Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. Started by mzisman4,

Up until about 30 minutes ago, I was set on picking up a pair of Denon AH-D2000 (based on head-fi reviews). But after reading 10+ pages of reasons not to get them I am back at square one. I have never purchased a pair of 'high end' headphones and unfortunately, have no means of demoing them. Therefore I am relying on your opinons and experiences to make up my mind. I do not have an amp but am planning to pick up an ibasso boa when I save up enough cash. I currently have about $300 but would like to set aside about $75 to start an 'amp savings'. I will however, dig into that if needed to get a better pair of cans. The only headphones I know are in this range are the…

What part of the headband do you think this replaces? Audio Cubes II - High Fidelity Audio Products Does it replace the thing with the hole in it in this picture>?

  3. Started by Voltron,

I can't believe I am starting one of these threads, but I am trying to help somebody find a $100 IEM and all I have is Innerfidelity as a guide. They do not have many new reviews and the wall of fame entries are at least a year old. Anything to add, Head-Case?

Does anyone know where to purchase a replacement elastic band for the Stax 007? Ideally same brown color. I have a larger head and the stock elastic is too tight, ideally would be great to have a looser fit. The rest of the fit is Ok the earcups seals pretty good but not as good as my 009. 5. Okay, so here's the deal: My father has agreed to pay for headphones for me if I find ones I deem suitable. I'm looking for a minimum frequency response of 5 - 35K Hz, Closed, preferably circum-aural. At the moment the only ones that I've come across that look any good are Audio-Technica ATH-A1000, Audio-Technica ATH-A900, and Sony MDRD777SL ... I know that the Beyer DT770's sound good, but my ex who I'm friends with has those and it would be copying, and in the spirit of competition I'd like to see if I can do better than those... I've heard wonderful things about this site being blunt and to the point when it comes to it. Please help me get the best I can get. Th…

  6. Why not combine the two? Not particularly useful. sounds about the same as the silicone, but a whole lot more comfortable, and a bit less isolating. That is all.

  7. Started by TheSloth,

Ok, so I apparently have more spare change than sense and ordered a pair of these. Couldn't resist the curiosity. These aren't really burned in yet (only a few hours on them), but they really are surprisingly good. They look and feel like earbus, and sound something akin to a real pair of headphones. Unlike earbuds they seem to do extended bass. At the moment they sound a bit 'plasticky' and nasal in the midrange (as if you took an open headphone and then covered the backs), and I wonder how they will relax with proper burn-in. They are extremely hard to drive - I find myself using a similar volume setting on my amp to my 650's, which makes them even harder to drive…

  9. Started by jinp6301,

When I went to bozebuttons's house for a mini-meet, I got to spend a lot of time with the high end grados (the vintage RS-1 and the HP-1/2/3 especially) and I realized that the 225s doesn't have the sound that I want nor can it scale the same way that the other two phones can. So, I'm trying to get less shrill treble, a more fuller sound (esp in the low end) with better extension in the lows and a slightly bigger soundstage that keeps the grado sound. Does that sound like the MS-2i's? PS. and my 225s are woodied, which does fix the problem (with the bass and the soundstage) a small amount but not enough to my liking.

Has anyone heard/bought the final version? Was it worth the wait? How does it fare against the competition?

Got my Fidelio L1 today, and after 30 mins of listening, I like it a lot so far. Of course, I have to burn it in for 10 weeks and change the cable to baby unicorn hair, but so far so good.

  13. Hast du was jetzt gemacht?

  14. I'm absolutely interested in this thing. Comments? Predictions? Impressions? Guesses? Some people think it looks comical; I think it looks like one of the best looking headphones ever created. I seriously want one.

Anyone heard these things? I have some 9's, which even with all their coloration and funky bass, can sound good at times (with my EAR HP4 or Raptor). I put in a bid on an auction not thinking I would have a chance to win, and now I may.

Introduction A headphone review! I haven't had a new pair of cans in a while, but these were on sale during Black Friday – I paid a little over $100 for them. I've been looking for an inexpensive set of open headphones like my old Sennheiser HD 320: https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/sennheiser-hd-320.21653/reviews The first thing to mention is that you get 2 sets of cables in the box, the longer 10 ft. cable (attached to the left ear cup) with a 1/4" jack and a shorter 4 ft. cable with a 1/8" jack as well as a 1/4" female to 1/8" male jack adapter. The HD 599 SE ships in a plain cardboard box, as it is an Amazon special with a 2-year warranty. Immediate…

  17. Started by Ben Gramain,

Probably a question asked many times, but I'll ask it again. My HD650 is toast. I need a new pair of dynamics. And I'm far too profligate for $350 phones. What has a decent chance of being released that doesn't sound like ass (even if you owned it, useless meet impressions notwithstanding)?

  18. Started by mapstec,

I just snagged myself an Electret combo of Sennheiser Unipolar 2002 / HER 2000. They sound pretty good, but sadly they are imbalanced (left needs about one third boost...). I took the headphones apart, but could not find any problem, but I wonder about the control box. Does anyone have any technical information on the control box HER2000? Or does anyone know if the speakers can be run any other way, without the control box or with an adaptor to a Stax amp / energiser?

  20. Started by Wmcmanus,

But since it's my birthday, maybe someone can help without whipping me for being so stupid and lazy... "Hey Wayne. Can you recommend a set of in-ear monitor for my motorcycle helmet communication system in the $200 ballpark. I’m not listening to music on them; purely for Atom use for driver <-> passenger communication, and the occasional phone call. I’m looking for something that I can comfortably wear inside a helmet for hours at a time. Thanks. Nick. PS. How are you, I haven’t heard from you in a while." Seems to me that he's looking for custom IEMs on the lowest end of the food chain. Some…

Well, it seems AKG has updated some of their mid-level phones. I just bought my K271 couple of months ago, too. http://www.akg.com/site/press_center/powerslave,id,152,nodeid,0,_language,EN,nodeid,33.html

in one month only :'( should I send it back to Grado??

  24. Started by dsavitsk,

Guys, I may be in the market for some headphones. Knowing next to nothing about what's out there, I could use suggestions. Basically, I own two sets of phones. Etymotic 4p's that I bought in 2001 or 2002, and RS-1's I bought in 2003. I use the ety's when I am on airplanes, and that's about it. They are kind of OK, but the banging cord is too annoying. I love the RS-1's -- enough that I haven't really thought about buying anything else for almost 6 years. But, I need some office phones. I am looking for $200 or less. Used is fine but they need to be findable quickly. Open is OK, but the Grados probably leak too much sound. Other things -- punchy (Grado-esque) bass …

  25. Started by Dthomps12,

I was originally thinking about getting the hd 558, 598, or the 595, but they are open ear and aren't very portable. I'm looking for: folding, around ear, closed, 200$ or less, and preferably decent bass. That might be a lot of specifics but I need help finding the right headphones. Any ideas? Thank you! Dylan
