Ignoring the suggested retail prices, and the headphones selected... I found it interesting to see the trend in HeadRoom's updated "Ultimate Head Phone" guide. I seem to remember that it used to contain some bargain contenders.... but as $1000 becomes the norm for "flag ships" I see that they only slip two or three choices under the 1k mark now, and the bulk of the pack heading north of $1200. http://www.headphone.com/selection-guide/top-picks/ultimate-headphones.php

Whitney's got my LCD3s right now and they are slated to go to Christian next week. I put Frank on the list because I know he is interested (he hasn't gotten back to me). Let me know if anyone in the Bay Area wants to borrow them for a week. Maybe a couple more slots - I'm not itching to get them back soon or anything. I would prefer that they be picked-up or dropped-off rather than mailed. I figure this would be a good way for folks to hear the most perfect headphones evar! I'm trying to help a friend of mine out who is new to the head-fi world. Heh, yes, I've already warned him with a laugh about his wallet but we'll keep this clean for now. I'm a bit out of the loop so I need some help to help him. So far the cans he's looked at are: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-518-Headphones-Black/dp/B0042A68R8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1327888696&sr=1-1 http://www.amazon.com/Shure-SRH750-DJ-Headphones-Black/dp/B002PAQYK8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327888558&sr=8-1 http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-280-Pro-Headphones/dp/B000065BPB/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_1 http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD25-1-II-Cl…

No doubt there will be plenty of announcements at CES 2012 of interest to us, so I thought I'd start a thread to keep track of the headphones announced at the show . Who knows, maybe we can encourage Tyll, or other visitors to get a closer look for us. I'll start off with something interesting (thanks to google translate) Sennheiser introduces the high-end HD 700 Headphones google webcache of (pulled) B&H had it priced @ $999.95

Great review of these closed headphones, Tyll. I was looking for exactly this kind of can for years, but I ended up with the Alessandro MS-1 (no regrets) because of the compromises in various products. There are so many posts asking (with different wordings): "what is the best closed portable headphone for me?" online, including this forum. Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, AKG, Beyerdynamic, etc. (this is before Shure and Denon came out with their new cans) all failed to meet my standards when I was shopping around. I wasn't a fan of IEMs (many people have an aversion to this style of headphone), although I did get a pair of Klipsch S4i for my iPod Shuffle 3G this Spring. T…

I've just been through about 2 days of searching high and low for a pair of nice headphones, i'm seeing sparkles around my head right now due to the HUGE amount of infos all over the net and the Vast numbers of reviews leaning either way on pretty much every single pair of cans I look at... Hence posting here is like a cry for help, last resort kind of thing for me. Would really appreciate any suggestions/opinions/directions you could offer! I'll get right into what I'm looking for: Used for: Mostly on the Computer (Music, Movies and Gaming) as well as PS3 gaming, maybe ipod(at home) Main use is at home, so portability is not an issue. I have the ME2i for my on th…

Ok, so I had a pair of Koss UR-40 headphones and broke them. Now I am in the market for a new pair. I am not a big audiophile but I do like what I am listening to to sound good. I have a larger head (mainly in the width) as well as medium to larger size ears. I like my headphones to completely surround my ears. Anything sitting directly on my ears tends to become uncomfortable after a little while. I am also looking for something lightweight. I don't really want to notice them on my head. The headphones will be used primarily for listening to music on my PC with occasional use on my phone for mp3 playback. I listen to a range of music from classical to heavy me…

Hi all, I should buy a pair of in-ear headphones, High-end (120 to 200 €) for my good old creative zen x-fi 16GB. Whereas I usually listento classical music, jazz, old rock and healthy, in essence, I need some earphones quite linear, and not the usual unbalanced bass! the choice is between these: Sony MDR EX600 Sony MDR EX-700 HiFiMan RE-262 Shure SE315 What I need is a justified comparison between the selected models. Thanks to all

I have a friend who asked me a headphone question that I couldn't answer. He has a pair of Ety ER4P and recently got shocked in the ear while wearing them (he was walking and was wearing a fleece if that is relevant). I haven't ever experienced this myself. Is this not abnormal or should he contact Etymotic about it? Sounds painful.

Folks, been searching high and low for review of this headphone but couldn't find an extensive review on it. All the infos are scattered here and there. One impression I found at HF during Dutch meet was some folks prefer this than HE60, did any of you agree with this statement? All the statements I found also said that this is an entirely different can than 404 Sig in a good/better way. Another question, this can is 1000 limited production with a price point not far from HF2 (was offered around $600 new), why is it still relatively available ? I mean its not that difficult to find new unlike HF2 which sold out already. Is it because its a stats thus not many peo…

Gu Sensei's post of measurements of the SR-009s from a Japanese Stax thread raised some interesting discussion. While the measurements he posted are interesting as a conversation piece, there are questions about the quality of the data and methodology of the testing. The measurements are not nearly as useful as the type of through headphone measurements that our very own Tyll Hertsens has been making and posing over on the Inner Fidelity site. In the want for more objective data on stats, Tyll has graciously agreed to measure electrostats if we can send them out to him in Montana. The plan will be to coordinate people sending in their gear so that Tyll can measure…

I searched for the best and pretty bass heavy headphones under $200. I narrowed down my search to: Denon AH-D1100 and D2000(I have somewhere to buy it for $200) Ultrasone 580 and 780 V-Moda Crossfades LP I want to know which one is best for: DnB Dubstep Techno Rock/Metal Rap I want a bass close to overpowering but not overpowering. A nice soundstage is nice too. I also need an amp and DAC or amp alone for less than $120,recommendations? It has to include a bass boost(the MoaR the better.)

The right driver in my HD650s is loose. If I wiggle the headphones around I can feel and hear it jiggling. Sometimes the cable gets a little disconnected and the music cuts out. It's starting to get annoying. I've never done anything DIY in audio, but I'm willing to try something to fix this. Any advice? Also, not sure if this should go in a different thread? Thanks all.

Hey, Yesterday I bought Shure SRH - 440 headphones. I read somewhere that with the SRH840 pads the headphones are more comfortable and the sound is better. Would you recommend to replace the ear pads to the SRH840 ones or the SRH940 one ? Which one of the pads is better ? more comfortable and better sound quality ? Thank you, Noam

Dear All, I love to listen to music, like all of us, for a few years now I have Audio Note E boxes and 2A3 PSE amp. Love the detailed, but still relaxing sound of it. A good balance between details and sweetness. With other words, I like the sound of an Audiolab 8000A, but can not listen to it for more than like 30 minutes. Also like the sound of the 300B tubes, but too sweet for me, hide details. Recently, I can not listen too much to speakers, I must use headphones. I have an old Sennheiser HD 565 ovation, what I have tried to change sometimes, but I could not. I have tried HD600, I liked the bass (the 565 weakness), but also the soundstage got more narrow, at the mid…

Hello there, My old headphones (Gamecom Plantronics 367) just broke after about a year of usage and they vere amazing considering the price (25£ with postage), but now I need some new ones. I have a budget of about 100£ in total, since I'm a student so money is hard to come by (I'm gonna have to go without lunch for about a month to afford this, but it's worth it.. I haven't had music in months) So my question is, what should I get? Here are my priorities in order: #1 sound quality. If I can get some with better sound than the Gamecom ones I had, I will be in heaven. #2 durability. I really want them to not.. you know.. break easily. I bring my headphones with me at…

So it's time for me to build a new home rig. I haven't been keeping up with the new stuff much. I stopped looking at gear around when the HD800 was FotM. I've been enjoying my ES3X for quite some time now but have been missing having proper cans. My budget is around $3k for cans and an amp. I might be able to stretch it to $4k, but would really prefer to keep it down. I will probably be building a DAC over the winter/spring. DIY isn't out of the question as I'm not in a RUSH to have a setup. (sooner the better though ) I will mostly listen to classical and folk when it's not just background noise. So as far as options I was thinking of these: HD800 or…
