory: I was in the market for a new, not terribly expensive wallet when I turned first to Amazon, my default search site for stuff. Nothing really caught my eye, especially when price was factored in, so I did a google search for a top quality leather wallet. In a forum I saw a suggestion for a website called saddlebackleather.com I checked the place out and immediately saw their tagline "They'll fight over it when you're dead." Oh, humor, I like that. So I went wandering around the site just to see policies, FAQ, and all that. Needless to say, the owner has quite a story, and his approach to customer service is funny as hell. …

So I picked up a Pre last Friday and I've been using it pretty heavily since then. The screen is very nice, on par with the iPhone's I'd say (the iphones being a glass touchscreen does get the edge in scratch resistance). The interface is really intuitive and done very well. The little "gesture" area below the screen fits in with the overall interface quite well and it works flawlessly. It's also hard to overstate how nice it is to finally have true multi-tasking on a smartphone. I often find myself having the Pandora app streaming in the background while texting or sending e-mails. Of course there is also the keyboard to talk about, I'm one of those people that r…

Basically, the oldest/most famous Japanese rock band X Japan (or X) that has ever existed had reunited on 10/22/07. The leader of the band has organized it so that overseas fans can buy a "package" with the plane ticket, hotel booked, everything set, or enter a lottery where random selected winners will be allowed to buy tickets. I've been listening to these guys for a long time and this is a perfect oppotunity since it is during Spring Break. When I started to register the form... I am talking about a band performing in Tokyo Dome 3 days in a row.. with 50,000 fans per day and a great deal. All I need to pay is around $1500USD for a package with a booked hotel, round…

Let me introduce myself...my name is gauche (nee ronin74). Would y'all mind if I join the adult table, I promise not to eat too much or touch any of JP's stuff. I hear you can spit and cuss over here, so where the fuck are the ads?
